Karlee Updates

This week Karlee was her 18 month checkup and shots at the pediatricians. Her stats are: 32 1/2 inches tall - 90%, 20 lbs 14 oz. - 5% (she doesn't even pass up her little cousin Jordyn - who is 6 months younger - I think, who weighs 20lbs 19 oz.) Karlee is not a huge fan of the Dr's office, this visit she cried from the moment the nurse called her name, all through the measuring process, while the pediatrician checked her out, and then especially when she got her last two shots. Whew... that poor girl. All I could do was laugh and hold her tight, as she tried climbing up my arms to get away. Can't say that I blame her when we are talking about getting shots. Ouch!

And the ants go marching on . . .

Okay so our ant situation lasted way too long. We are not getting too comfortable around here, just yet. After doing all we could do on our own, we called in the reinforcements and had the bug guys come and spray again. We told them to spray everything and real good. When a few days past without seeing any ants, I decided to do some major Summer cleaning - since everything has been torn apart. I started with our closet - whew! what a good feeling that was to get it all cleaned and sorted through. This feeling didn't last long, because I was so disgusted that the very next day the closet was taken over with those little buggers. Good thing I went to the store earlier and got a couple cans of Raid - Ant Killer, because I put those to good use, which have seemed to work. So we are now going on about a week without any sign of those buggers. I think that we may have a control on them, but I don't want to say that too loud, because my neighbor called me this morning and told me she has those little buggers again - this time like crazy.

Ants . . . Ants . . . Ants . . .

Short version: We have had ants for the past two weeks. I have pulled everything out of closets and have put everything back like 3 times. Oh how I hate ANTS!!!

Long version: For the past 2 weeks we have been dealing with ants. When we got home from our Bear Lake vacation we got home and with such an overwhelming mess that comes with unpacking we just went to bed, with best intentions of dealing with the mess Monday morning. On Monday morning, I was ready and anxious to get the vacation mess put away, but thought that I would get a bowl of cereal before I started to clean up. Thats when my whole day went down hill, and the next two weeks of my life would be Oh so Fantastic!

When I opened the pantry door, all I could see where hundreds of little ugly ants, so much for my morning cereal as they had beat me to it. Yep I had to through away 2 perfectly good (yummy) boxes of cereal. Grrr. . . . I did my best to get rid of the ants only to open up a small hallway linen closet (converted into a small pantry) to find hundreds more ants. I removed everything from the two pantries, putting all the contents into rubbermaid storage containers. Rob and I looked and looked, but could not find where they were coming from. On Wednesday someone came into spray, I was so glad to finally be done with these pests. I waited a couple days to put back all our pantry items.

Now the story doesn't end quite yet. We did enjoy a few Ant Free days, but again on the following Tuesday we had ants in our hall closet (not to be mistaken of the small linen closet). Not again!!! So we removed everything, this time we had found a place between the carpet and the baseboards where the ants were coming in. We caulked around the baseboards, which seemed to do the job. The next day with no ants we put everything back.

Once again we enjoyed our Ant Free home just in time for my brother and his family to come Thursday night for the weekend - well not for long! Thursday morning when Rob went to get a new box of cereal out of the pantry (the small hall linen closet). When he opened the door, I knew it wasn't good news, as he said "Um. . . Heather did you want me to tell you if we have ants again?" NO!!!, is what I thought, but Yes!!! that is right we had yet another hundred ants crawling all around our boxes of cereal. Again, we had to throw away another two boxes of cereal. We tried to quickly clean the mess up quickly before our family arrived. I went to the store and bought Raid Ant Killer, which has seemed to help.

On Friday morning I was sitting and visiting with Segi, my sister-in-law, when she noticed a steady stream of ants crawling on the wall, where the wall meets the ceiling, SERIOUSLY!!!! Will this never end! With Segi's help we sprayed as many as we could with the Raid. Later that day, while my brother and his family were at a wedding, I found another couple hundred back in the hall closet, so I sprayed the Raid again. This has been such a mess.

We are going on 2 days without another Ant invasion. I have my fingers crossed, but I am not totally convinced that the ants are completely gone. This has been exhausting and now I can't wait for the winter to come so that those dumb ants will be gone!

UPDATE: Monday morning - Rob just came in said we have ants all over the wall in our garage that connects to our house. Oh Lovely!!! What a GREAT way to start my week.

9 years . . .

Happy Anniversary to us! 9 years ago we were sealed together for Time and All Eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. We often laugh about our wedding day, because we were 30-45 minutes late for our own wedding (thank you SLC Olympic road construction). When we got to the temple doors we saw my mother who had been patiently/anxiously waiting for us to show up. I am sure there were many puzzled faces on our families faces as they waited in the temple sealing room. The rest of the day was beautiful, we had many pictures taken, and then a nice reception in Salt Lake. For our honeymoon, we went to Rob's favorite place in the world: Walt Disney World in Florida. We had so much fun. Can't find any of our pictures - darn our pre-digital camera. Really what a wonderful way to start our lives together. We continue to have fun in our marriage. Really it isn't too hard with Rob by my side, he loves to play. Our greatest joy is obviously our daughter Karlee, she bring so much joy to our family. So Happy Anniversary to us and to many more.

Milestone: 18 months old

Today Karlee is 18 months old. Karlee continues to bring so much joy to our home and our family. She is so darn cute! Time really does fly by - wow! She continues to grow and change so much. She is such a daddy's girl, so much so that she will have nothing to do with mom if dad is in the room or at home for that matter. Some new things that she has learned to do within the last month are:

• Walking - Yes she has finally decided that walking is pretty cool. She is still pretty wobbly, but enjoys practicing.
• Climbs on and off everything. Sometimes its more like climbs on and falls off. She isn't the most graceful quite yet. Some things that she loves to climb on are the couch, chairs, weight bench, tables, beds, etc.
• Balancing - Karlee has a small bouncy ball that she sits on and balances herself, she is pretty good at it.
• Favorite snacks: cheese, rice cakes, chicken, anything her dad eats, yogurt, and Cheetos.
• New words are: Love U, cheese, pease (please), "Hey baby", shoe.
• Has thrown up 3 times (I know gross-poor thing!)
• She has not been much of a snooper, she pretty much stays out our cupboards - so nice.
• Loves books - she has her baby bouncer in her room (because we can't find a place to store it yet), so she grabs a book and climbs into the bouncer and reads the book as if it were a Lazy Boy recliner.
• Dances when she hears music, she really can shake her bootie.
• Continues to be a great traveler. Most the time I am turning around to see if she is awake, because she is so quiet. She usually is awake, just looking outside the window.
• Loves Primary, especially Music time during Sharing Time. Her favorite song is "Do As I'm Doing". Karlee will sit so very still on the small chair and try her hardest to roll her arms, clap her hands, and stomp her feet.
• Her dad has taught her the best "Cheese-er smile".
• Loves to wear her shoes. She will go around the house saying "sue" (shoe), and carrying them for mom or dad to put them on.

Raspberry Days at Bear Lake

Raspberry Days is an annual event that is not to be missed. We always have such a good time. We went up north early last week, and made it our summer vacation. We spent a couple days in Salt Lake, Karlee and I got to spend some time with my sister and her family while Rob was busy with work stuff. Then on Wednesday up we went to Bear Lake. The drive was beautiful, we decided to go up through Evanston Wyoming, stopping in Park City to visit with Sally (Rob's sister). We had a yummy lunch, saw her new salon, and then she cut my hair. Back on the road . . . when we got to Laketown, UT Bear Lake looked beautiful. It was a turquoise blue, wish I would have gotten my camera out and took a picture, oh well. We had a good time while we were up there. We walked through the Raspberry Day vendor booths, ate yummy food, played in the water at the beach, took the boat out for a day of fun in the water, and went to the rodeo. We (Karlee and I) did catch the sick bug while we were up there but not actually until the last day so we were able to enjoy the whole time.

We spent some time at the beach, and I think that this was Karlee's first time playing on the beach. She had so much fun. She had such a fascination with the sand/mud. Karlee loves the water and hated when it was time to leave.

Karlee got to spend some quality time with her two cousins. They had so much fun together. The two boys are always so gentle with Karlee. I went to find Karlee and glad that I had my camera close, so I snapped this moment. So cute don't you think!

Rob's parents took their boat out on Saturday and the weather couldn't have been more perfect. We all had a really good time. Karlee wasn't too excited about having to wear her life jacket ('pink' - too cute huh), but once the boat got started she pretty much slept the day away. While Karlee was sleeping everyone that wanted took turns wake boarding, and surfing. Its been awhile for Rob and I, but we took our turns.

On Sunday before we headed home, we stopped over to Meadowville (just outside of Laketown) to visit with Rob's grandma June. She looked really good this visit. She is 88 years old and the oldest woman in Laketown, Utah. We took a 4 Generation picture since Rob's dad was there as well. I love pictures like these. Karlee wasn't too happy in the picture, she wasn't feeling too good - poor little thing.
