The Oldroyd Family

To make a VERY long story short, I'm in the hospital. I've been here since last Tuesday evening. It started with kidney stones, which fortunately, as of last night, I think I might be done with (for now at least). The last kidney stones I had don't even hold a candle to these ones... holy cow. I didn't think that much pain was possible. Anyhow, the kidney stones put me into labor & it took me a while to realize it because it was the middle of the night & I was doped up on Morphine. So lots of stuff has happened & I've been drugged up most of the week. I am finally feeling better, not being on the morphine & I'm also able to be on a less aggressive drug for my contractions. I may end up having to stay here until the babies come (whenever that is) due to the fact that at some point each day, they have to take measures to slow my contractions down & all I'm doing is laying in a bed. Today's appointment was VERY exciting! Joan (my mom-in-law) got to join us. Babies are still doing well. I was concerned because I felt like the baby boy was crazy and kicked nonstop and the baby girl rarely kicked. Well as it turns out, she's head up but totally bent in half so her legs are in front of her face (we're getting that girl into gymnastics!) and baby boy is head down with his sister sitting on his face... so basically all four little feet are in the same area of my belly. So it's really both of them kicking all in one spot. Hence the craziness I feel. I finally got the opportunity to be on the 3-D ultrasound machine but of course the babies didn't cooperate. As mentioned before, baby girl has her legs in front of her face so we could catch glimpses but nothing great, and since she's sitting on baby boy's face, we couldn't see him either. Oh well! I guess we'll just have to wait to see them in August! And that's my next exc...

We may have planted a few too many tomato plants in our garden... but I have to admit, it's good timing with the salmonella outbreak. We have more tomatoes than we could possibly eat. We've provided them for Sam's parents & several neighbors & still have plenty! All of these cherry & grape tomatoes were picked last night by Sam... he could probably get as many in just a couple more days! Need tomatoes? Come on over! (We also have an excess of cucumbers!)

Those of you who know me well (or read my blog last summer) know that I'm crazy in love with my puppies. I'm just an animal person & would have a zoo in my house if Sam would let me. Since most of my blogging has been about the babies & my pregnancy, I wanted to blog about my cute little Chihuahuas. They are naughty sometimes & can drive me crazy but I love them. Dogs love unconditionally. They always meet me at the door with wagging tails & love me no matter what. They've been my little buddies & bed rest is much better with them around. They're always willing to snuggle up & take a nap with me. They're a little nuts & not the best trained dogs in the world but they've both been good dogs overall & I'm glad I have them. I don't know what it's going to be like with 2 babies & 2 dogs who think they're babies... it'll be interesting. But at least they have each other! And I know when the twins get ...

Well, it's 3:42 a.m. & I'm awake-- so why not blog?? It's not normal for me to be up at this hour but both babies were kicking like CRAZY, I needed to go to the bathroom, & then realized I was starving. So here I am! I'm really excited because last night, Sam & I finally ordered our new camera. My digital camera is very old & doesn't take fantastic pictures, as you can see from my lovely belly updates. This new one is a Canon PowerShot S3 IS & not only will it take great pictures, but has video capabilities (with stereo sound) too. That was key for us since we want to be able to take short clips of the babies for our out of town family & friends to enjoy. We're not really home video people so that should be enough for us! So here it is! My new toy will arrive in 7-9 business days! Isn't it pretty?

Baby Boy: Size : 2 lbs. 6 oz. (40th percentile) Current Position : Head down Favorite Activity: Kicking mommy in the ribs Baby Girl: Size: 2 lbs. 4 oz. (38th percentile) Current Position: Bum down Favorite Activity: Kicking brother in the head (which makes him mad... hence the kicking mommy's ribs) My appointment went well today & Dr. A is very happy with the babies' growth. I got to see my baby boy yawn today on the u/s & that was very cool. We had a quick trip to the hospital Saturday because after working a full week & going to graduation, I had pretty frequent contractions & they got up to every 7 or 8 minutes by Saturday morning. But they slowed down with the help of some medicine & I got to go home. I found out that if at any point I dilate even to a 1/2 cm, I'm in the hospital for the rest of my pregnancy. Like I've said before, I have a very conservative doctor. So lets all just hope that doesn't happen! Bed rest stinks but I...
