Steam Link

Steam Link

Many no-name controllers are dysfunctional with steam link
I have 3 controllers, a steam link and a windows computer with steam. all controllers run well on the windows. only one of the controllers work with my steam link. the others sort of get recognized, but no inputs are read.

I am wondering what is so hard about making these controllers work? doesnt steam have xinput, steam input and various additional input related drivers?

what could i do about it? except buying a fourth controller, which i will do when steam controller 2 is out ;)

whats so hard is that the hardware link has a very old linux kernel/system in it and any new controller has to be added manually before being recognised. its 10 years old now.

What controllers do you have?

Some (many) controllers provide their own drivers on Windows, but not on Linux. In that case, unless Steam itself (or rather, SDL3, which Steam uses for its controller input layer) contains the drivers, it's not necessarily going to work on other platforms unless it acts like a generic Xbox controller.

But yeah, like slouken asked... what controllers, and how are you connecting them? (Wired, wireless dongle, Bluetooth, etc.) That'd help to know what's going on with your specific controllers.
