“FPS style” Mouse Input on iPad / iPadOS
When Steam Link first brought mouse and keyboard support to the iPad last year, the patch notes on the App Store specifically said “Added support for new mouse and keyboard functionality on iOS 13.4 (direct mouse control only, FPS style input not available yet)”

As far as I know, that kind of mouse input was added as part of iOS/iPadOS 14, also last year, and the Steam link app hasn’t updated to support it. This leads to problems in games where moving your cursor to the edge causes another element to pop in (notification center, slide over, etc). Is there anything on the horizon that signals that these new APIs will be implemented, even in an upcoming beta? I’m not saying this as a “you’re competing with this other app” sort of thing, but I know Moonlight updated for these new controls and now captures the mouse as expected, so I’m hoping to see that implemented in Steam Link as well.

Thanks, and thanks to the devs for all their hard work!

I appreciate the quick turn-around on this!

However, it doesn’t seem to work in games. In Big Picture Mode it works great, I can smash my mouse to each side of the screen and nothing happens. But when I actually launch a game, all the same issues pop up. This is true whether the game is in full screen or borderless windowed. Any ideas?

Do you have a monitor connected to your PC and turned on? I ran into focus issues when the monitor was disconnected.

I do. My setup is exactly the same as when I’m in front of my computer and playing, only I’m in bed with my iPad.

What game are you testing with?

I must admit, my primary focus for this is with Final Fantasy XIV. It looks like the mouse capture does work correctly for actual FPS games (tested with Doom 2016 and Just Cause 2, just because they were installed). But FFXIV with its actual cursor doesn’t lock it in. But it seems like it should be able to since the Big Picture menu locks in its cursor exactly as expected.

I know it’s probably not super helpful, but I did wind up making a screen recording of what I’m seeing, if there’s an easy way to get that to you. And I can provide any other details or logs you may want.
Okay, that makes sense. Currently this mode is only enabled for games that hide the cursor and use relative mouse motion. When the game shows the cursor, it's freed for interaction with the OS.

Well, that makes sense. Is that something that’s going to be on the horizon? Would probably be useful to lock the cursor to the stream no matter what game is playing.
I’d also like to know what’s happening with this. Would love to play new world on my iPad
Any chance of an update on this? Works fine on Android.
