Happy Memorial Day

The Little Houdini

This Little Bird does not sleep well unless she is securely swaddled. Unfortunately, she is a great escape artist. She starts out nice and cozy but some how one arm creeps out.

Then the other.

At this point, her arms (with minds of their own) wiggling around have usually woken her up. But once in awhile she stays asleep until she has completely come unwrapped. Then she is definitely awake for the duration.

Frequently, her legs are the cause of the loosened blanket. She gets them pushing and loosens it up enough for the escape. But if her legs are bent up in the swaddle, she doesn't sleep either. In this warmer weather it seems toasty to keep her swaddled up, but nothing else seems to work. So if anyone has any great ideas about how to teach her to sleep without being swaddled, we are up for ideas. In the meantime, we just keep swaddling and admiring her cuteness.

One Month

It is hard to believe that our little bird is a month old. Wow, time flies when you are having fun and getting less sleep than normal. She is really quite a good little thing. At night she wakes up to eat and then goes right back to sleep. During the day she eats about every three hours but the sleeping is unpredictable. Sometimes she just wants to stay awake and sometimes she will sleep for awhile. She is so alert sometimes. She is not sure how much she likes her swing--sometimes it is great, others "get me outta here." She is starting to make some cooing sounds and always lets us know when she is unhappy with her little grunts.

She is getting so big that her newborn onsies are just about too small. It is also about time to move on to the next diaper size. But it seems like such a big jump up in sizes (newborn to small, #1 looks huge on her).

She also got to go for her one month doctor visit. She weighs ten pounds exactly and is 22 inches long. All systems are functioning well. And she got her second hep B vaccine.The shot was done and she didn't know what to think.

During the day we spend some time playing on the floor. She does great on her tummy. Her neck is getting stronger every day. Sadie and Sylvester want to join in playing with her toys, but they have been very good. (more on them in a future post) We love her so much and are glad she is ours.

Mother's Day at Church

Today, on Mother's Day, was Little Bird's first day at church. She  got all dressed up and was looking cute with her little headband. She did great and slept most of the time. We sat in the hall during Sunday School and during Relief Society she ate and was back to sleep. She likes to stay awake at home and sleep on the few outings she has been on.

A Busy Start

Our little bird has been busy. She has got to spend lots of cuddly time with her grandmas when they came to visit over the past couple weeks. It was so nice to have them here. She also got to take her first bath and did great. She wasn't quite sure what to think of it but didn't cry (mostly looked surprised.)

 She has also been for several walks--including one to Highland Park to check out the flowers and lilacs. She seems to like rides in the stroller, even around our neighborhood sidewalks with all their bumps.

She is keeping us very busy and we are all pretty tired from the odd hours. Even Sadie and Sylvester are wiped out. But we sure are glad to have her in the family, even if that means no more sleeping in.
