Quest Pro - video shifting/stuttering outside eye focal view
Hello, I've recently updated the software on the Quest Pro and since then these stutters started to happen right outside the circle of where the eye is focusing. I was hoping the gpu drivers were the culprit but a full DDU did nothing.

this only seems to happen when the framerate is below the screen refreshrate. Opening the steamvr dashboard sends video at the refreshrate again and that looks fine again, back in the game it again doesnt.

I tried recording a video butit wont show up on it. I'm out of ideas.

Anything I can attempt to fix this? It was perfect before the QPro got updated...

specs if needed:
ryzen 5800x3d
rx 6800 xt
64gb

It was perfect so idk if drivers are the cause

Hi,
Is this happening with both SteamVR Beta and the default branch?
I'm mainly using the Beta branch, though last night I was manually fiddling with the encoding settings in steamvr and it eventualy kind of improved by itself? I'm unsure if this somehow got fixed by doing just that, so I will give it a more thorough try tonight and see if I can find something that could possibly be a culprit.

I will let you know once I have more information.
Greetings, I am suffering from identical issue on my Quest 3. It is exactly the same down to a T. Lemem copy/paste the description of the issue from my post elsewhere:

"On 18th of January, meta did something that fluffed up the Steam Link for me. The outer edges of view have begun to jitter, as if every third frame wanted to be a little more to the left/right than the rest.
The edges in the left eye jitter to the right and the edges in right eye jitter to the left. See attached image I quickly made in windows paint (crude, aye, but gets the job done).
I did try using Virtual Desktop instead, alas the graphical quality has taken a huge dive, with compression artefacts everywhere despite the highest possible bitrate settings and quality set to Ultra.
Im using Meta Quest 3 connected to PC via Steam Link (all updated to newest version), 3080Ti GPU and dedicated 5GHz router connected directly to my PC with Steam Link being set to 225mb bitrate data transfer rate."

Id add an image showing the details, however there is no way for me to upload it besides sharing an imgur link: https://i.imgur.com/s7U1Eie.jpeg
Just like the Original Post stated, entering the SteamVR overlay stops the jittering, but leaving the overlay makes it start again. I did try both the latest beta and latest stable builds, and there is no difference, the issue persists. I did reinstall Steam Link, alas that didnt help either. It happens both in SteamVR Home mountain room, VRchat, and VR Outer Wilds game. The less framerate I have in VR, the more intense the stuttering/jittering effect is.
I'm interested in taking a look - do you think it would be possible to take a screen recording of what you're seeing to upload here (if it does show in a screen recording)?
When using the record function on the quest itself it didn't show up on the video, I will try and see if using screen recording over ADB would work capturing it.

Greetings, I too tried to take recording using the SteamVR View, however it didnt show up in the recording, only on the headset side. I then went to record a video from the lens itself using my phone, but alas the recording was too blurry and un-focused. I will try again once I figure hout how to set the headset to not go into sleep mode if I take it off.
Managed to get a recording using my phone after a rather amusing setup. If you filter out the black flickering, you will be able to see the jitter, especially on the left side of the tool rack and the lower half of the ring-like object:

yessss it looks just like that, for me on the quest pro it's right outside where I'm looking
I can confirm that the stuttering/jittering happens only if the framerate of the app is lower than the refresh rate set for the app by the headset. I managed to migitate the issue by hard-setting the refresh rate 27 fps for the apps I use (VRchat, and Outer Wilds VR mod in my case). However that is only a temporary workaround as low FPS is really not good for enjoyable experience. We can only hope that either Meta or Steam Link devs will push out a fix soon. I will most likely buy Steam Frame the moment it hits the store, because I cant be bothered by Meta fluffiin' things up with every update. Id revert to last stable firmware (v84 i think?), alas there is no way to do that.
I think I have found something that can help find the cause. I had the remote debug window open and I noticed, when the stutters happen there are loads of spikes in the graph right in the middle. When I walked somewhere else in vr where it didn't cause the odd frame stuttering it didn't do any of those spikes.

I was in vrchat in a world with a bunch of people so framerate was around 25-35fps I think. Is this useful maybe?
ohhh, weird, manually turning down the bitrate seems to fix it... is this yet another issue with the amd gpu encoding? aghhhhh
ah wait, no, you woffle got an nvidia gpu, okay...

Yeah, its a Geforce 3080, but do not despair, I sent a bug report to steam link support and they replied that they forwarded the issue to the devs. Hopefully tehy will find the cause of this jittering. Doesnt happen in Virtual Desktop.
o hm, weird, I definitely dont want to give VD any money though, hoping itll get fixed
