I came down with that nasty stomach virus this weekend. There is not much I want to remember about the past few days, with the exception of some sweet things that Meredith has said to me. Yesterday when I was resting in bed Meredith snuck in my room and said she wanted to turn on my night light, which is really just my bedside lamp. She said, "I'll turn on your night light for you mommy." and after proudly turning it on she exclaimed, "now there's nothing to be afraid of mommy." It was so sweet. She said that because she has started being afraid of the dark, so I got her a new bright lamp so that she wouldn't be scared.
Then today when I finally felt up to leaving my bedroom Meredith asked me, "are you feeling better mommy?" And a final cute thing said was Meredith telling me that I should take my pajamas off and get dressed like her. She's too precious!

Nana is 91!
Today is my Nana's 91st birthday and we did our best to spoil her this morning! We had a little party right in her room at the nursing home with cake squares from The Brownie Bakery and Nana's favorite, vanilla ice-cream! Nana was gracious enough to let the twins share in opening her gifts. Nana was amazing, she could tell you what the gift was before even opening it. My mom handed her one box and Nana exclaimed in joy, "oh, new shoes!" My Aunt Gwen & Uncle Norman as well as my Uncle Phil all called and joined in the celebration. Nana was so precious talking with my Uncle Phil, when telling him goodbye she told him thank you for being such a good boy and said, "I love you so much."
I know I've bragged on my Nana over and over in posts in the past. It's hard to know how to express my love and the high esteem in which my entire family holds my Nana. I guess the best way to show you what a precious lady she is would be to share a little note I found here in the house. It's a birthday note from my Nana to my Papa dated 1991. The note says, "Tee Wee, A wish for a very happy birthday. May all your dreams come true. It has been fun living. loving, and helping in your wonderful life. I love you. Irene." And enclosed in the card is a check written out to Tee Wee (that was my Papa's nickname) written out for "love and a happy life." That about sums it up, that's the sweet heart of the woman I'm blessed to call my Nana. She has devoted her life to loving her family and living out an example of a Godly wife and mother to her children, grandchildren, and now her great-grandchildren. We are highly blessed to have her! Happy 91st birthday Nana!
Nana is known for always having a kind smile on her face and today was no exception. Love that smile!

Berkley and Meredith certainly enjoyed celebrating Nana's big day. When I told them it was Nana's birthday the first thing out of Berkley's mouth was, "CAKE!"

Bob the Wonder Dog
This is Bob...
Bob is Berkley's most favorite stuffed animal in the world! He received Bob as a gift from my mom's first cousin, who's name just happens to be Bob, when he was about 6 months old. Bob has not left Berkley's side pretty much since that day. As you can see, Bob has been loved very well. He actually had to have his first nose job this week, as Berkley chews on his nose so much that it finally became unstitched. I sewed it up with a needle and thread that has been in this house for who knows how long and Berkley seems not to have noticed any change yet, which is a good thing:) I thought that Bob was so special that he deserved a post all of his own. I'm praying that Bob will survive for many more years, but just in case, I'm planning on bidding on a dog like Bob who I recently found on Ebay. And any of you other internet savvy or yard sale savvy folks out there are welcome to keep a lookout for any stuffed animals like Bob that you may find out there. He was produced by a company called AnimalAdventures in 2008 or 2009.

The Twins' First Valentine's Day Party
Berkley and Meredith had their first ever Valentine's Party at their preschool this week. Their teachers did such a great job making the celebration special and fun! As you can see in the pictures they had some yummy treats! Berkley made the point of showing me everything on his plate, he said, "look mama, I've got this and this and this," as he pointed at each item on his plate. They were both especially happy about having milk to drink with a straw! I love seeing all these little hands grasping their milk proudly. Berkley did have a little spillage, but hey, he's not even 3 yet. After they finished their snacks, the teachers read them several books about pets, which they're studying this week. They also led them in singing several songs and nursery rhymes. I was super proud of Meredith as she finished several of the songs or rhymes all by herself! Fun was had by all!
A highlight was exchanging Valentine's with one another. They had the most adorable Panda Bear goodie bags made with lots of assistance from their wonderful teachers, Ms. Jane and Ms. Susan. They got everything from a fresh apple with a tag that said "You're the Apple of my Eye" to a chocolate dipped Twinkie on a stick. This weight watching mama had to separate all that chocolaty goodness and hide it; way too tempting!
A Gift From the Heart
A dear friend from my youth contacted me awhile back and asked if she could have the honor of making a flower arrangement to go atop my sister's grave. This friend, Patty Snyder Alcathie, was our youth pastor when we were in our early adolescence. Patty spent two summers as youth pastor at Piney Grove Baptist Church and she was very instrumental in my walk with the Lord. I was happily surprised by her desire to lend her gifts to such a noble task. Patty lives quite a distance away and was very moved by my sister's passing. She has been unable to visit her grave and this is her way of honoring Meredith. She chose to use the flower that my sister used in her wedding arrangements. I think it turned out beautifully and my family is so touched by her kindness!
And Patty, for the record, my kids were just as excited about the box you shipped the flowers in. They have climbed in and out of it and Berkley especially likes the road on the box; he drives his motorcycle on it. So, we're all enjoying this gift!

A Week in the Life of the Twins
I love an action shot! Here are the twins racing as their afternoon past time. They are so fast!
Meredith started the racing game. She'd run out to the swing set and then run back to me. Back and forth she went. Here she is saying "GO!"
Another new favorite is swinging her bear "D." Meredith has really switched gears into little mommy mode. She calls D her baby and she says that she's the mama. Every morning when I get her out of bed she is cuddling D and the first thing she tells me is that D is the baby and I'm the mama.
Berkley learned how to climb down the steps of the play set this week. You should see how proud he is of himself! Another area in which Berkley has really shown growth the past few weeks is his desire to dress himself. Berkley likes to put on his underwear and socks and does a pretty good job of it. He often gets both legs stuck in the same pants leg, but hey, he'll never learn if he doesn't practice! My babies are growing up!
And here we are at our first lunch at the new sandwich shop in downtown Jamesville, Samantha's Friendly Grocery and Sandwich Shop. This shop was built in the old building where my grandparents ran their small town grocery store, The Friendly Grocery, which has been vacated since the early 90's. It's amazing to see the building resurrected. The folks who own it now put so much effort into preserving the history of the building by refinishing the hardwood floors and restoring the unique tiled ceiling. And you should see the beautiful bar that they made. Not only did the new owners put a lot of time into refinishing the old store and upholding it's heritage, they were also very creative in their menu. They actually a sandwich named in honor of my Papa, "Mr. Tee Wee's All American!" They actually have a sandwich named for each of the previous owners. It's awesome. Overall, it's a beautiful sight to see life in that building again and I know that my grandparents would be thrilled to see the investment made in the life of the town of Jamesville. Berkley and Meredith enjoyed their first meal there. I had a grape soda out of a glass bottle, primarily because I'm so nostalgic and when my Papa used to let me choose a soda out of his ice box, I'd always choose a glass bottle grape soda. Berkley and Meredith loved their little grape drinks and they had their first taste of a moon pie. Yummy! I have a feeling we'll be making lots of visits to Samantha's in the future!
