I can't believe we've been in our home for 3 years now! I've only lived in one place this long after leaving home at 18. 3 years have gone by very quickly and I'm lucky that I've had Doug to spend the time with! I sure love our house....Although, I do think of how much money we would have if we didn't have a mortgage :).Friday, September 30, 2011

Frustrations
Do you:
Scream or yell?
Lift weights?
Clean?
Work on projects?
Run?
Cry?
Go for a walk?
Eat or don’t eat?
Vent to a friend or family member?
Read?
Sleep or can't sleep?
I have frustrations that have been consuming me lately. I generally have a filter when some people are around, but I’m about to lose it. I was talking to Doug’s sister, Debbie, recently and we were talking about how patient Doug is and we laughed because I get annoyed easily (it really got me thinking about it) and then we were talking on Saturday about my filter. She was asking if I have a filter around her; I do have a slight filter around Doug’s family – but I’m lucky that they love me even when I have unfiltered moments. I don’t have a filter around my own family, but I know many people are not like my own family. I know some people are sensitive.
I feel bad that I seem to get annoyed easily and I’m usually really good about recognizing my own emotions and putting myself in check, but I have a very hard time dealing with stupidity and/or the lack of common sense. I also don’t deal well with pity parties or people who slam their head into walls and wonder why it hurts. Some things have happened at work lately that make me feel bad, sad and confused too. But, I’m just going to show up, do my job the best I can and then rinse and repeat as necessary. Hopefully things will work themselves out.
I have done all of the above activities when it comes to my frustrations and anger lately. Unfortunately, there are some people who have had to hear about my crap over and over and over again. And even worse is that Doug is the closest person to me and gets the brunt of my crap. For that I am truly sorry. I really hope I can shake this soon because I really hate feeling this way and I’m sick of hearing myself talk about it all the time, so I can’t imagine how other people around me are feeling. Deep breaths, new air in, old air out, remember what is important in life and this too shall pass, right??

Birthday Party and Candy Corn
This was the cookie decorating table; it ended up being quite a messy table, but the kids had a lot of fun.
I stopped at Target on the way home and bought some really, really cute fuzzy socks.
If you didn’t know, I love candy corn. I like the regular kind, not the chocolate candy corn and I love the pumpkins too (probably more than the candy corn)! I can’t wait until the weather is cool enough to wear them.
I was looking for a picture of the socks online and I found these shoes!!!
OH.MY.HECK.
UFL Game
It was fun, but we always have fun with Ben and Breanna! Doug and Ben were at a sporting event and reading about sports on their phones. HAHA.
Breanna and I were watching the cheerleaders and the mascot. PS, the guy behind us in the picture should have phot bombed us!!
As a mascot, he was pretty lazy. All he did was walk around and then sat down at one point. I didn't see him running, jumping and whatever a mascot should to to get the crowd loud and excited.
but the cheerleaders had really shiny, sparkly gold pompoms so they were eyecatching. (I'm sure they were eyecatching to the men in the crowd for other reasons.)
Doug said the visiting team won the championship the last 2 years, so it was going to be a difficult team to beat. We decided to leave early and when we were walking to the car, we heard the local team get a touchdown…figures they waited until we left :). These are fireworks from the touchdown earlier in the game:
The local team still lost though. I need to get some fancy orange gloves like this guy:
We had Ben and Breanna over for dinner on Friday. Our plan was to eat spaghetti, go out for frozen yogurt and then play Super Mario on Wii. We had spaghetti (Breanna makes very yummy spaghetti by the way), we went out for soupie yogurt (it wasn’t quite frozen) and then we watched Kitchen Nightmares on tv. Gordon Ramsay is always good for a laugh when he’s yelling at people. Thanks for another fun evening!

Some Perspective
Saturday morning we made chocolate chip pancakes, which we understand is a Saturday tradition for them. Doug rolled up their sleeping bags since I had a really hard time the last time, then we headed back to their house because Aaron had football practice. I feel bad because a couple of the pictures Lydia made for Bonnie didn’t make it home with her and Doug was very helpful cleaning up, but they got thrown out.
On my way home I was talking with a friend about a very sad situation because she’s been working with a birth mother for about 7 months and after labor (my girlfriend held the birth mom’s legs), giving birth (my girlfriend cut the cord), and having the nurse hand the baby to my friend to hold him first since she was going to be the baby’s mom….she decided not to give her baby up for adoption. It’s so sad. I completely understand that people can change their minds, but wow. She took the coward way out and didn’t even sit down and talk with my friend about it; she had the caseworker call and tell her. The worst part about the adoption system is that women can take $1000’s from adoption services and not have to pay a penny back. These women are not held accountable for their actions and for the money they have, more or less, stolen from these agencies. My friend said that the agencies don’t want to make women pay the money back if they change their mind because fewer women would put their babies up for adoption. I think it would make these women think twice about trying to scam the system and it would certainly make them think very hard about what they are doing. I know suing people isn’t the answer for everything, but I really hope my friend gets an attorney to get all their lost money back. At this point it was a business transaction that the birth mom failed to follow through with. (I know there’s a baby involved and emotions involved, so it’s more complex than that, but it still doesn’t lessen the fact that she’s taken money for something that didn’t happen).
After talking with my friend for about an hour, I went into the hospital to drop off a poster board the kids made for Brian. Brian has been in so much pain. It’s amazing what the human body can handle and especially what Brian has been able to handle. I don’t know if I could ever be as strong as Brian. He has a beautiful family that he’s fighting for and it really puts the in’s and out’s of daily life into perspective. I’ve been dwelling on some things lately and then there’s Brian, who just wants to have a drink of water (although he would prefer Pepsi), let alone a drink of water without throwing it up from pain. He has been throwing up and passing blood clots too, they did a procedure last week where they ran a camera through his arteries to see if they could find where the bleeding was coming from.
We all want him to get well so badly.
I think Stan (Doug’s dad) said he’s lost just over 60 pounds to date.
Through it all, Brian still has a sense of humor. We were talking about random things and we got on the subject of fishing. Doug and his dad were talking about fishing with minnows/worms and through Brian’s nausea and pain he said, “Gimme my worm back!” I guess Stan used to say that when a fish would steal his worm from the hook. We had a good giggle. I don’t know why that simple sentence stuck with me, but it did.
Keep the prayers and positive thoughts coming!! He needs to be strong enough in order to have the next round of chemo on Thursday.

Friday Night Races
It was championship night and they had the sidecars racing too. It was exciting because the racers were going all out to win the championship – which led to crashes and accidents.
I started cheering, “Crash! Crash!” Some racers were being disqualified and you could see them getting frustrated. One guy started doing donuts in the middle of the track on his way out of the race.
Look at these cute little guys go!! The little girl in front won the race:
Then a Harley came out to race:
He crashed too:
Here are the sidecars at the starting line. The green one crashed in a previous race (picture above):
It was a nice evening out, the weather was perfect and we saw a beautiful sunset and even some rain in the distance. OH and the county fair was next to the races –
I love the ferris wheel.
Happy Accident
I painted primer on part of the wainscoting and then wanted to see if the Magic Eraser sponges would work instead. It worked a little so I was a little bummed that I painted the other portion of the wall. I got a wet washcloth and tried to wipe the primer off the wall. Much to my surprise it wiped not only the primer off, but the existing paint as well. Wiping the top half off:
YAY! I was really dreading trying to find a white paint to match and/or repainting all of it.
The last step is to give the wall a dirty look and say, "Take that JERK!!!"

Pink is Now Purple
This was the pink room...now it's a purple/blue/grey color.
We still need to paint over the trees
YAY! One project is almost finished! When we finish this room we have to put everything back and then fill it with everything from the other room so we can begin painting again. More Commuting
I love this time of year because the sun starts coming up a little later:
I love watching the sunrise and sunset.
