Steam Link

Steam link crashing on startup
I've used steam link once before on this computer to connect my steam deck, but now I am having issues. I connected my steam deck to two other devices with no issue so its not an issue in the deck itself. Whenever I try to connect it in the Steam link application it says Steam unavailable, so I tried to connect it through the steam remote play, but it just opens the client, shows the loading screen, and then shuts down. I tried restarting my computer, my steam deck, turning off the hardware decoding, turning off my firewalls, unistalling and reinstalling both steam and the steam link app, using the beta version of steam on both the devices, genuinely everything. Since I am trying to stream to my mac I can't (easily) use a cord and I have been driving myself insane. Does anyone know how to fix this or is there a mysterious issue with my laptop?

What version of macOS are you running? macOS 10.13 and 10.14 can only stream locally, since a Steam infrastructure upgrade. macOS 10.15 and newer work with the latest app update.

Also, because Apple's OS versioning scheme is insanity-inducing what with the change from "macOS 10.xx" to "macOS 11" in 2020 with Big Sur and then the jump to bring everything to 26 (macOS, iOS, visionOS, tvOS...) with Tahoe this past fall: macOS 10.13 is High Sierra (from 2017), macOS 10.14 is Mojave (from 2018).

Anything from Catalina (released in 2019) onwards should be fine, based on slouken's post.
