Preschool open house

I can't believe the day has arrived where my baby is ready for preschool! Ready or not, it's here. Tonight we attended Avery's preschool open house. I think I was just as excited as she was! We were able to meet her teachers, see her classroom, and mingle with other families. Avery is ready for this. I know I 'm biased as her parent, but she's a smart cookie! She's ready to learn and socialize and have her own independence. Something that's hers. I've been a stay at home mom with the girls for about 6 weeks now, and while we've had fun, I know Avery is missing out on being with other kids her age. (In other words, I know she's getting a little bored with me and Emme.) On the other hand, this will be a good break for Emmersen and I as well. Avery will be in school on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings which will allow for some one-on-one time with Em. 


Tonight was great! Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful, making us feel very comfortable. The only downfall? Avery can't quite understand why this is only the open house and preschool doesn't actually start for another week and a half!

Thirty

My 30th was a quiet affair, not like the quick, getaway weekend that Aaron and I had once talked about. With Aaron in Washington and the girls in St. Louis for the weekend, I was left with time to shop, get a mani/pedi, read, and see a movie with a girlfriend. Nothing too crazy, just more of a nice break. When I met to pick the girls up today, we stayed and had lunch with my mom and grandma.

Joking aside, today was a lot of fun. My friend Sarah dropped off her 2 girls this morning for a couple hours and I got a taste of what it would be like to have 4 kids, all girls. Audrey, Sarah's oldest, is Avery's best friend. Avery was so excited at the thoughts of having Auds over to play that she could hardly go to sleep last night. These two play so well together and have so much fun; their laughter is extremely contagious! I absolutely loved listening to their giggles from the other room, as if they were lost in their own world. There's a bit more of an age gap between Allie and Emmersen so they played more independently, but still had fun trying to get involved with what the big girls were up to.

From dress up to arts and crafts to bubbles and chalk, I think we did it all today! Here's hoping for some good naps!

Egg carton caterpillar

As I used up the last of the eggs today, for some reason the memory of making caterpillars from egg cartons came back to me. Avery and I gave it a try, and success! She loved it and for about half and hour I felt somewhat like a crafty mom.

I think the girls are just about at that age where they can somewhat play together, even if it is for a short amount of time. This thrills me! I'm sure the squabbling will start soon enough, but for now, watching them interact is so much fun.

My littlest love is growing! Emme is a happy girl who loves to be around her big sister. She's not quite walking but pulling up and getting around as best she knows how.

McLean County Fair

Since being off work for about 2 weeks now, I have quickly discovered that there is much to do during the daytime hours that the girls and I can take advantage of instead of having to wait until the evenings or weekends when everyone else is doing it too. Take for example the McLean County Fair. After breakfast this morning, the girls and I headed over to the fairgrounds and discovered much to do with few people to compete. I'm embarrassed to say that this is the first time I've been to the Fair in the 6 years we've lived here. What a great experience! Fortunately for me, the rides hadn't opened yet so it was a non-issue when walking Avery by them. Instead, we visited many animals, learned all about corn and farming, made a terrarium, played with toy farm machinery in corn, got faces painted, and enjoyed pony rides. Hot, busy morning, but so worth it.

Fun fact: Did you know that McLean County farmers grow more corn and soybeans than any other county in the U.S.?

I didn't know that either but it sure makes me proud to say that I live here.
