Miss Caroline

So Caroline is talking to her Dad after dinner and says that she read about Susan B. Anthony at school today. Scott asked her to tell us about her. She talked about how Susan B. Anthony was angry because women couldn't vote, own property, etc... and how she helped pave the way for equal rights. At the end of her spiel she added, "I also got to see a picture of her and she would NOT win any beauty contest!" Funny girl.

Think me harsh?

As some of you know, my van was broken into last week. They not only ripped open the door handle and damaged the van's body. They stole all of my DVD players that I saved for over a year to buy AND Scott's portable DVD player that he won in a raffle at work. I was really, I mean REALLY mad about this. I was already kind of feeling down because of a speeding ticket I got in Las Vegas three days before. Then today, I get a notice in the mail saying that I'm in violation of city code blah, blah, blah because my trash cans were seen from the curb. And if I don't contact the Upland Police Dept. within ten days to arrange for an inspection by an Upland police officer OR the matter will be turned over to the city prosecutor. Oh excuse me? The Upland PD can notice that my trash cans are visible from the curb, but NOT notice that my van is being broken into and ripped off?! I did do something that made me feel a little better though. I went online and ordered a custom made bumper sticker. It came today and is now on the back bumper of my van. It reads: "If You're The Scumbag That Broke Into My Van. Know That I Pray Daily For Your Swift And Painful Death". It was the best $4.99 I've ever spent.

The Day After

The day after general conference weekend is always so strange. It doesn't ever really feel like we even HAD a weekend. You can't get anything of significance done around the house or in the yard, because you HAVE to watch conference! I do enjoy conference. A sign that I'm actually a grown up. But I also feel like I'm going to have to endure a pop quiz about it over the next few weeks. "Oh didn't you just LOVE Elder so and so's talk? Which one was YOUR favorite? etc..." I got several emails with the attachments for general conference packets for the kids to do during conference. Nice idea, but at 15 pages per packet, times four is a lot of paper and ink. Besides, last year I did print them out and then completely forgot about them until AFTER conference. One of the upsides of conference is that on Sunday we got to have a full on cooked breakfast. Complete with bacon, sausage, grits, eggs, toast and juice. Everyone was stuffed, but it didn't stop my kids from asking 30 minutes later, "What's for dinner?" In case you're wondering, we had Hawaiian Haystacks. After dinner, we all settled in the living room and watched "Hair Spray". We got to about the last 20 minutes of the movie when Caroline came in (she decided that she wanted to go to bed early) and said that she had thrown up on her bed. So we stopped the movie and Scott cleaned up the bed and carpet in her room and I cleaned up Caroline and started a load of laundry. After scrubbing and Febreezing Jason and Caroline's room, we opened the window and shut the door to their room. J and C slept on the sectional in the living room. Caroline, with a garbage can next to her head. Today, after much encouragement. By encouragement I mean threatening, to get my kids out of bed. They ALL went to school. As for me, I treated myself to a McDonald's deluxe breakfast. Life IS good.
