Steam Link on Raspberry Pi 5 (Trixie) – Some Games Fail To Start
I am using Steam Link on a Raspberry Pi 5 with Raspberry Pi OS Trixie, but it does not work properly. Some games fail to launch or stream correctly. For example, Balatro does not work.

I installed Steam Link using the command:

sudo apt install steamlink

My host PC has an AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT graphics card.

Has anyone experienced similar issues with Raspberry Pi OS Trixie or Raspberry Pi 5? Are there any fixes or recommended settings?

Firstly, if you can get streaming_log.txt (from the host PC, in the 'logs' directory under your Steam install), that'll help a bit in diagnosing what might be wrong.

Secondly, just to humor me -- if you temporarily turn off hardware encoding on the host PC, does it stream Balatro properly? Alternatively, if you leave it on but try streaming to the Steam Link app on your smartphone (or really, anywhere else), does *that* work?
It still doesn’t work even when I turn off hardware encoding on the host PC. I also tried streaming using the Steam Link app on my smartphone. Balatro still doesn’t work, but other games like Moonlighter stream fine.
Which phone are you using? I'd be curious to try reproducing it.

EDIT: Also, I'd be curious what happens if you turn off HEVC, just for purposes of logfile comparison.
I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S23 with Android 16. I just turned off HEVC in the Steam Link app on my phone, and now Balatro is working.
I don’t know what happened, but Balotro still isn’t working on my phone, even though HEVC is turned off. It used to work before.

Is it launching on the host PC and just not streaming, or is it failing to launch entirely?
It doesn’t launch on the host PC, but it appears as if it’s launching. After the “Launching executable” screen, it returns to the Steam interface, and nothing happens even when I press the Resume button. When I exit Big Picture mode on the host PC, Steam shows Balatro as if it’s running. Even though it says “Running” in green, the game isn’t actually open on the host PC.

Does it launch normally on your PC when not streaming?
Yes it launches normally when I'm not streaming on my PC. Before Balatro launches, a short loading screen also appears. When I try to stream Balatro, this short loading screen does not appear either.
