Local SteamOS for the Link?
I guess Native Apps is the best place to put this. I was thinking that some trimmed down version of SteamOS and BigPicture could be installed onto the Link which would allow browsing of the internet, friends, community ect without a connection to a PC. Maybe even add the ability to play videos and MP3s from USB storage. With the browser you would also be able to get youtube, Netflix and other browser based streaming sites. The "Library" button could be replaced with a "Connect" or "Link" button and would open connection options. Also with settings menu dealing with Link settings and BP related stuff.

Is this even possible? I know the Link has a 500 MB internal storage, ARM processor, and it wouldnt have to do game related stuff. Honestly something like that would be perfect for this device.

It doesn't have enough memory to run chromium or webkit. Steam big picture is chromium based.
It can run midori though, but that is able to explode in memory depending on the visited web site..
But most webbrowsers these days are bloat. You need at least 1GB of memory to browse a popular site.
The only thing that can work and is ported more or less is kodi... or any other non-webbrowser based media browser.
What it probably *is* capable of is smoothly running GTA for android in 720p, or netflix android

But to get back: I can run netflix website on my main pc, and watch it on my link without visual artifacts, and I am very picky about encoding artifacts... Worked with digital media since 1992 and once you see them, you will learn to recognize them and everything will be spoiled :-(.

You cannot. Steam has no ARM client. To add to this, the repository does not contain ARM packages either.

Thanks for the info. DirtyCamper I watch Netflix over it too and love it. It's just my pc takes around 5 minutes to start up and I don't like keeping it on all day. But I'll look into improving the startup time. Also, I am sending you a friend request, I have a question that would be off topic here but I think you might know how to answer it.
