the year of the rabbit

We celebrated Chinese New Year this month by setting up a dim sum date with our home school group. The kids brought home this super cool marshmallow rabbits. I loved them!



We also played games I downloaded from free websites online. Money, counting, and addition. Fun for everyone!

daddy daughter love

Debuting this year at her first Daddy Daughter Dance was Pollyanna, pleased as punch to be included with the big girls.


Sunshine was initially put out that she had to share her dad, but when the big day came, she was over the moon to be able to show the ropes to Polly.


I heard the dancing was full of twirls and jumping, and they dined on lasagna and candy.


Thanks, Don! They love you madly.

a field trip and tour

Our home school group went to the new fire station they built down the street from us last week.


The kids and I brought chili and cornbread, with homemade cards. Polly's card said, "I hope you get good sleep," which they thought was hilarious and completely appropriate.


They had a great time checking out their tools and finding out which video games the firefighters play in their downtime.

for two hours a week

the children attend a home school science class at a local museum/nature center. The Little Master's class is called "Which 'Ology Is It?" and they study different disciplines of science each week.

It was TLM's turn to present about a special animal friend last week and he chose the corn snake. He made this cool poster and memorized his facts to present to the class. He drew the snake, cut it out, drew pictures of the animals a corn snake eats and pasted them inside flaps on the snake, put star stickers next to a moon to show that it was nocturnal, cut grass, and put together a cool stalk of corn. He traced and colored in the writing I put on the poster. Miss Catie said he did a super job and we were really proud of him.

another reason to like Polly

Today she told me, "One day, you'll be a very special person, Mudder."
Here's to hoping for that one day to come soon.


When she woke up this morning, she said, "The problem is that this is unacceptable and so it's a predicament and I don't want it. Fix it."
Yes, your majesty.

while we were snowed in

We did fun things like watching Where the Red Fern Grows.


If you've read the book, you'll know why they were crying and embracing Bruno by the end.


I had never seen the movie, but it's good to know it's just as tragic as the book.

snow in February

The public schools closed on Monday afternoon and won't be opening again until next week, because of....


Unfortunately for my kiddles, they didn't earn any snow days this week. But they did get a fun recess break with Bruno...because he ran away.




The good news is that Molly and Don held down the fort while we were retrieving the loser dog. Good thing he's been working from home all week!


The bad news is that after running two blocks in 8 inches of snow layered on top of two days worth of ice, I retrieved the loser dog.


He's now confined to snow walks in the backyard.
