URTA Conference

Steven had a very successful trip to Las Vegas at his conference and interviewed with 12 different grad schools! He also had two more schools that wanted him to contact them because they were unable to interview students that day. There have also been a couple schools that have already unofficially given offers and have asked Steven to come check out their campuses. It has been a whirlwind of information to sort through, and a big decision awaits us. Although we were hoping to head closer to Utah, it looks like we will be heading more to the East. There are 2 schools in Illinois, and one in Indiana that Steven really likes so far. However, don't count Arizona out yet...they were one of the schools that was unable to interview students at the conference, so we are still waiting to set something up with them. The schools can start making official offers in about a week and then we will have 3 weeks to accept or decline an offer, which means we should know pretty soon where we will be going. I can't wait!

Wow, How Time Flies

Wow, where has January gone? Lately time has just been flying by. I can't believe it's already a week into February. Life for us has been very busy. Work for me continues to be very busy, and everyone in our department has been working overtime. They recently have been making some changes to our unit and have added another patient room. Despite this sounding like a positive thing for us to have more rooms for more patients, we still are short on nurses to take care of those patients....something our hospital administration doesn't seem to understand. Over the past couple of days our new situation has taught me that you can not be afraid to stand up for yourself and for what you know is right. For me and my coworkers it was standing up to administration and telling them that we would not compromise patient care, safety or our licenses so that we could just keep taking more and more patients. We were finally successful and convinced them to defer patients to another hospital. It felt really good to finally be listened to. Anyhow, that is my rantings about work. As for Steven, he has been crazy busy getting ready for URTA, his theater conference in Las Vegas where he will interview with different Graduate schools. He has been preparing for this since last semester creating a physical portfolio, resume, a web page, and a display board. He's done an awesome job on all of it and we are hoping he will recieve some good offers there. He flies out tomorrow, his interviews will be on Saturday, and then he will fly back on Sunday. However, the down side is it will still be awhile afterwards before the schools can officially give out any assistantships. We are both very anxious to find out where we will be moving to next.
