The Yuck-Yuck Truck

Tuesday morning, around 7:15am, is a highlight at our house.

Tuesday is trash day.

IMG_9642For as long as I can remember, Calan has called trash, “yuck-yuck” probably because I would tell him it was yucky and needed to be thrown away.  AND, being such a boy he has an automatic attraction to big trucks… it is the perfect combination for our little man.IMG_5514

We live across the street from a cul-de-sac, so not only does Cal get to watch the trash truck pick up our garbage, he gets to watch it pick up 6 other houses with a perfect view from his upstairs bedroom window.  He is in heaven!  The only problem is when it’s all over Cal begs for more, which of course has to wait for another week.  A week is a long time to a 2 year old.

IMG_9601After the truck is gone we pull out one of his trucks and he zooms around picking up “trash” and adding it to his collection.  He even has the sound effects down for when he decides to put his truck in reverse… he will “beep, beep beep” until he decides it’s time to drive forward.  Patrick has informed me that all boys are born with the ability to do sound effects.  You should hear him fly an airplane. :)

She’s a Pro…

IMG_9994Ellie loves to eat!  In the last couple of months she has mastered feeding herself.  It’s not always neat and tidy, but she IMG_0006really does an amazing job!

Her favorite is pasta.  Seriously, when I make pasta of any sort, Ellie can out eat Calan.  It is pretty amazing!  How can she eat so much and be so tiny?

Before lunch…                                                                                          After lunch…

IMG_9986I haven’t found anything that she won’t eat… broccoli, frozen peas, eggs with zucchini, pesto chicken- you name it.  But when she’s had enough she’ll let me know by throwing everything from her highchair onto the floor with great force.

Ellie never chokes.  If something is too big or she can’t chew it up, she will simply spit it out.  She is such a smart baby!

The only problem is that now she only wants to feed herself.  I IMG_5537have to plan meals that I can chop up small enough for her to feed herself.  Feeding her baby food with a spoon is now a no-go.  Such an independent little lady!

Ellie has 2 new tricks at the dinner table.  She has started signing the word “more”.  She IMG_5756does it by clapping her hands together- which isn’t the correct handshape- but is perfectly understood just the same!

Her other trick is folding her arms for prayer.  When I say to her “Fold your arms Ellie” She will clasp her hands together just the same as Cal does.  It is amazing to me how much she learns just from observing the world around her.  I love it!

Such a big girl!
