I guess that is just expected when you have 3 children. I have been mocked because I have not updated my blog recently and so I would like to share a little about what has been going on in my life for the past two months.
- At the end of March we were privileged to have Steve’s sister and her family come to stay with us for a few days. The visit was very fun and flew by and as we were going constantly. We were able to go to Muir Woods, China town, tide pooling and many more fun SF activities!
- On April 1st right after I called Steve and tried to April Fool him about being pregnant, I went in to brush my teeth. Of course being the good dentists wife I followed by fluoride mouth rinse – which was weird because I couldn’t keep it in my mouth and it just kept oozing out. Well, after several attempts I looked in the mirror and to my astonishment my mouth was crooked (more so than usual). My first thought was that I had a stroke and it was confirmed when I checked the internet and one of the hidden symptoms was hiccups which I had had for the 24 hours preceding this moment. Did I mention my husband was out of town for the week and I was home alone with the three kids? Did I also mention I was right in the middle of a move? Anyway, after some hysteria and phone calls, I went to the ER to find out what I actually had was Bells Palsy. Eventually I couldn’t blink my left eye and my mouth felt like I had just been to the dentist, but the feeling never left me. I couldn’t taste anything and it left my completely fatigued. My parents came to help the next day and Steve flew home from Dallas the next night.
- Since then I have been to an acupuncturist twice and had a priesthood blessing and I am proud to say that I think I was completely better within three weeks – which the usual healing time is 6-10 weeks. My acupuncturist did recommend that I really take it easy for awhile – which was impossible since I was moving!
- We moved to our new house on April 12th. I love our new house and Ben was finally okay with living here once the Wii was finally hooked up – so in essence you could say “Home is where the Wii is”. Anyway, we had a lot of help from friends and my parents came for the big day. It was nice because we could start moving in on the 1st, so we were able to take it slow and move a little at a time.
- The next weekend Steve’s parents came out for a visit. Again I was able to have help in getting stuff put away and make the house a home. I’m afraid I wasn’t into sight seeing on this visit. I am sure all the help I had definitely helped on my recovery as well.
What I have learned!!!
The past month has definitely been a learning moment for me. First of all, I have to say at one point I was grumbling with “Why Me”, but then I looked around and saw all the many blessing Heavenly Father has bestowed upon me and his tender mercies that he was giving me alongside the trial. I just had to look a little closer and realize trials are there for a reason and it helps us to learn and grow, but through it all if we look closely then we will notice his arm extended in love at the exact same time.
Another blessing I received, which at the time seemed like a challenge was forgoing the internet. In General Conference, Elder Ballard gave an amazing talk that lifted my spirits and helped me remember my true purpose in life. In the talk he said “Avoid any kind of substance abuse, mistakenly thinking that it will help you accomplish more. And don’t allow yourself to be caught up in the time-wasting, mind-numbing things like television soap operas or surfing the Internet.” At that point in time I made a goal to spend a little less time on the computer and more time with the kids. The next week I called to move my phone number and they told me in order to transfer the same number I would have to pay $25 and go a week without phone access – easy enough! Then he mentioned that also included the internet – that is when I started feeling weak and wondered if I could even go a week’s time without such a device. Well, due to some technical errors, the week turned into 2+ weeks. So I was able to survive the 2 weeks and felt like I was in addiction recovery, which is probably true and now I am not quite so drawn to the computer. Now I have spent about 10-20 minutes on the computer each day and have spent more time with my kids (except for today in order to finally update my blog). I am hoping it will also help because we are going to sell the computer armoire and just use the laptop on the side table in the dining room. As big as our house is, there was not enough room for the computer.
So that is the past two months in a nutshell – I will try to be better about blogging, but it is just the last thing to do on my list and often times I don’t get down that far! Know this – If I haven’t posted in awhile, it means more quality time with the kids and they are happier!
