So, as some of you may know, we have a new addition on our little farm. And we almost lost one. But first things first. So, onto the addition.
Abbi gave birth to an adorable little heifer on April 12, at around 3 o'clock pm.
So, we now have an very cute little heifer that we will be keeping. Her name?!?
Chrysanthemum. aka Chrissy.

And now onto our almost lost. Wednesday, April 13, when we milked Abbi that night, she wouldn't let down her milk, so Mom called our vet and he said to do hot compresses, because we thought at that time that she had mastitis. But little did we know what she really had. While Mom was on the phone, Dad was also on the phone with our Grandpa's vet that he had told us to call and the vet said to call another vet that specialized in dairy cows.
So, Dad then called the other vet and he then came over to see Abbi. He then preceded to take her temperature. We then found out that she had edema, not mastitis. Then he gave her some shots. While he went up to his truck to get something else she collapsed while in the stanchion. When he came back down he asked if she had been wobbly when she fell down, which she had. He then told us that she had a little bit of milk fever.
He then went back up to his truck to get an IV. When he came back down he tied back her head, popped a needle into her vein which made blood squirted out, and he then hooked it up to the IV and pumped calcium into her.
We then had to get her up and out of the stanchion and then preceded to do every that has ever scared her in the stanchion. We finally had to hot shot her, not once but three times and put boards on the sides of the stanchion for her to get a grip.

Well that was an ear full. So, now mama and baby are doing great, and both are adorable!!!!
