Summer Vaca - Day 1 - Glen Canyon Dam

 This year we decided to take our family vacation to Colorado to visit Mesa Verde and catch some of the sights along the way.  Cydnee's family was planning on meeting in Mesa Verde over the weekend and there was plenty to see both there and back.  However, by the time the time came, everyone except Cydnee's parents and us had backed out for various reasons, so it was another trip with the in-laws.

We started our trip be traveling to Glen Canyon Dam.  We had just bought a tent trailer from Cydnee's uncle in Utah, sight unseen, and Cydnee had talked her parents into bringing the trailer with them and meeting us in Panguich, UT.  They were driving in the motor home they had just purchased as well, and this trip provided an opportunity for both of us to check out our new diggs.

We arrived at the Glen Canyon just in time to check out the dam.  What an amazing mark of human ingenuity.

 

The bridge over the dam was pretty impressive as well.  The kids had a lot of fun looking down at the river at all of the rafts and boats moving around.  They looking like ant boats though.

 

 

We stayed at the Glen Canyon NRA Wahweap Campground.  It was a nice location with some decent tree cover.

It was fun to setup our tent trailer for the first time.

 We went into Page for the evening and had some good Mexican food.  Afterwards, everyone was excited to head back to camp and get some sleep in our own trailer.

It was a great start to what was going to be a great trip.  We had survived a long day of driving without any casualties and were ready for some real fun tomorrow.

Kodachrome Basin

This past Memorial Day weekend, we joined my sister Erin's family in Kodachrome Basin State Park in Utah for a camping trip. My kids love nothing more than camping with their cousins. I've been camping here several times and love it because they have showers and the camp offers lots of exploring in and around it. It is situated next to the Grand Staircase National Monument and all the fun that area offers. I've never however taken time to hike the hikes within Kodachrome. So this time, that's what we did!

Lyndsee is really getting independent in her hiking. It may be time to say good-bye to the back pack.

The scenery is pretty good looking and so is my man.

The kids enjoyed digging in the dirt,

Playing some ball,

And roasting some marshmallows.

One of the hikes we did was to Shakespeare Arch. I really have a passion for arches.

We look forward to doing more camping this summer!

On a side note: On our way to Kodachrome, we discovered this little lunch stop in Orderville. It is called Soup Town which is an old nick name for Orderville. It was really fun to stop here because they had good food and it was connected to an old building that used to be the merchantile (ZCMI) for the town. They had a little museum in that building now. Just wanted to mention it so that next time your passing through you can stop and get an ice cream cone or meal and learn just a little about the town's history while your at it. I've posted a picture because it doesn't appear to have the name of the establishment on the building very big so you might miss it if you don't know what it looks like. I love discoveries like this!

End of the Year Stuff

Will had a "Let's Play Music" concert in May to show the things he has learned in this second year of the program. He was full of animation as he sang and played. He has done so well this program! I can't wait to see where he is playing the piano at after his third year!

Reagan graduated preschool and will be heading off to Kindergarten in the Fall.

 Taylor had her last concert with Ms. Brenda's Desert Dynamite. She wanted to add some singing and acting to the mix so she has started a musical theater class called "Hollywood Kids". Its hard to believe she's been dancing with Ms. Brenda for four years!

 Reagan will continue taking dance with Ms. Brenda next year.
