A Visit From Mimi

After months of anxiously awaiting our turn for Mimi to come visit, she finally did!  Her life has been pretty busy planning a wedding so between that and her trips to Utah, we finally got a chance to have her come to Houston.  We were glad.  Hudson become her little shadow.   He went around yelling "NINI! NINI!" All day!  We filled our days with shopping while Boston was at school.  We quickly learned that Hudson is not AT ALL ready to go into Pier 1 without being strapped into a stroller.  Oh that boy was LOVING life that day (while stressing momma OUT)!  Thank goodness we left without anything being broken!
We also did some crafting.  I'm not a big crafter, I'd much rather pay someone to do it for me, but mom convinced me so this is what we did....
Friday we fulfilled Boston's wish of just wanting chicken nuggets for school lunch and brought him some Chickfila.  Notice Hudson cheesin it up in the background...
We got to sit at the special table reserved JUST for visitors.  Since it was Friday, the spirit cart was up and Mimi treated Boston to a little goodie....and the good mom I am, chunked it in the trash without thinking.  Good thing Boston spotted it!
I showed my mom his classroom where she learned just exactly what "open concept classrooms" are here in this school district.
Friday and Saturday we headed up to The Woodlands for Time Out for Women.  It was very uplifting and left me leaving wanting to be better and give more.  I feel very blessed in my life and I feel like I can definitely do more to help others.  Could you imagine if we all did just a little bit more how much better this world would be?  I also introduced my mom to Grimaldi's pizza since we were at the Marriott right next to it!  She fell in love.  I'm not surprised.  It's the best!
Saturday, after having the boys to himself since Friday afternoon, Kent met up with us for dinner.  My mom offered to take the boys while we went and had a night to ourselves.  I was grateful for that and off Kent and I went for pedicures and dessert.  I'll take any time with him that I can get!  Thanks mom!
Sunday of course was church, followed by a quick lunch so that she could get on the road back to Baton Rouge.  The boys were sad to have her go...and so was I.
We love having her come and visit.  We are spoiled when she comes.  It's been over a week now and Hudson still runs around asking for Nini.  Come back soon!

Labor Day in LA

Originally, my parents had planned to come to Houston for Labor Day weekend.  Since my dad is gone almost every weekend and LSU had there season opener, we decided to give my dad a break on traveling and go cheer on our Tigers in person.  Saturday, Kent had lunch with an old friend then we headed over to his mom's house to visit for a bit.  She was sweet enough to watch our boys while we headed with my parents to the game.  I LOVE LSU and their football pride.  Every year this man is in the same spot.  He has recreated this hurst and also had a casket redone with a plasma TV inside to watch the game (did I mention he also dresses up as a priest?)!  LSU fans crack me up!  They do NOT play around!
We love our Tigers and are happy to report that we WON 41-14 against North Texas.  We even left a little early which I don't think we have EVER done!
The next morning we headed to church with Kent's mom then went back to my parents to visit for a bit.  With hurricane Isaac hitting Louisiana just 2 days before we arrived (were we crazy to go just days after a hurricane?), we didn't get to spend too much time with my dad so we soaked up time with Mimi while we could...including get spoiled with treats.
Boston LOVED learning to play Battleship.  Can you tell he got excited about sinking one of mom's ships?
Monday, we didn't stay long because we needed to head back but not before the boys took a dip in the hurricane mess pool!
Our quick weekend visits to Baton Rouge are always just that, quick.  We enjoy seeing family when we can though and more importantly, we are happy to know they were all safe through the storm!

School Begins

Am I really old enough to have a child in kindergarten??  Apparently so because Boston has started!  I have been freaked out about this day for the past year.  It has literally caused many, MANY tears for various reasons (I'm talking over the last YEAR people...don't get me started on the first day).  Boston has had ZERO worries and has not been able to stop talking about it.  He is more than ready to be going.  I'm the one with the issues!  So, to my dismay, school came August 27th and now there is no looking back.
Thank you Hudson for cooperating for picture taking...
His SWEET, SWEET teacher Mrs. Ramirez.  It was seriously an answer to many prayers that Boston got her as a teacher.  She is amazing and absolutely LOVES what she does.  She told me this is her "calling" and even told me on the first day that God's power was in the classroom that day.  Yes, this is TEXAS and people might still talk about God in the classroom and I'm okay with that.
Boston found his seat and started coloring away.  Apparently, his little friend next to him has been moved already and Boston now sits next to a good friend he made, named Isaac.  Boston has no problems making new friends and that has helped some of my worries.  He also has a little girl from church, Honor, he is in his class and sits at his same table too!  That was a relief to me too!
I held it together quite nicely at school.  Kent told me I HAD to hold it together because the night previous, when Kent gave him a father's blessing, I was a wreck.  So, I held of the waterfalls until I got out of the school.
He had a GREAT day and loved it all.  He said the days are SO LONG and asked how much longer he had to go to school.  I explained to him that he's got 13 years, then he'll leave on his mission and then finish college which is four years..that is UNLESS you go on and become and doctor or lawyer.  Then it would be even LONGER!  His response?  "I definitely don't want to be a doctor or a lawyer.  I just want to be a BUG MAN!" The boy just started kindergarten and is already ready for a break!  Cracks me up!
We made it through the first week and are now onto week 2.  Boston comes home with TONS of energy.  We are still working on figuring out how to control all that energy but overall it has been a good experience, for Boston AND me.  His school has been great thus far.  Now, let's just pray his little mind doesn't get filled up too quickly with info he doesn't need to know just yet (that's my biggest worry)!
Here's to our first year being parents of our first kid in school!
By the way, the whole dynamic of our lives have now changed.  I don't know how I feel about it quite yet.
SIDENOTE:
Also on AUGUST 27, Kent and I celebrated 8, yes EIGHT years of marriage.  I feel like I couldn't quite "be all there" because of first day of school distractions.  I told Kent I want a raincheck.  We got a babysitter, did the whole dinner deal, etc but my poor planning (we take turns) for our anniversary was bad and I really need to make it up to him.
HAPPY EIGHT YEARS!!  Love him more and more each year.  I never realized that was ACTUALLY possible when I heard people say it but it's true...
