Steam Link

Steam Link

[Feature request] A permanent list of used computers
Hello Steam Support team,

I would like to suggest a small usability improvement for the Steam Link app (Android, Linux, decktop/Steam Deck) related to the wake-from-sleep (wake on LAN) functionality.

Actually, Steam Link supports waking a PC from sleep (when you try to connect to turned-off PC), but this only works for the PC which was used last. If I want to use more than one PC, the app only allows switching them by network scanning. Which makes it impossible to wake up the specific PC. This creates a UX dead end where the feature exists but is inaccessible.

Allowing Steam Link to permanently remember several previously paired PCs (for example, the last 2–5 computers) would solve this issue and make the wake on LAN feature reliably accessible.

From a safety and user-control perspective, this could be complemented with simple options such as:

- manually removing individual remembered PCs,

- clearing the list of remembered computers,

- or optionally disabling PC remembering entirely.

This would keep the feature safe while significantly improving usability, especially for users with multiple or occasionally used PCs.

Hope you will consider my suggestion about this improvement to the Steam Link app.

Also, for Steam Deck (Steam Frame possibly?) use case scenario, it allows streaming the game from another PC, but this feature, again, suggests that the PC is already running. Wake on LAN could be useful for this scenario.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best regards

Oh, i want this so bad, and i couldn't have explain it better.
+1
link hardware and link apps do that

what link devices are you using?

on steam desktop, you can add link clients or remove all link clients
steam -> settings -> remote play
[pair steam link]
[unpair devices]

or steam desktop clients on the same acct can stream games to/from each other
they are not listed, since they are both logged into the same steam acct

to change the name of your pc on windows
winkey + r -> SystemPropertiesComputerName -> [change]
and reboot when done

Hello, thank you for commenting!

I'm not sure if we are talking about the same thing :) I am talking about the "Steam Link" app on Android, Linux, SteamOS. I have it installed on Nvidia Shield, my Android smartphone and tablet. And my issue is that I have more than one computer to connect my "Steam Link" app to.

I have my Steam Client on Steam Deck and my PC, and using the "Steam Link" app I can connect to said devices. Current situation is that when I have connected to one of them, "Steam Link" app remembers only that computer, and can wake it from LAN next time.

But when I want to wake my other computer, it is not listed in "Steam Link" app. You see, "Steam Link" app is only capable to remember the last connected PC, or search the network for any active PCs running Steam at the moment. My other PC is sleeping/power off/in hibernation, so it cannot be found :(

But if the app could remember my other PCs, it could wake them, because the app can wake them on LAN, if they're sleeping/power off/in hibernation. But only if it was connected through the "Steam Link" app before.

So im not really sure that what you have written is relevant to my topic, because I am talking about a separate app "Steam Link" for Android and Linux/SteamOS :)
