Splish Splash

Splish splash I was taking a bath..long about a Saturday night!Last night we had a Fish Fry with our Church group. It turned out to be a breezy evening full of friends, great catfish (fried by my sweetie) and lots of kids running around having a blast. Thanks to Heather for planning a great event!!! Needless to say, all four of us were sweaty when we got home. The boys had as much fun cleaning up as they did getting dirty! haha

SPT - Something Borrowed

Ever since I found out the topics for May's SPTs, I have been looking forward to this one... it all started at the January Ladies Night Out at church when we each shared a "fun fact" about ourselves. One of my friends shared that she and her husband are addicted to the TV show Lost. Jason had mentioned that he wanted to watch the DVDs of Lost, so I asked her if we could borrow the DVDs. Thus started our obsession...

For the last 3 months we have eaten a WW ice cream bar and watched at least one episode almost every night... our record being 6 episodes in one night. And yes, these are all viewed after the boys are in bed! So now we are officially Lost nerds! We tune in to Lostpedia.com often, theorize, talk about the canonocity of the show, discuss Jack, Kate, Locke, Sawyer, Sun, Hurley, Charlie and crew as if we are best friends with them. We cry, we laugh, we get mad, we get irritated with "the others" and we are nervous about what will happen next to the survivors of Oceanic flight 815. We wonder about the numbers, the monster, why is future Jack popping pills, and why did Charlie have to die?!?!?

So now we are done with Season 3 and ready for season 4... which will probably be watched on the computer. I have mentioned before that I have a hatred for the TV, and fear not, this is our only show.

But then about a month ago, I had a MAJOR spiritual revelation. I'm not kidding when I say that all we talk about is Lost... we were devoted to Lost. And that bothered me. We know all these fun facts about the show, talk about what is happening and debate theories every, single day. So here is my revelation... are we that way about the Bible? I mean, the Bible IS our guide. It is the Holy Word of God. Were we reading it every night? Were we as devoted to God's story as we were the story of Lost? Could we tell you as many scriptures as we could Lost trivia? Were we as excited for God as we were about Lost? Unfortunately, we did not like our honest answers to these questions.

So Jason and I decided that every night as soon as we laid the boys down we were going to study the Bible together. We started with 1 Timothy and read a chapter a night. We also picked a verse each week to be our memory verse. We've made it through to Titus now. And we have been trying to "live like missionaries" and talk to people about God with the excitement that we talk about our new favorite show.

What changes have I seen? Now we talk about the Bible too! We are praying together as a couple again. And our house seems like a much calmer place. We still love Lost and we still talk about our Lost friends, but our priorities are correct.

So SPT friends... what is your something borrowed? What are you devoted to? What do your families do to keep your priorities focused on our Lord? And, are you addicted to Lost?!?!? :)

SPT - Something New

About a month ago when Jason was in California for a week, I went into "house project" mode. I hung new frames, got a new ceiling fan for the den (thank you mom and dad!), had the light fixture hung in the guest bath that we got for a Christmas present in 2005, re-labeled the spices... you get the picture, I was on a mission! But my favorite project was re-decorating the guest bath/boys bath.

In March 2007 our dear friends Trey and Lacie moved about 6 hours up north. As they were packing up their house, Lacie sent out an email to see if anyone was interested in buying the bathroom stuff that she had recently bought for her boys bathroom. I had not even seen the stuff, but knowing Lacie's tastes, I knew it was adorable!! So I quickly responded yes! For a very, very low price she sold me 2 rugs, shower curtain and hooks, toothbrush holder, cup, trashcan, tissue holder, and 2 framed pictures that she made. It was very hard when they moved and it has taken me this long to be able to get the stuff out of the box and get it hung. So here is our new bathroom!!!

And here are my sweethearts LOVING the jungle decorations!!!

The boys are so funny. They will go into the bathroom and touch the animals on the towels or shower curtain and make the corresponding animal sound. Didn't Lacie do a good job picking this out?!?!? Thanks for passing it down to us - it makes me smile every time we brush teeth, take a bath, etc.

Next week's SPT... something borrowed! Stay tuned!

Dad's Surgery

My Dad had shoulder surgery today. It is the second surgery on the same rotator cuff in 8 years. A sweet friend from church came over today to keep the boys so that Jason and I could go to the hospital. They procedure took about 1 1/2 hours and went went well! Once he got in there, the doctor said it was more torn than he expected , so he put 6 suchers instead of 4. So now Dad will wear a triangular shaped pillow straped to his waist to hold the arm in place (parallel with the ground) 24/7 for two weeks and then will begin rehab.

So as much as GPop loves rocking the boys to sleep...
he'll have to wait for a few more weeks! Please keep Dad's recovery in your prayers and my mom as she is taking care of him! Thanks!

SPT - Something Old

Holly and Lacie have been doing the SPT's for a while and I always love reading their thoughts! SPT stands for Self-Portrait Tuesday. A very neat girl, Lelly, created the SPT's. If I was more tech savvy, I would make her name light up so that you could get to her blog... but I'm not tech savvy! Check out Lacie or Holly and they have her on their SPT for yesterday. Anyway...

Something old... there are so many fun old things around our house to choose from... old mixing bowls from my great aunt that I adore, a painting of bluebonnets that my paternal grandmother painted when I was 2 years old, old furniture, but the "old thing" around our house that brings a smile to my face every day are these...

Blue Ridge Pottery! My Granny (mom's mom) started collecting these Kentucky-made plates before I was born when her sister Iva gave her one with pink dogwood blossoms on it. They are all hand-painted years ago, so no two are exactly alike. Granny picks one up at every antique store she stops in. Some of them are fruit, some are flowers, some have painting on the edges and bumps on the edges too. Granny still has about 20 of her own, but she passed down 7 to me a few years ago. Here's my collection!
What is something old at your house that you love? Come join the SPT bandwagon with me!

Yipee!!!

For the last 9 weeks I have been a faithful Weight Watcher. I followed the rules like an obsessive woman! I discovered that Skinny Cow Cookies-n-Cream ice cream sandwiches are almost as good as Blue Bell. I discovered fruit again! I got a new WW cookbook and love 95% of the recipes. I gave up Dr. Pepper and have survived. And I feel healthier. So where have all these discoveries and obsessions led me? To my 10% weight loss goal plus a little more! Yipee! Last Monday I was .2 pounds away from my 10% goal, so this week I was extra determined. This Monday when I stepped on the scale, I had lost 2.2 pounds for a grand total of 20 pounds gone!!!! So during our meeting I got the coveted 10% key chain. Who knew a little key chain and loose pants could bring me so much joy?!?!?
