Picture story

 Last Sunday!

Lil loves Jacks so much she wants to eat him
 or kiss him
Elliott wants in on the action.

This upsets both kids, yet Jackson remains his chill self
I put the camera on the sofa to take a photo.  Lillian has stolen Jackson from Elliott
run into the shot, steal Jackson from Lil.  Elliott's okay with that.  Lil not so much.
We load up in the car and head to Church.  Elliott screams upset our neighbors were already gone to church.  I say who are we in charge of? "ourselves" comes the answer from sobs in the back seat.

its late and I think I could sleep now. night.

my life be like...

This week has been hard.  Lillian has been running circles around me as I have been on the phone trying to coordinate everything with UCLA for Tuesday's visit.    Worried and excited.  Scared and concerned.  Right now I can't sleep and its way past my bed time.  To many emotions going on.
Here are some photos from today

Elliott helped Steven move someone this morning!  What a great way to start the day!
Lillian has taught herself how to ride Elliott's old bike with training wheels this week.  Its great, she will come up to me several times throughout the day and want her helmet on so she can go ride outside.
Say cheese!  Steven took Lillian to Costco and homedepot.  I made muffins and hung out with my mellow boys.  Lillian fell asleep on the way home and stayed asleep so I sent Elliott and Steven off to his soccer game.  We missed it but it was rather hot... so no worries.
Earlier in the day Mr. J was sporting a 'Bananas over mommy' outfit... after drooling all over that one, he got Handsome like dad.  Even though I like to think he looks like me :-)  Happy baby!
Pumpkin Chocolate chip muffins.  I made these for a baby blessing brunch we are going to at a friend's house tomorrow.  The one on the right is make from scratch.  They tasted amazing out of the oven.  The one on the left was a box of spice cake mix, 15 oz pumpkin and an egg.  The original recipe does not include the egg but I made them a couple weeks ago and Steven thought they were too dense.  I like them both.  Spice cake mix one wins though.  Plus its soooo easy to make.  I hope cake mix goes on sale again soon so I can stock up.

I love Technology!!

This is a photo of miss lil on September 7th with her hearing aids, watching Nemo for the first time with clear sound.  Before she could say and understand about 20 words... that list increases daily.  I have her repeat all sort of things though out the day.  I keep a running commentary of what is going on around us.  Talking comes very naturally to me :-) She gets one new concept/ word every other day or so.  Considering before she only heard half of the alphabet I say that's great progress.  Like learning a whole new language.

Lillian said OPEN!  Tonight!  So exciting!   It was unprompted, well she wanted something opened so she asked me.  I heard the op and the n!  It was two hours past her bed time but I will deal with that issue another night.  For now lets celebrate!

Here's her beautiful wonderful hearing aids.  Like I said before we ordered light pink but they came hot pink.  I think I will keep them hot pink for the time being.  I can see that she has them in across the park.  She will out grow the ear mold part every six months so I have a feeling we will go through lots of colors!

Here you an see the purple behind the ear.  She will keep these for many years, 3-5!  This was at Elliott soccer game today.  She loves listening to the airplanes!

Oh isn't she beautiful.  I just love her to pieces!  She kept bring Elliott his water and soccer balls during the breaks.  When he was playing she would check on sleeping Jackson and tell her friends.  Shhhhhhh.  She's such a love and great sister.

Peanut Butter M&M

So the other day at Target.... I bought some peanut butter M&M.  I love those.  I try and stay away from them for many reasons... but sometimes I just can't help myself.  I bought a big pack.  I waited to open them for a couple days and when I did open them I thought... I better do something with these before I eat them all.  What better thing to do with them then put them in cookies... a logical thing to do with them so I would not eat all of them right??  I polled friends on facebook and it was decided oatmeal cookies would be a good combination.  I made them at night without any kids helping... I felt like I was cheating the system.  Haven't baked without 'helpers' in a really long time.

I added 1T peanut butter to the recipe and the dough was so yummy.  The cookies were really good as well.  The crunch of the M&M and the slight hint of PB was my favorite.

Of course I still made a mess with flour and oats all over.

I am laughing now at my logic... don't eat all the peanut butter M&Ms.... so make cookies and eat all the cookies!

Thank goodness for this little nursing baby!  :-) :-)  what a chunky monkey!  We are working on doubling his birth weight by 3 months!  He is a sweetheart and makes my crazy life less crazy when he smiles and laughs at me.    I would have thought having a newborn would have made my life crazy this fall.  Yet having him here cause me to sit down, enjoy his smiles and reflect how fast time is actually going.

Lillian is doing great!  She's learning quickly and making all sort of connections.  I love her being able to hear me better.   We went to the grochery store this morning for the first time.  We have been spending a lot of time at home.  She loved the sounds and kept telling  She will take off her hearing aids occasionally when tired or hungry, I can't blame her I would also.  She hands them to me for the most part and I stick them in my pocket until she asks for them in after a few minutes.  Most importantly she likes to have them in the majority of the time.
Lillian is currently getting evaluated by our school district to see what her preschool options are!  We have 2-3 appointments a week but that will slooow down.  We are lucky that there are two great programs near by (oxnard and simi Valley)  One is completely focused on spoken language and one incorporates sign language.  Lillian's big test at UCLA are on Oct.2.  From that we hope to find out what her true degree of hearing loss is and if it will continue to get worst over time.  That will help us pick a preschool for her.  She knows about 25 words and about 20 signs.  She is using her words for most words instead of the signs now.  The signs are nice for when she has her hearing aids out.  They also help her communicate.  When she signs wheres daddy it melts my heart.

Elliott is loving kindergarten.  We had a rough first day of homework last week.  It took him 20 minutes to write his name???  After that I realized he comes home has snack and can goof around for a few minutes then homework time.   Normal there is a bribe involved, afterwards he can go over to a friend's house or have a friend over, or of course watch a tv show.

Hearing aids!

So last night was a combination of Christmas eve and going to the dentist to get cavities filled for me.  I was excited for Lillian to receive her hearing aids and nervous at the same time.  Part of me wants the hearing aids to fix every miss communication we have right away, but I know that won't be the case.  Plus they are one more thing to worry about.   I cleared my calender of anything else, had a friend pick up Elliott from school and dedicated this day to Lillian(and Jackson promised to be his angelic self).

We got to the appointment right on time after dropping Elliott off at Kindergarten.  We had to wait a few minutes while the audiologist made some last minute adjustments.  Lillian danced around and piled up books.  I watched her and thought how her world was going to open up so soon to different sounds and noise.  We put them in and they adjusted them.  Doing what is called a real ear measure, to make sure the aids were making sound according to what we think is Lillian's range.  I say think because we won't know what Lillian is actually hearing until we get scheduled to do the test at UCLA.  The other test we have done are subjective to Lillian's mood.

She liked them in for the first while, heard us say her name and Jackson make a cooing noise.  Then we took them out to go over the parts and cleaning.  She climbed under the chair and hung out there for a while.  One we finally pulled her out she got a snack while I tried to put them in her ears.  I will get better at this I have already.

After we left the office and she heard the water in the fountain, cars, and other sounds more clearly.  She was on over load.  The way home we distracted her with toys to keep her from pulling them out.  We dropped Steven off at work and headed home.  Came home and got her out of the car, she heard an airplane she signed to me.  Birds also!  I finally got her inside and we had some down time.  Starting 10:50 she started to pull them out, but then wanted them back in.  Her speech therapist was coming at 11, so I put them in and gave her a quick snack.   She sat for over seven minutes and made some new sounds while playing with a barn yard animal puzzle.  Baa, oink, moo, peep.  She can say Baa really well, thats all right now.  There were other games for her to play.  Toys came out of the bag one at a time.  This greatly confused Lillian who wanted them all out at once, but she played along.  She made an O sound :-) and said mor for more and ple for please (those two are words she learned forever ago to get what she wanted).  The therapist is use to a completely oral program, I could tell she was a little worried about the amount Lillian was using sign language (just basic signs).  I think the sign will help Lillian bridge the gap.  She is almost three with the verbal skills of a 1 year old.  Now tell me that would not be frustrating.

She pulled her left aid, which doesnt have the best fit out once and the therapist popped it back in quickly.  She showed me how to give it a little twist to get it in quicker.  Lillian played while I questioned about preschool programs.  I am reluctant to send lillian to a five day a week program.  She is so young, but has so much catching up to do.  Our school district has a two day a week program, but that is for all sort of delayed/ non typical children.  The five day a week program is a 20 minute drive and is specifially for deaf and hard of hearing children there are not many children in the program right now, Lillian might be the only one.  There is one child that comes in December and another that can come in January.

After Lunch I try to get her to nap.  Read books go nap I sign and tell her.  I took out her aids and put her down.  She jumped out minutes later.  She still needs naps but fights them sooooo.  I put her aids back in and turn on a movie on in hopes she will pass out.  Lilo and stitch, she lights up being able to hear it, loves the music.  I do the dishes take care of baby and big brother.  She finishes her movie and has more energy than I.  I think each day I am going to work on a simple word or command.  Today I picked bye bye or good bye.  she waves normally, but I asked her to say it.  Everytime I left the room I said good bye.  She finds sissors Elliott was using.  She is told to sit down (no sign just spoken) and I gave her paper.  She cuts away, happy as can be.  Baby Jackson watchs her energy with happiness.  Jackson needs a diaper change.  I tell her and sign diaper, she runs to get me one.  Then notices the diaper pail had run out of plastic liner so she brings me the trash can from my bathroom.  Yes, she really is thoughtful.  As she is dancing out of Jackson's room I say Lillian say good bye.  She turns waves and says good be!!!!!!!!!!!!!  music to my ears!  Yeah!   After she runs around for a few mor minutes- I think is it worth loading up the kids in the car returning my library book and driving around till she sleeps.  Yes! Half an hour later (yes it takes a while to get three in the car) we drop off my book and drive till she passes out.  I pull over pull out her hearing aids and head for quite nap time.

Steven just message me to see if I can get a sitter for tonight and go do my returns to Target and then go out to dinner with him!  Yes!  Wait can we leave a sitter in charge of the hearing aids... ieie.  Let's see if one is available.  They are water proof and covered by insurance after all.  I think I need a nap now!

TTFN (ps will post photos later!  Hearing aids are purple but the ear mold the part that fits right into the ear is HOT PINK.  We ordered light pink, if these fit we will switch later)

First day of school! First Day of SCHOOL!

getting
ready

What lillian and I did while Elliott was at school... made pudding and finger paint.  Remember Elliott doesn"t like chocolate so he wasn't missing out.

The day before school I felt total panic... the summer hadn't gone a I had originally planned... have baby, see Matt get married, get Elliott ready for kindergarten.

Instead these last few weeks I felt like I was just barely moving forward trying to get minimum things done around the house, taking care of baby, and putting maxium time towards getting help for miss lillian.

Luckily I calmed down realizing that he had three full year of preschool.  One taught by myself and my other mom friends, two at one of the best preschools at town.  He would be fine.  He was.   This morning Steven Elliott Jackson and I walked .6 miles to our school.  Lillian stayed home with Nana Paula.  We had a orientation in his class for an hour then we did a scavenger hunt together to find basic things around his class. Steven had to leave to catch his flight to BYU for recruiting.  Elliott then sang a few songs, had story time and then it was time for Jackson and I to go.  I saw a lip quiver when it was the final time to leave, but think that was more for me.

Most parents look forward to this day like nonother.  It was a great day!  I was going to miss my big boy helper but had great special time with the little ones.

morning the hair

So Steven has early morning meetings on Sunday.  Lots of people do, no big deal.  I realize after months of 9 am church that the only thing I can do Sunday mornings is get ready for Church.  If I try to do even the breakfast dishes, then some disaster happens making us late.   Can't find socks, shoes, scripture chart etc.  equal total kid melt downs.  You understand I'm sure.

What I'm about to tell you is meant for entertainment let this in no ways discourage anyone from having kids... I've been at this parenthood thing for a few years and other than Elliott's first few days of life , when he cried, spit up, peed and pooped on me with in 24 hour period (I have never seen Steven laugh so hard), I've never had something like this happen to me.  So once every 5.5 years do able:) you can kinda see where this post is heading now huh?

The night before we had been at my parents celebrating Matthew and Aly's wedding so we all got to bed late.  Of courses that morning Steven's meetings started an half an hour earlier.  I woke up before the kids miracle and showered, put on make up and blow dried my hair.  It looked great** sigh**
Being the smart mom I am, I knew not to get dressed until the last second.

So I decided to give Jackson a bath. It was his blessing day after all.  Have him on the changing table when Lillian comes and shows me she needs a new diaper.  Ewww gross.  So I turn my head of nicely done hair to wipe her hand and suddenly I feel warm rain.  On my hair.  Cover up Jackson quickly with part of his towel.  He was very well hydrated so it wasn't 2 gross, but still gross.

I changed Lillian, put a diaper on Jackson (actually two diapers he was due for a blow out poo and in his white blessing outfit no thank you)

Called my mommy (nice thing about living close to my mom she is on call to help me when disaster strikes).  She hurried over, apparently she thought someone was hurt/dead.  No one hurt just my hair.  I jumped in the shower quickly.  Church started in less than  20 minutes.  Answered the door to let me mom in my towel.  She got jackson dressedand found Lillians dress.  we got there in time
