24th of July Rodeo

We got our fill of the Enterprise Rodeo for one more year! The boys loved the bull riding, chicken/rabbit chasing and friends to play with under the bleachers. Addie loved playing in the dirt, eating lots of candy and petting the rabbit. Gavin and I are still trying to figure out what we loved about the whole thing. Going to bed at 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning just takes the fun out of it for me! :)

Summer Fun

On the 24th of July we were able to spend the afternoon at the Town Square. It was fun to hang out with cousins, splash in the water and enjoy the 11o degree weather. Well maybe enjoy is a BIG word for 110 degree weather!

What I have learned from baseball...

Last week was a crazy baseball week. Between games, practice and driving to Cedar, we lived, ate and dreamed baseball. Here are a few things I learned over the course of All Star week.

  • Cups with straws will entertain a 15 month old for hours, its a bonus if she can sip the Dr. Pepper once in awhile. (Ya, I know Mother of the year award has gone right out the window.)
  • Dugouts are cool.
  • After 6 baseball games in a 24 hour period it doesn't matter that your child has on mismatched socks. The way I look at it, at least he had socks. (again, award gone.)
  • Little tiny boys in baseball uniforms make me smile and almost feel giddy!
  • Baseball butts are pretty cute, even one of the coaches had a pretty dang nice one.  :)
  • Like life, baseball seems simple, until you start to play the game. Then a lot seems to be going on at once, signs are given, were they received? Pitches are thrown and you can't second guess. Trusting a coach or a teammate is crucial. Just like how we must trust our family if we are going to make it through our game we call life. There is a lot of pressure to succeed both in baseball and life. We all know we will win some and lose some, but it is the effort/try we make that will teach us the most. That is what creates the heart of a champion.
I was so proud of all the baseball players this week, but mostly I was proud of Gavin. He coached those All Stars with all his might. They ended coming up just short to making the trip to regionals in California, but the lessons WE all learned were priceless. It looks like baseball is here to stay in the Frei home.

Chelsi's Run

A few months ago I was really ready to start running, but had never got around to it. Every night when I went to bed I would think, ok, tomorrow morning I am getting up early and going for a jog. Well, weeks and months went by and I never got up early, so I never went for that jog. Then Gretchen and I became running partners! It was the best thing that ever happened, now I have to get out of bed! We have been running 3 days a week for month now. I am feeling a lot better about myself, my blood pressure has gone down a bit and I ran the whole way in my first 5k! Landon and Cam rode their bikes and loved collecting all the glow sticks runners would drop along the way. I just loved the finish line, and the feeling of accomplishment I had. Can't wait for the next one! I am also looking forward to the day I can go to the pool and not have to wear shorts, because I have "runner" legs!! That will be sweet!

Gone Fishin'

Going to Sand Hollow in the summer time is always a treat. We go with Grandpa and Grandma Hale and have a great time.  The first night we went out with all the fam.  Landon had baseball practice and couldn't go, so the next day Grandpa and Grandma took us (Landon, Preston, Brooklyn, Kason and myself) back out so Landon could get in on the action. We caught some "lunkers" and laughed a lot! Especially when Grandma Katie fell in the lake! She had on a "big dog" and had just got it reeled in when Landon went to cast his pole and threw it in the lake. Grandma being a hero, tried to reach out and grab it, but missed and fell in, white pants and all. The only problem was, I had my video camera in hand, Grandpa Ken was on the phone, Preston was holding the fish in the net. Landon was scared cause he just watched the fishing pole sink to the bottom of the lake, Kason was casting, recasting and recasting trying to catch the big one, and I am not sure where Brooklyn was. (I promise Bradi we all were watching both of them!) Needless to say it was a 3 ring circus there for a minute. We did get a picture of the fish and the drowned Grandma. (see above)  The fish survived the whole ordeal and made it back in the lake after the photo op.  Oh man, Good Times!

Lifelong Friends

Lifelong friends are the best. It can be months or even years since you have seen them last, but some how immediately when you sit down for lunch it seems to just pick up right where it left off. It is always a good day, when old friends get together.

Gunlock

For 29 years I have been going to the Gunlock Rodeo on the 4th of July. It is a great tradition, one I hope to continue with my kids. As a child I remember going to the down to the creek and swimming, I wasn't much of a crawdad or frog catcher, for many reasons... mostly because crawdads pinch and frog jump! I just like hanging in the water and cooling off. Then after taking a dip I can remember throwing on my pants and boots and running the barrels on my horse Chalk. Those were the days! Jessie, you can remember, right?! Well back to the present, or almost present since I am a week or two behind! My boys LOVE the Gunlock rodeo, it is almost better than Christmas, or birthdays. They can't wait to spend 3 long nights at the rodeo, hanging with friends that they only see once a year and catching those frogs (you know the ones I wouldn't touch when I was a kid!) Landon rode a calf for the first two nights then he fell off and bloodied his nose. He chose to pass on the last night, but he did catch a chicken and Preston won the boot race.  That was a lot more than Gavin can say for his roping! ;o)

Happy 4th!

Just a glimpse into some of the fun we have been having this weekend. I love the 4th of July. It is one of my favorite times of the year. We have gone to Green Valley swimming on the 4th twice now, it is a tradition I think I want to keep. Now we are off to the final night of the Gunlock rodeo! It is the perfect place to celebrate our independence of this great country we live in. A small town rodeo with, chicken's to chase, calves to ride, frogs to catch and don't forget about the great family/friends to visit with.  Pictures to come...

Sharing...
Aren't friends the best?!
After football camp last Wednesday, we went over to Gretchen's Mom and Dad's house for a little dip in the pool. It was so nice and refreshing. As you can see Landon is missing from my pictures, because... he had a bit of a meltdown and had to be picked up by his Father. He learned a big lesson that day. (Be kind to others.) Lets just hope he remembers it! I cracked up at the pool picture, it looks like the city pool. I think we all have followed the council to multiply and replenish the earth! Good Times.  :)
