BUG REPORT-VRChat Hand and View Locked on Meta Quest with Latest Steam Link / Beta Versions
Hey everyone,

I recently noticed that VRChat on my Meta Quest 3 has some serious issues when using the latest Steam Link or Beta versions.

Here’s what happens:

My hand controllers are stuck at head height.
The VR view is basically locked; I can’t look up, down, or sideways.

What I’ve tested:

SteamVR Home works fine.
Other VR games like No Man’s Sky also work correctly.
Using Virtual Desktop instead of Steam Link fixes the problem entirely.

My observation:
Rolling back to older Steam Link versions temporarily fixes VRChat, but The older Steam Link versions that used to work now have the same version number as the current release, so even if I try to use them, they get auto-updated to the broken version.

I’m wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problem. It seems like a compatibility issue between VRChat and the newest Steam Link/Beta builds on Meta Quest.

Would love to hear if others have the same experience or any workarounds!

Hm. Can you confirm the specific version numbers you have for SteamVR itself and for the Steam Link app? (Just to check if you're using the Steam Link from the store, or the beta bundled with SteamVR for sideloading, or what.)

Thanks for the reply.

I’ve confirmed that both versions 2.0.20 and 2.0.21 are experiencing the same issue, whereas version 2.0.19 was working perfectly fine.

It seems I’m not alone—I just noticed another user posted about the exact same problem in the Steam VR discussion board:
steamcommunity.com/app/250820/discussions/3/798965575663559455/

This strongly suggests the issue is tied to the recent updates.
Thanks! Just wanted to make sure -- I have sometimes assumed things about what version someone was on, and come to regret it.

I suspect we'll find more folks with the issue over in the SteamVR forums, so I'll try to follow up in general over there.
having this issue, steam let me use a previous branch version of steam vr that worked ok with version 2.0.20 of steam link at the time before they took 2.0.20 away from the headsets
What is your host system, anyway? And if you're having that problem, you may want to post a follow-up on the thread over on the SteamVR forums -- since I never got a reply there, I had assumed that problem had gone away for that person.

I'm gonna put my Valve person hat on here for a moment, and note that the more information you can provide about your system when reporting things, the easier it is to try to reproduce the error (and hopefully fix it).

For instance, the latest Quest client and the latest SteamVR beta together work fine for me in VRChat for tracking, but I have no idea if my test machine bears any resemblance to yours.
