Thankful

I am thinking of all the many things I am thankful for.  There are so many!  We are so blessed.  It's nice to have Blake home for awhile.  It was really nice to have him home on friday.  I didn't feel good and he took care of the kids and dinner.  It was wonderful!

This year Cambrie and I started something new.  I definately think it will become a new tradition.  We had a thankful wall.  The idea was for us to write something we are thankful for each day on a leaf and hang it up.  We didn't do everyday some were just too busy.  It was nice to think about each day.  Cambrie loved telling people about her thankful wall.  Some of her things were: preschool, rocks outside, daddy coming home, zane. her dolls.  It was fun to see what she came up with.  It's kind of hard to think of something new each day!

I am especially grateful for my little family.  I love being a mom.  It truly is an experience.  The best and hardest job I have every wanted.

Family Pictures

We braved the weather on the first snow storm of the season and got our pictures taken.  It was sooo cold.  We hadnn't planned on it snowing.  I was really looking forward to the pretty fall leaves.  Emily took them for us.  She is wonderful to come out in the 30 degree breezy, slightly snowy weather.  We didn't get a lot, the kids were just not into it.  But I like these!  Its nice to have new family pictures.

I'm in trouble!

Last night in the car I had a very interesting conversation.  It went like this:
Me: What should you wear tomorrow?  I think you could wear your cute blue dress.
C:  I don't want to. I want to wear pants and a shirt.
Me: How about your polka dot pants?

Okay here it is, the kicker.
C:  Stop making my decisions for me!  I can do it myself!  I am big enough!

She is only 3!  Oh, the fun things I have to look forward to.

{My Stars}

I had the priveledge of watching two of the finest dancers tonight. I even got to dance with them!  We twisted and turned and tried all the fancy moves.  It was a lot of fun.
Cambrie, Zane and I, had Dancing with the Stars on. I think our moves were more technical :)  I loved that at the end of a preformance Zane and Cambrie would stop, look at the t.v. and clap.
It was a good night!

It's long, but read it anyway...please.

A girl's father is the first man in her life, and probably the most influential. –David Jeremiah

A boy, by the age of three years, senses that his destiny is to be a man, so he watches his father.—Some Researcher…can’t remember his name…Google it

A co-worker who I greatly admire has these two quotes posted on the wall above his desk. They serve as subtle reminders to himself of his responsibilities as a father and each time I read them, they do the same for me.

While I am very concerned for the well being of my little girl—who by all indications will grow up to be a beautiful “princess” who turns plenty of heads and breaks her share of hearts—it’s not her I worry about so much; it’s the boys who’ll ride up to her on their black horses disguised as white. Zane falls into this category as I know one day he will cross paths with the daughter of some other poor father who shares the same fears that I do. That is why I try to do the best I can to make sure his horse will need no white coloring.

The beginning of these fears reared their head the other day when I was out with Cambrie. We were in a store when she stopped dead in her tracks, looked at me and said, “Daddy, I need to go potty.” So I did what I normally do; curse the fact that I have to enter a public restroom and then actually use the germ incubator called a toilet. The way I see it, sitting on a public toilet is like sitting down in your favorite chair and wiggling your rear end a little to get comfortable except that your “chair” is a Petri dish containing the filth of humanity. It doesn’t matter how many times you wipe the seat or how many layers of toilet paper you put around the porcelain; it’s still like rolling around in a dumpster. To make matters worse, me being of the male gender naturally leads to use of the men’s restroom which means the petri dish is a science experiment from the 1700’s and has never been cleaned out. So, knowing that Cambrie and I would later need to burn off the entire outer layer of our respective skins to be clean, we walked the plank to the men’s restroom.

I took a deep breath—to both calm my nerves and provide a few more seconds of non-toxic air—as I pushed the door open. What happened next; well, a father somewhere wasn’t doing his duty. I held the door as Cambrie crossed the threshold and walked around the corner. When I came around the corner, Cambrie had stopped dead in her tracks again. Standing up against two urinals, were two pairs of little, white, bum cheeks staring back at us; their soaking pants and underwear sprawled around their ankles. I didn’t know quite what to say and from the look on Cambrie’s face, she didn’t know what questions to ask. We sat there and stared for a few seconds, both lost in our own thoughts; me, furious at the store for not having a “family” bathroom and Cambrie wondering why in the world these two boys were standing in the middle of the bathroom, naked.

Next, we rushed into a stall were Cambrie finished her business after I did my best to “clean” the toilet. As we walked out of the bathroom I said something like, “gee, those boys were kind of strange weren’t they?” Cambrie’s response: “They must need someone to teach them the right way to go potty. That was gross.”

Truer words have never been spoken and I felt sorry for the two little boys. I vowed right then and there that Zane would have plenty of practice standing up to pee before I ever let him go into a public restroom alone. You never know who’ll you meet in any given place at any given time, and like I mentioned earlier, it’s my duty to make sure he grows up learning all aspects of being a man; my duty to make sure his horse will be white.

An Apology

To the crew at Layton Chili's:
I'm sorry. I had no idea that tonight would be the night he wanted to learn to use a straw. Thanks for sending the "sweeper" to clean up around our table half-way through the meal. Watch out for the ranch dressing when cleaning up; it’s everwhere.
Sincerely,
A dad who loves his kids, but may just not take them to “dine in” for a while.

Halloween Hangover

We have so much fun at Halloween time! Each year we go visit Grandma Carol and Grandpa Bill all dressed up. This year we went at the end of the month which made Cambrie a little worried. She didn't want to miss seeing them! Zane is a spider this year and Cambrie is Snow White. That spider costume was adorable on Zane! And Cambrie is always cute in her princesses (she is still a princess almost every day).

We carved pumpkins this year which was a first for us. Cambrie was really hesitant to touch the goup. But she did end up digging in and getting the guts all cleaned out. She was a big helper! Zane on the other hand wanted to get his hands in it from the start. Our pumpkins turned out pretty well, if I do say so myself! It took longer than expected and Blake was getting a little frustrated but even he liked them in the end.

The kids started their trick-or-treating early at Blakes work. They get a pretty good haul there and its warm and close together. Thats always a plus in my book. Madison got to come with us. No, I don't have 3 kids.

We attended the ward trunk-or-treat. Another fast and easy haul. Cambrie got to be with her friend Shayla

Papa and Grandma hosted a fun Halloween party this year. It was filled with games, witches brew, chili, and mummy rolls.

Whew. Lots of Halloween activities! We did do some real trick-or-treating also. Cambrie absolutely loved it! She didn't want to stop and Zane was so funny! He got the concept really fast. He would knock on the door get his candy and say "thank you" in his little language. Its so fun taking the kids out! Now we have way to much candy and we are exhausted!
