Big C's Big Solo

What!?!

I can't believe it is already May!! It feels like yesterday when I posted last! Okay - maybe it feels a little longer...Oh my but a lot has happened since then.

Well, to catch you up a little - I think I mentioned in my last post our family was going to be moving into a new house soon. Over Christmas break we had the privilege of installing the new cabinets in our house! We started on Dec 23 and tried to get them all finished up in one day so we wouldn't have to do anything on Christmas Eve. Well let me tell you something right now - NOTHING goes smoothly and quickly in the construction industry. There is always some kind of a hiccup. We got pretty far on the Thursday, but not far enough. We worked a little on Chrismas Eve, but wanted to spend the time together, snuggled in a warm home, enjoying the season. So we inched toward the finish line, but still had a few things to wrap up. Christmas morning came and we enjoyed every minute of it, yet we still had some things that needed to be finished up before Monday when our laminate would be installed. So we unfortunetly spent a little while there Christmas Day as well, but refused to spend all day there, so we quickly wrapped it up for the day knowing we only needed to cut out the sinks in the bathrooms and the kitchen to finish up our project. We decided to wait and do this the next day. This day just happened to fall on Sunday! We are usually very strict when it comes to the Sabbath, but because of Christmas, the circumstances were a little different. We ran over to the house after church to wrap things up. As my husband was finishing up the last part of the kitchen sink - disaster struck! The saw he was using hit a screw and kicked back on him causing it to wrap up in his long sleeved shirt and dive into the top of his forearm. Once reality hit us, we immediately hopped in the car and sped to the ER. Thanks to the amount of blood he was losing, they got him in immediately and went to work. After X-Rays and evaluations, the diagnosis was not great. He had cut 3 tendons to his fingers and would need them repaired in surgery. They decided they wanted to wait to do the surgery till Wednesday, so they cleaned it out, sewed it up, and sent him on his way. Three days later the tendons were repaired, (on our anniversary no less), and he was finally on the mend. Three Dr. visits and quite a few Physical Therapy appts. later, he is almost back to normal.

We are extremely grateful things didn't end up worse than they were and thank Heavenly Father everyday he still has the use of his hand. I can say two things for sure - We will never work on Sunday again no matter the circumstances, and that will be a Christmas we will never forget!!

Whew!!

Whew...what a year!! It has come and gone so fast I have needed to sit and ponder about the events that took place, and the life lessons learned.

My husband's company went out of business in January due to the hard economic times. There were moments of self-pity, and a few stray tears from all during this transition, but the unbelievable support from our friends and family did not allow us to remain on that course for long. After doing everything in our power to remain afloat, we turned our lives over to our Heavenly Father and held on for the ride. My husband has since obtained another job with a wonderful company, still allowing for the flexible schedule he has been accustomed to and adding the stability we have been lacking for quite a few months. We are also getting ready to move into a brand new house!! Thanks to many, many prayers, and very generous angels, you may say we are doing better now than before! So my husband and I wade through the day to day trials stronger and closer to each other, our kids and to our Heavenly Father.

Big C is 10 and.....busy!! During the course of this year, Big C has earned is Bear award in scouts, and is nearly done with his Webelos. He is now in 5th grade and has the best teacher ever (one of my best friends)!! He participated in his 5th year of football, as quarterback. Was a part of the Roosevelt 5th grade boys basketball team. Is a member of the Roosevelt Choir, as well as our Ward Choir. He will also be starting his 4th year of basketball the first of the year. If all of this isn't enough, he is also managing to get straight A's in school!! He is a great big brother and the best helper a mother could ask for.


Little C is 7 and.....happy!! He has an infectious laugh and once he gets going, we all end up joining in! He is in 2nd grade and loving every minute of it. He enjoyed a 2nd year of flag football. I think he is ready for the helmet and pads....he wants to tackle!! He will also be playing his 1st year of basketball in January, coached by his very own Dad!! Little C loves to use his imagination. He spends hours creating all sorts of devices with his legos. He also loves to write stories, he has notebooks full of them. He has also achieved a perfect report card! We are so proud of all he has accomplished!!


Miss K is 5 and.....a DIVA!! She is constantly dressing up and telling her older brothers exactly what they should be doing, and how they should be doing it. She loves to sing and does so anytime and in any situation. We often hear her singing as she does the dishes, cleans her room, or takes a shower. She has entertained many Wal-Mart customers with her voice during our grocery shopping excursions. She took dance classes this year and performed in a few different places. She was thrilled to have her brothers support her, instead of the other way around. She loves to be in charge and to babysit her daddy when he is sick. What a great little helper!!

KoKo is almost 3 and....a DOG!! Did you really think I was going to write a whole paragraph about my dog? We love him and we are glad he is a part of our family!

As you can see it has been a very busy year. We have learned to support one another, and to rely not only on each other, but on our Heavenly Father.


We hope you have learned as much this year as we have because what good is a passing year if it was not spent learning and growing. We love you all and hope you have a Merry Christmas and a very inspired New Year!!

Happy Thanksgiving

My little sister showed me these cute little guys and I thought they were so much fun I had my 9 yr old scouts make them for our last den mtg. I made one really quick and didn't think it would be too difficult for them to do......I WAS WRONG!!! They had frosting everywhere. I was amazed at the places they managed to get it. They "accidentally" broke their cookies, and ate their candy corn. It was a messy nightmare, but I think they all had a good time - and that is all that matters. This is a picture of one my son made!

A Home for Quigley

Big C was given a project in his class a few weeks ago - the task - make a house for "Quigley"! His teacher told them a story about a duck named Quigley who was in desperate need of a place to live. Their assignment was to build a suitable house using 4 different kinds of materials. Big C's dad actually got involved in this assignment seeing as how it was right up his alley...that was a welcome relief for me!! Anyways, Big C and Dad put their heads together and came up with a design they were both pretty proud of. Of course I got dragged in to help put on the finishing touches! Here is what we came up with...






I think Quigley would be proud to live in such a house....unless of course he is a Utah Utes fan!!

Happy Days....

Now, contradictory to what the title says, I am sad to see another year of school start!! Big C has his last year in elementary school, Little C is already in 2nd grade, and Miss K is in Kindergarten this year!!

That last statement more accurately describes the title of this particular post. Miss K is SO excited to be in school! She gets to go for the whole day too....well at least on Mondays, Wednesdays, and every other Fridays. The other two days I get to hold on to her and pretend she is still my little girl. She is a very smart little girl, and she keeps me on my toes. She is very independant, but gives her mom just the right amount of attention she needs to make her still feel needed. She is going to do just fine in school.

Little C is excited to be in 2nd grade. He is a little further away from being one of the "younglings" in the school, and a little closer to being one of the "Big Kahunas". Casey is an amazing litte boy who loves to ask questions and won't leave you alone till he gets an answer. "Because I said", never works on this little guy!! He is starting his second year of flag football as well. His BIG determination doesn't seem so big when my little guy is standing on that huge field. Oh, well - can't wait to see what kind of growth we will see in him this year - physically as well as mentally!!

Big C is in 5th grade!! He has grown so much in ways I would never have imagined. He has become one of my very best friends! I hope we can always keep that connection. He has Mrs. Mayes for his teacher this year who just happens to be one of my VERY good friends! Big C loves it so far...little does he know it is going to be like having your mom for a teacher. She knows exactly what he is capable of, and will take no less, but will expect much more. I hope this year is everything he wants it to be! He is also starting his 5th year of football!! He's pretty sure that this year is going to be "his" year. Lets see if he can put those words into action!

Well, that's the happenings of the Wright family for now. I hope to keep you updated on the progress, events, and accomplishments through this year...but....you all know how that has been working!! Nevertheless, I will do my best!!

It's A Hard Knock Life

With the boys and all of their sports, we decided it was time for Miss K to have her 15 mintues of fame. So what better way to showcase her "special" talents than dance class? It was perfect! She was not only able to dance, but sing as well! Each little girl received a little solo from the song "Do, Re, Mi" from "The Sound of Music"! If that isn't enough....she got to dance to, "It's a Hard Knock Life" from "Annie"! That is one of my favorite songs from a musical!

Miss K had a great time and was able to perform at quite a few different places. She performed at the Nampa Civic Center, the Farmer's Market, a Retirement Home, and then, of course, her dance recital. She loved being the center of attention, and having her family their to support her instead of the other way around.
