Steam Link Hardware games are now slow
Been using the Steam Link Hardware to stream to my living room TV for years. I use an ethernet connection from my office computer. Everything used to be zippy and fast. Games worked great. I use PS3 controllers via bluetooth. About 6 months ago games started running slowly. Connection seems fine and the overlay says its putting out 60fps, but the game is slow. Note, the game runs fast on the PC, but switch over to the streamed version and it is slow. Not dropping frames or stuttering, just slow like its running in molasses. Sound effects don't match up with video at times. I feel like a Steam Link patch broke something in the Steam Link Hardware setup.

I have checked all the usual suspects for network speed. Hardware encoding, screen resolution, checked router settings, Windows networking in Private mode, all that stuff. Nothing makes a difference. I can't find good info about this issue online either.

Family uses it for Wingspan and Sunderfolk. They are now PAINFUL to play because of the slow gameplay and mis-matched sound. Anyone else with this issue or a solution?

did you get a new router, or something change on the host pc?

check the streaming log
..\steam\logs\streaming_log.txt

it may have some clues
if network is over 1ms, then its using steams internet relays and your internet upload+download instead of direct connection
make sure windows network is set to private not public
disable any vpn
steam -> settings -> remote play -> allow direct = all/auto/my not disabled
if using wifi, check router settings, disable wifi isolation for the ssid you use

sound out of sync, could be drivers on the host pc
get the latest drivers from the oem or mobo mfg site for chipset, audio, lan, wifi/bt or other
The above advice is all good. I'd also note that if you can throw the streaming_log.txt from your host machine up somewhere -- or if you have ssh enabled on the Link, the /mnt/scratch/log/S99steam file from the Link -- that will potentially have useful information in it.
Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll post the streaming_log.txt file later tonight.
Here's a snip from the streaming_log.txt for the most recent session hopefully the experts here can provide some insight:

Solution!!
Certain games had Vsync turned on. It was fighting with the internal Vsync in Steam Link causing the slowdown. Turning off Vsync solved the problem.
Yes, I had the same problem and Vsync was the work around.
Oh, that would DEFINITELY do it. Maybe we should add that one to a FAQ somewhere, since a manual vsync that doesn't match the streaming framerate will quite likely cause problems...
