Activities Week February 23

Monday, February 23: English Conversation Class! Come and enjoy a visit from Ao Hamamoto. Her husband Shigeti graduated last May, and she returned with him and their son Ikkan to Tokyo. We look forward to seeing her again and to asking her many questions! We will also talk about what surprised us most when we came to Arizona to live! Contact Barbara Campbell with questions! IWFC Potluck (Potluck--where everyone brings a dish to share and we all try lots of different foods): 6 PM, SOBO Lounge; Bring a dish from your culture that represents "Comfort" Food. Comfort Food is food that we love and crave when we are not feeling well or having a bad day. In the U.S. an example might be Chicken Noodle Soup or Macaroni and Cheese. Friday, Feb 20: Date Night, All kids 1 & older are invited to participate. IWFC volunteers will be on hand to babysit for 3 hours (5:15-8:15PM) while you and your significant other have some time to your self. You must RSVP to Ashley (kellercrew6@gmail.com) no later than Wednesday!!

Saturday, Feb 21: Family Fishing Clinic (If you want to go but don't want to go alone--email and we can organize groups!!) ; Free admission! Catch some fish at Bonsal Park Lake, 59th Ave. and Bethany Home Rd., February 21, 7 to 10 a.m. this event offers instruction on how to "snag the big one," bait hooks and information about fish. Bring your fishing pole, a container to take home your catch and something to sit on. A limited supply of rods and bait are available on a first come, first served basis. A fishing license is not needed during this event; however, if you continue to fish after the clinic, you must follow Arizona laws and regulations. Register at the Game and Fish booth the morning of the event. Call 623-930-4701, for more information.

Cooking Club: Needs Hosts! If you would like to host a cooking club activity, please email Misook (misoogi_1@hotmail.com) or Isabel (barnesd1@cox.net). Example of how cooking club works: Let's say that I know how to cook a dish. I would email Misook and tell her that I would like to host cooking club. I would tell her if Wed or Thursday works best for me and what time I would prefer to host. Misook would then reply and we'd send out an email to all the IWFC woman. They will directly RSVP to you if they are coming. Usually each participant pays a couple of dollars to cover the cost of ingredients. HAPPY COOKING!!

Activities in Glendale this week!

Glendale Festival of Chocolate and Romance
Historic Downtown Glendale will be a chocolate lover's paradise Feb. 6-8, as the 14th annual Glendale Chocolate Affaire celebrates with music, romance and an abundance of that sinfully delicious confection, as well as free admission and free parking!

So, what goes better with chocolate than romance? The festival has become the largest gathering of national romance novelists in the Southwest. This symposium of literary romantics offers fans the opportunity to get up close and personal with authors, as well as the chance to attend free writing workshops given by the experts.

Families with children will enjoy myriad activities, including hands-on arts and crafts, face-painting and a rock-climbing wall. Horse-drawn carriage rides will be available throughout the weekend to take couples or families on a scenic, charming ride through the historic Catlin Court district.

Activities Week of February 2

The Official IWFC activities will start Feb 10th
but until then, here is some important information and some activities to keep you busy:

1. 'Allocating'--Each trimester Thunderbird students are given some monies to disburse to those clubs which they feel they will most benefit from. It is very important that we have our significant others allocate to the IWFC so that we can pay for activities. Students will allocate their monies on Friday, Feb 6th. Make sure to mention to your husband all that IWFC does: Field Trips, bi-monthly dinners, Date nights, Craft Nights and more. And, yes, they get to participate too! Also, as a bonus!! If you allocate to our club we will give you a free Thunderkids t-shirt!!!

2. Committee- We always love to have new people on our committee. Our committee meets about once a month. Come and help plan for our trimester! The more the merrier! SATURDAY, Jan 31st-- 10 AM-1 PM, Kachina Elementary School, 2nd Annual Family Community Day; East field at Kachina Elementary School (5304 W Crocus Dr; Glendale, AZ); Informational booths, game booths, food booths and items for sale--nominal cost for some booths with proceeds going to teacher's classrooms. GREAT WAY to get to know Glendale if you are new!

FRIDAY, Feb 6- ~3 PM, TAC, Club Day; Don't forget that as a significant other you can join any club! Come and see what Thunderbird has to offer! There are lots of booths and usually a good treat or two. Definitely family & kid friendly!
