Getting to Know the Christmas Me

I got this by email today. It's one of those things where you fill in the blanks about yourself only it's Christmas questions. I thought I might as well share these with the entire world.

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Paper of course, I love love love to wrap presents. Bags are like the easy way out.
2. Real tree or Artificial? Well we have an artificial tree but I miss real ones especially the big bushy ones we had growing up. But you don’t have to water the artificial kind.
3. When do you put up the tree? This year it was November 18th. I like it up early so I can look at it all month long
4. When do you take the tree down? After New Years but this year it may have to come down earlier to make more room, it’s a really big tree.
5. Do you like egg nog? There is something morally wrong with drinking eggs
6. Favorite gift received as a child? My Monchichi and many Barbies
7. Do you have a nativity scene? Yes that I painted with my own two hands
8. Hardest person to buy for? Hands down my dad
9. Easiest person to buy for? Kent, I start listening for hints months ahead of time
10. Mail or email Christmas cards? Mail, who emails a Christmas card?
11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? I can’t think of the worst, maybe something my grandma gave me
12. Favorite Christmas Movie? Christmas Story of course! You’ll shoot your eye out kid!
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Not that I can think of.
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Santa Claus cookies, fudge and peanut butter candy
16. Clear lights or colored on the tree? Colored, clear lacks creativity
17. Favorite Christmas song? Oh Holy Night by Josh Groban
18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Travel, don’t even get me started on this one, I’m hoping for a snow storm
19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeers? Heck ya want to hear me? Ok, maybe later
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? Christmas morning and it kills me to wait that long
22. Most annoying thing about this time of year? Traffic!
23. Favorite ornament theme or color? Theme? Huh? What kind of question is this?
24. Favorite for Christmas dinner? Ham and funeral potatoes
25. What do you want for Christmas this year? World Peace and a diamond as big as my head!

Merry Christmas, Here's Your Infection

It's that time of year. Time for caroling? No. Time for egg nog? No. Time for mistletoe? No. Time for the viral infection! As if the ear infection wasn't bad enough, Kent got a cold. Then, just as I was about to take my last antibiotic I catch Kent's cold. This morning at 5:30 I was awakened by the lovely sound of Kent throwing up in the bathroom. He seems to have caught the flu. Neither of us ever found the time to get our flu shot this year. In years past we have been able to get them at work but this year neither place was able to offer them because the health department made this rule that you have to have at least 100 people getting the shot. So this year we went without and I am really hoping I am not next. Poor Kent. He was really in bad shape. I hope this is a fast mover and he is better soon.

On the plus side, today Kent told me it is really starting to feel like Christmas! I am such a kid at Christmas. I can't wait. Last year I woke up at 6:00am and made Kent go open presents. The only difference between me then and now is that I am more excited to give the presents and see the look on other people's faces when they open what I have picked out for them. I have gotten Kent two presents that I hope will really surpise him. His mom also said she has a really good one for him too. I am so excited! I hope I make it until Christmas without caving in and making him open one.

A Great Friday Night Date

This Friday night we decided that a good date would be to go to Instacare! You see, after 2 weeks of constant headaches I couldn't take it anymore so I made Kent take me in to Instacare. I was a little afraid because I have only heard horror stories of the place, about the long long waits, and all of the strange people that go there. It really wasn't all that bad. Apparently not a lot of people have caught on to this hip date spot. There was only one person in line before me. We were in and out of there in no time at all. Turns out I had an ear infection and some really messed up sinus'. So I was given antibiotics and told to take my Flonaise and decongestants. Today I am finally starting to feel better. My head doesn't buzz anymore. Next time I don't think I will wait quite so long before giving in and going to the doctor.

A Rose By Any Other Name

So I'm sitting on the phone at work on Friday morning around 10:30 and I look up and there stands my husband with a rose. Is it my birthday? Our anniversary? No, there was absolutely no reason for him to be there. He earned some serious love points for this I tell you!


I know that all of you are sitting on pins and needles waiting to see how my Christmas Tree turned out. Well wait no more! I give you the Campbell Family Tree 2007 in all of it's 9 foot glory!

Snow!

So it's here, the first snow of winter. I usually hate snow but it was a little pretty and as I sat in my office looking out the window I wondered what my house looked like in the snow and I was a little sad I wasn't there to see it.

So for those who are anxiously awaiting my Black Friday report I have some very sad news. It was a total bust! There was not one thing in all those ads that could drag my sorry butt out of bed at 3:00am (yes 3:00 because stores have decided that 4:00am is an acceptable time to start a sale). I woke up at about 7:00 and was out of the house at 7:30. I went to Michael's because they had 25% off of everything. I picked up a couple of things and moved on to other stores but didn't find one thing to spend my money on. So I missed out on all of the pushing and shoving and the heart pounding excitement as you race to find that one thing you're there for. A very sad year.

I am a huge fan of the Muppets and I just came across this on youtube and it totally cracked me up. I hadn't seen it before. So I had to share. You'll have to pause the music down at the bottom.

Things I Am Thankful For

I am thankful for the internet - without it you wouldn't be reading this. Also, without it I would have to go all the way to the store to buy a new CD. Instead I can just download them from iTunes.

I am thankful for the long fall - The woman at Anderson Seed told us it was too late to plant grass. Well, the little green fuzz all over our lawn begs to differ.

I am thankful for a job where I can take a few moments to blog. (shhhh don't tell anyone)

I am thankful for the flawless way the Christmas lights went on to the tree. Yes, they are on there and they may not look too professional but my husband and I are still married and still like each other.

I am thankful for cake - mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm cake

I am thankful for Weight Watchers - I may not look like it now but really where would I be without them? After all, I'm thankful for cake! Something has to get rid of it once I have ingested it!

I am thankful for my family - without them the holidays would be stress free and then I would feel like an outcast because who really has stress free holidays?

I am thankful for my friends - hopefully they never all get in a room at one time and swap stories about me. Or tell each other what I've said about them ;)

And lastly I am thankful for Kent - because without him I wouldn't have anyone to cook for, clean up after and snuggle up to late at night.

A Jump on Christmas

So we decided that yesterday was the day to put up the Christmas Tree. Yes, it's a little early but as Kent pointed out yesterday, it may take us three weeks just to get the thing up. This year we bought a new fake tree. It was sort of an impulse buy. We went into Anderson Seed to buy grass seed and came out with seed and a tree. What can I say? It was on clearance for 60% off! So, yesterday we pulled out the box and after about and hour and a half of work we had the tree up. Kent noted that maybe a real tree isn't such a bad idea after all, their branches come already fluffed up. Kent was a great help. While I was high on the ladder he was kind enough to poke me in the butt. Not sure what he was thinking, we haven't gotten our life insurance policies yet so if I were to fall off that ladder and die he would get nothing and he'd have to take the tree down alone.

The next step is the lights. We haven't gotten that far yet but I am a little worried about it. I remember growing up, every year my parents got in a fight about the lights. Kent said that after a certain point the lights in his house were just given over to one person to do just to keep peace in the family. We weren't smart enough (actually it's because we are cheap) to buy a pre-lit tree. We figured it really couldn't be that hard to put lights on the tree. However, our eyes were a bit bigger than our living room and the tree is 9 feet all. It's a little big. I know that half of the tree will have an abundance of lights and then the other half will be really sparce. It is so hard to get them all even and this tree is really tall!

So hopefully this early start will asure that by Christmas Day will have gotten most of it decorated.

Black Friday!

It's coming everyone!



One thing that is true about me is I love to shop! But I am not the type of person who would ever, EVER, pay full price for anything. So to me, Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving), is almost a holiday in itself. It's the only day of the year I will ever get up before 7. I get so worked up and excited that I probably get about 3 hours of sleep before the alarm goes of at 4:00am. The funny thing about this year is I don't think I even need anything from the sales. I already have my Christmas list mostly checked off, but I have to go! What if I missed a great bargain?! And of course Kent has to get his flashlights. I am very lucky that Kent also loves Black Friday. My love for the bargain has rubbed off. He used to pay full price but I have converted him to my side.

I think that all humans have the hunter/gather in them. For me, shopping is like hunting. I search and search until I find that great deal. Then I come home with great pride and brag to everyone how little I spent. You also need patience. One cannot expect to go into a store like Ross, Kohl's, or TJ Maxx without having at least an hour to spend. You aren't going to find that great deal by just walking in and walking out. Then there are they yard sales... Kent and I can spend every Saturday each summer going to yard sales and only find a few great deals. But we feel the urge to go because what if we miss some fantastic find. This summer we found a few. Come over sometime and I can take you on the bargain tour of our house.

The End of Kentikah

Well Kentikah has come to a close and I think I speak for both Kent and myself when I say that this was a great holiday. On Saturday we had lunch with the Campbell family where Kent was spoiled rotten. He wanted black tie mousse cake from the Olive Garden. I must admit, it was very tastey. He had a bit of help blowing out the candles which made him a bit nervous because small children are prone to spitting on the cake. It came off without a hitch even if Mary Jean only had gigantic candles. We took his grandma back to her place because she had some pictures for me and she gave me some great stuff! She actually had an envelope that had been sent to her from Ron and Mary Jean while they were in Kenya. Inside were a few pictures and negatives with pictures of Kent and Rob. I've scanned them in but I am going to take them in and get prints. Kent's second Kentikah present was Star Trek The Undiscovered Country on DVD. It's his favorite movie. Hopefully I can bypass ever having to watch it.


Sunday was a very lazy last day of Kentikah. He opened his last Kentikah present. It was a small AM/FM radio that he can carry around to listen to Dr. Laura on. I figure if he can listen to it on his lunch hour then I won't have to listen to it other days of the week.

Happy First Day of Kentikah!

Happy first day of Kentikah to one and all! We had a great day today. We got up waaaaaaaay too early and went into town for breakfast (now that we live in Nibley we are people who "go into town"). Then we decided to go south and see Camille, Sam, and Jonah. It was a fun visit. It was good to see them. It had been over a month since we had seen them. Those boys grow up so fast. Sam is learning so many words and Jonah really wants to walk. Probably so he can get away from Sam, who had just moments before we got there clocked Jonah a good one upside the head with a piece of railroad track. After that we went shopping at Target hoping to find some great Halloween clearance and we didn't find a dang thing! Then we went to eat a burrito place that was maybe a 6.5 on a 1-10 scale. Kent and I are in search of the perfect burrito. So far the best we have found are at a place in Salt Lake called Lone Star. Another great burrito was found at a place in San Jose CA named La Victoria. Needless to say we don't get to that place often enough. But I digress, back to Kentikah. After lunch we came back to Cache Valley and we had invited Jason and Craig over for birthday dinner. It was nice to see them even if we did have to kick them out because we were too old and too tired! It was a long day!
