Steam Controller not working for Fallout 3, K&M only
Mods, just a heads up, I posted this in the Fallout 3 discussions as well but realized I might get more useful if it is here.

I seem to have tried everything I can think of, and the controller I use for the steam link just will not control anything with Fallout 3. FO3 only responds to keyboard and mouse for me. The game is running fine! It's just the steam, xbox 360 AND ps4 controllers do nothing.

I have tried launching it with my keyboard and mouse and then taking over from there. No dice.

I have downloaded, installed and used FOSE to launch the game to no noticeable difference.

I renamed the FOSE launcher to FalloutLauncher and renamed the old FalloutLauncher to something else. Messed with permissions on the launchers. Switched it back to the old way.

At this point I'm out of ideas.

For those of you that got this to work, what did you do?!?! Details please. I'm on windows 8.1. Will probably upgrade soon, but hopefully it will either still work or I can just troubleshoot when I need to. Thanks in advance!

I kept looking and found a fix. I didn't think of this before, but there was a problem with the steam overlay. I checked to see if it was working (shift + tab) and it was not. After plenty of searching I found this

yeah, it happened to me. I'm not really sure how I fixed it. But try this:
copy another fose_loader.exe to your game folder, but don't rename it.
set ONLY fose_loader.exe to run as admin(not the one you renamed), remove any compatibility mode from fallout3 or falloutlauncher.
Run the game through steam. (play button)
I did that and for some reason, when I launched the game for a second time the steam overlay and the hours were showing up again.

I also have no idea why this works, but now I can use a controller with steam link. FYI for anyone else having this problem. FO3 Works finally.
Hi guys. I'm kinda new to all this steam stuff (just figured out BPM means Big Picture Mode!) :-)

So I've got the steam controller, and I cannot get it to work with FO3.. I just recently got FO3 to not crash in Windows 10 by installing some launcher tool. Wonder if this is the same thing?

Anyone else got this working? If it is a new loader that is needed- where do we get this loader, and will this new loader also prevent the FO3 crash with WIndows 10?
Ok, it's one of those times where I answered my own questions..

Here's what I did, in case this helps someone else:
I went into the [install drive]\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 3\ directory, then right-clicked on FalloutLauncher.exe, selected Compatibility tab, removed compatibility mode option, removed "Run as Administrator" option, and that was that.

Now the steam controller works in Fallout 3.. Then, I selected the most popular community mapping, and now I'm in the game with steam controller awesomeness! Yay!
Thanks rridley and SweetCheat!
Cant believe this guys, it works. I already gave up trying to play with the controller and when I was about to uninstall...

Seriously to the OG poster u are the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ G.O.A.T thank you so much this is my favourite fallout game and now I can finally play the way I'm used to
This is so annoying why cant steam just get thinks to work.
I have been trying for over 1 hour now to play fallout 3 with steam link.

It feels like gaming these days is just like work. You have to get everything fixed somehow just for it to work normally.

I think I rather get a switch 2 and stop playing steam games on my tv this is way to annoying
