Why Mother's Day Didn't Stink this year.

Every year I have these great expectations of what Mother's Day should be: I sleep in while my husband and children quietly make a nice breakfast for me to enjoy in bed. The children behave perfectly for the entire day. They listen to me the first time and do not argue with me or fight with each other. Each member of my family gives me a wonderful and thoughtful gift. I do not have to lift a finger for anything all day. No cooking, no cleaning, no wiping noses or butts. This year, I decided to let ALL OF THAT GO because every year I am sorely disappointed with the way things go. Getting my kids up in the morning is almost always a challenge. We have 8:30 church so Mother's Day was no exception. I literally had to dress Noah WHILE he laid in bed. I wish I had a bull horn. I feel like the least the kids could do is do what I ask them to do so we can get ready for church, but evidently even that was too much to ask. Anyway we did make it to church just in time and that is when I told Greg that those 3 children were HIS for the duration of Sacrament meeting. One of my favorite things about Mother's Day is when the Primary children get up to sing a song about moms. And guess what? I have THREE Primary kids this year! However, the boy that I mentioned earlier refused to go up and sing for me BOOOOO! But the other two did and it was wonderful. Our Third hour Relief Society meeting was great as well. We had these delicious cupcakes with mile-high frosting on them. And our lesson was carefully prepared by our Bishop. After church we went to my parents for lunch. That is when Greg presented me with my gift: A full day at the spa. This includes a 1-hour massage, 1-hour facial, Shellac mani and pedi, spray tan and lunch! My mom got one too so we can go together! The kids each made me a leather bracelet (with help from papa). Each one says "I Love Mom". They are super cute, just like my kiddos. The older two also made me some things at school. Olivia gave me some "coupons" for things she will help out with around the house. Noah gave me a flower pot with a paper flower in it and his picture. At the bottom it says "Mom, you are my sunshine." Olivia and Noah also each wrote me a letter. At church each of the kids made balloon ping pong sets that came with Hershey Kisses. The kids enjoyed reading the letters that I wrote to them and I have decided to make this a tradition every year. I even wrote a letter to my hubs which he seemed to enjoy greatly. So, when my expectations were high, Mother's Day was pretty stinky. But this year when I wasn't expecting much, what I received was a very blessed day.
