Pass with revisions

That's the verdict, peeps. Pass with revisions. I still have some work to do, but I won't have to suffer through another defense.

A big thanks to my committee for their insights and guidance. And a big thanks to my blogging friends for the crossed fingers.

Stomach somersaults

Sorry for the break in posts, kids. This girl is stressed and busy. The job started at IBM on 6/2 and has been good so far. Thank goodness for great coworkers. The part-time job at Banana Republic (and resultant bargain shopping) started that same week.

As for the dissertation? Hard copies were delivered to my committee on 6/17. I am currently fine-tuning the presentation and reviewing some of the tangential theories and methodologies. Oh, and I'm stressing. A lot. My final defense is tomorrow at 11:00am MST. That's 10:00am for those of you in the normal Mountain time zone states that do daylight savings time. Prayers and Hail Mary's and goats and salt... you know the drill people. I can use it tomorrow. I mean - I know my stuff and I'm prepared and from what I hear, they like it. But still. Blowing this would be bad.

Assuming - okay, hoping - all goes well, there's a party Saturday night at my house. It has to be a good sign that my advisor let me plan a party for that night, right? (And yes, I scheduled it with her input.)

Yeah. Still nervous. I'll keep you posted.

Catch up time

Sorry it's been so long since I last posted... So I'm going to pull a Tiffany and just do a quick recap to catch everyone up.

For Memorial Day weekend, we went to Vegas with some of our friends. After we checked into our awesome suite (Marriott time shares are so nice), we went to dinner at PF Chang's and then Colleen and I called it a night while the boys went out to play. About an hour later, Xav was home... his wallet was stolen. Besides losing cash and credit cards, this also meant he was without ID for the whole trip.

Let me just say here that Xavier is great. He had all the cards canceled and put an alert on his credit within the hour and then just kind said "oh well." Me? I would have stressed and cried and worried and probably ruined the whole weekend. Him? He just said that he lost $100, but that he was up $133, so really he was still up $33. And the best part? By the end of the week, we were up $800-ish. My boy knows how to play blackjack. And more importantly, he knows how to walk away from the table when he's up a couple hundy. And TSA even let him on the plane - after a pat down and some extra rummaging in his luggage.

Last week was mostly full of random errands and writing. I met with Suzie, advisor extraordinaire, and she only wants some minor edits, some cut-and-paste, and one new section. (!!!) So I'll get the edits done and some formatting, and I should have plenty of time to get the final manuscript to my committee by 6/16. I was supposed to get a paper written for a conference in Hawaii (due 6/15) last weekend, but my body finally gave up and I got the flu. Hopefully I can get that kicked out this week and to my co-authors for some edits. My other project is still waiting on documentation from IBM Research in New York, but that should pick up in the next week or two.

I am happy to report that this week I am employed. Woohoo. I started with IBM/Tucson on Monday and so far, so good. Except that I still have no laptop and no Internet connectivity. (Details, details.) It's nice to see old friends and at least I have a job until the end of the year. I've already started to stress about finding employment after my internship ends, but Xav tries to distract me so I don't freak out just yet. I may also take a part time job at Banana Republic (aka mecca), which is making my mom and sister drool in anticipation of birthday and Christmas gifts.
