Steam Link

Steam Link (box) doesn't see new PC
Steam says it's paired with the Link-- have unpaired and re-paired several times-- the Link box gives me a code to enter into Steam, but as soon as I enter the code the prompt vanishes (so it's obviously responding to it) but it still doesn't see the PC where the code was entered.

All the research I've been doing today tells me that this is a Windows 11 problem (Old PC was Windows 10), but none of the solutions I've come across have done anything.

There's another PC with Steam (Win 10, but useless as a gaming machine) on the network, and the Link box still sees that one just fine. I removed my old PC from the list, but just can't seem to get the new one to show up, even though it's quite clear there is some kind of communication going on because the code prompt on the Link's display vanishes every time I enter the code on the PC.

Anybody out there familiar with this one?

the link main menu should show the pc name
on host pc, winkey + pause/break -> advanced system settings -> computer name [change]
reboot if you change it, then pair it again

No dice. Pairing works, but the Steam Link box still only shows the Windows 10 machine on the list, not my new Win 11 gaming PC.
1. Please try the new SteamVR Beta, outlined here: You will need client and host: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/250820/view/3884982211424067312?l=english

2. Please follow the troubleshooting guide here: https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/0E2C-406B-9135-38A4 under "Troubleshooting" "If you cannot connect try"

and let me know how it goes.

Same thing. Installed Steam Link on my Quest 2, opted into beta on both that and my PC, the Quest sees the Windows 11 PC, and they connect fine (although I was getting spasms of low res graphics when looking at menus in SteamVR all of a sudden, but whatever, I ran Fallout 4 and it looked good).

But, once again, I go out to the Steam Link, turn it on, it doesn't see my PC; and even though I unpair and re-pair the Steam Link on my PC, it never shows up on the Steam Link's menu (and still sees the Windows 10 system on my network just fine). And it still reacts to the pin number, as soon as I enter the pin number on my PC I go back out to where the Steam Link is, and the pin number window is gone.
Here's the "sorry, you're on your own" message sent from Steam support for a problem they refuse to fix.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Steam Support. I'm sorry that you're encountering an issue with Steam Remote Play

Due to the number of unique machine configurations, network setups, firewall settings, and various software configurations we don't provide in-depth technical support for this.

We encourage you to look through our Steam Remote Play FAQ which includes the most common technical issues that players encounter along with a basic troubleshooting guide.

As an additional resource, we encourage players to post in the Steam Discussions where other players may have had success resolving similar issues. If you are able to reproduce a bug with Remote Play, please post a detailed description of the bug along with the steps that can be taken to reproduce it in the discussion forum.

Again, I am sorry that we don't have a specific fix for your issue.

and my reply:

This is an issue that has been going on for years for users of the Steam Link Box and Windows 11. You guys said in 2021 that you were working on a fix for this issue, and here it is 3 years later, and there's still no fix. Don't tell me that that there's no help because of differing setups. This is a simple conflict between the Steam Link Box and Windows 11. There's no help because you guys haven't fixed it yet.

I have a useless peripheral now. Thanks a lot.

The problem has nothing to do with differing setups. It is specifically a problem with Windows 11 and the Steam Link hardware. So now I'm shopping for a replacement for the Steam Link hardware, and I guess I'm just going to throw it in the trash.
make sure windows network is set to private not public
any vpn is disabled
if using wifi, check router settings, disable wifi isolation
steam -> settings -> remote play = enabled, and allow direct = all/auto/my

Those were the very first things I checked, but thanks.
the link hardware is really no different on how it connects vs link apps

can you ping the link ip from the host pc?
same story - when i switched to win 11 firewall from eset - steam link is broken
make sure windows network it set to private not public

in eset open ports for steam
27000 - 27999 udp and tcp (just to cover them all from client, to remote play)
for remote vr, also uses ports 10400 - 10401 udp
