Steam Link forcing AAC Bluetooth codec instead of SBC
Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with Steam Link where it seems to force my Bluetooth Nothing CMF buds to use the AAC codec, even though I specifically want to use SBC.

When I use my y700 tablet normally, I can use SBC without any issues selected via dev options. However, as soon as I launch Steam Link, the Bluetooth connection switches to AAC and shows the change within the dev options with no way to change back while Steam Link is used.

Is there a setting in Steam Link, Steam, or the Bluetooth configuration that can prevent Steam Link from forcing AAC and make it use SBC instead?

I’ve already checked the usual Bluetooth/audio settings, but I can’t find an option to choose the codec specifically for Steam Link which I want to try because sbc is apparently lower latency.

Has anyone else experienced this, or found a way to force Steam Link to use SBC rather than AAC?

Thanks!

Steam Link doesn't explicitly ask for any codec -- it just asks for a specific *quality*, and will ask for low-latency audio or just general system audio.

So I'm afraid whatever's picking the codec for you is probably part of the system.

You could try playing around with the audio quality settings in Steam Link? Toggle Low-Latency Audio on if it's off (or off if it's on), etc.

I can't reproduce this problem here, but I also don't have a Y700 tablet specifically. :/
