Our crazy spring break funnies

We are taking a massive road trip. From Wilmette to Mt Vernon, to Memphis (Graceland) to Jackson for a night, then to New Orleans for 3 days (that's how far we've gotten) Sunday we head toward Williamsburg to see Dusty, Heather, and Esme, then to Gainsville to the VA Smiths and DC. So far the weather has been worth the drive, 70's everyday for the first leg at least!!!

Here are a few funnies!

Bailey at Graceland at the grave of Elvis:

Mom said, My mom grew of on Elvis (trying to explain why everyone was nuts over Elvis).

Bailey said, Your mom threw up on Elvis???

Parker in the Hotel:

We'd just woke up and we were talking. He swung his leg over my stomach and I said ouch.

He said: oh, sorry I hurt your uterus. (he's learning about reproduction in school)

Holden comments:

Take it easy, take it easy (when everyone was arguing once)

We cuddled this morning and he said we'll cuddle for a little bit, then 3 minutes later he said okay mom a little bit is done. ( I know it's hard to believe Holden would ever be done cuddling.)

Thursday night swimming the water was a little cold. I told the kids I'd give them a dollar if they just jumped in and I videotaped it. Bailey jumped and then it was HOldens turn. He was afraid so he jumped towards the stairs and mom caught herself swearing on tape. I totally thought he cracked his head open on the stairs and the hand rail. Sorry mom!

Whatever we forget Bailey will remember. She's writing a book about our adventure. She's a good little writer.

A lesson on Obedience

Holden was in trouble for being crazy and in time out this afternoon for not listening and obey me. Brayden went up to talk to him about it while I took Parker to basketball and this is what happened.

Brayden: Do you know what obedience is?
Holden: No
B: Its when you do what mommy says.
H: Yeah and what Obama says. Obama commands me. (which is funny because a few weeks ago Holden told Brayden to get him so water and when Brayden did Holden said Daddy, I command you.)

So the order in our house goes Obama, Holden, Brayden

Wrapping presents with a 5 yr old

Holden: Is that Mom's present?
Dad: Yes.
Holden: Don't worry, I won't tell her what it is.....I'll probably forget.
(longer pause)
Holden: I actually don't know what it's called.

Holden's playdates

I'm at a friends babysitting and Holden and her daughter Lucy (who Holden adores) are playing. Holden says "lets pretend that I love you and you're my girlfriend and I'm your boyfriend". Lucy says "okay", then he hinds behind the coach and says "I'll text you that". Then they go one playing and a little bit later I hear Holden say, "Okay now let's pretend that I have another girlfriend and her name is Jen and you're okay with that". Lucy says, "OooKaaayy" and then she says, "text me that too".
I don't know who I should be more concerned with in this scenario. I'm surprised that Lucy went along with it in the first place because since Holden confessed his love for her 2 1/2 years ago she's told us she's not committing to anyone just yet. She's a catch. I don't blame her.

My kids are funny

I know I haven't updated in FOREVER! I find myself not putting things in because it's not updated so I'm saying officially saying WHATEVER. I can't be a pro-blogger. I am how I am and that's all I can be. A less than average blogger at best.

I don't want to blame it on busyness but man I feel busy. Parker just finished Football, Holden did Soccer and Bailey was doing Yoga (so cute) and Girls on the Run. She's running a 5k on saturday in fact. It's a great program that teaches girls self confidence, healthy living and exercise. She's loved it! I'm very excited for her. And I just gave birth to Super Saturday (as my good friend puts it). Braydens teaching this quarter so that complicates all of our lives. Though that's the purpose of his job, I realize he IS a professor, but I am glad when the term is over.

Anyway, Here are a few funnies:

Bailey and Brayden went for a walk and she had just gotten some new rain boots that were zebra print, very cute, and she was very excited about them. They were quiet for a minute and Brayden I'm sure was thinking about a paper or something work related and Bailey says "What are you thinking about?" and before he could answer she says, "How cute my boots are?". I'm sure it never occured to her that he would be thinking about anything else!

Holden and his friend Duncan were talking today in the car.

Duncan: Holden, do you have a phone book?
Holden: What's that?
Duncan: It's this big book that has everyone's phone number in it.
Holden: Wow, no I don't have that.
Duncan: I do. So I have your phone number.

And now I am suffering for my lack of blogging because I can't remember the other Holden thing I've been wanting to write. So this is all you get, sorry.

Family Walks

We went on a walk today. We thought it would be a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon and have the kids get some energy out. It started out nice enough but quickly turned. Bailey, my coordinated daughter, fell twice off her scooter within the first block. She, of course, would cry and while she was doing that Holden kept falling off his scooter. So we walked back and got his big wheel. We set off again. Holden is totally out of control as usual and falls off his big wheel (how you manage that I'll never know) and then Bailey falls off her scooter again.

We finally get everyone going and make it a few blocks successfully. Brayden and I are feeling pretty good. Having fun watching Parker learn is roller blades. Life is good. Then Holden is starting to ram himself into Bailey and knocking her over. This happens a couple times. Bailey, of course, crying and throwing things again. Then Parker and Bailey are tired of Holden cutting them off so they go ahead and Holden starts crying. He is devistated that he's not "first". He then continues to cry the last 2 blocks to our house, while he's riding his big wheel and looking back at Brayden and I to make sure we're still there.

Aren't Sunday walks the best!!!

Holden

Here are some of Holden's newest cutenesses:

Holden tells me all the time, "You're the best mom on the whole wide world." But the other day he says,
Holden: You're the best mom on the whole wide world.

Mom: Oh, thanks. ( thinking he's so sweet)

Holden: Mom, what does that mean, you're the best mom ever???

If you go back a few post you'll recall Holden telling me I have a chubby bum (and pinching it) as we are walking through the gym. Now I think this is because I tell him all the time he has a chubby bum and I pinch his.

Well he as taken this to a whole new level. It has become a hourly compliment. He's constantly telling everyone "you're so chubby" and then he'll squeeze you and give you kisses. We've now discovered that he thinks chubby means soft. So if Holden calls you chubby please don't be offended. It's his greatest compliment.

Kissing has also been taken to a whole new level. He is obsessed with kissing everyone. Don't turn your back or you backside will get kisses. He has even gotten in trouble at school for kissing his friends. Brayden is quick to say this is my fault. But what can I say, he's a lover not a fighter!!!

Christmas

As usually I'm back blogging.
So we started the season off a bit rocky. My Grandmother passed on Thanksgiving. She was 86 and had suffered from MS for most of her adult life. Although we were sad to see her go, she fought the disease until the end and lived a wonderful life. She was always an example of fighting the good fight, and endure to the end with a smile on your face. She just beamed happiness all the time. I loved her dearly. Holden and I went to Utah for a week for the funeral and were able to see family. While we were there Holden got some serious Ian time. It was fun to spend time with family!

We saw Santa

We went to Build A Bear

Decorated Gingerbread house (and had to do it fast or Megan would have ate all the candy). We also got to go to Cousin Sam's first birthday party! And have dinner with Grandma and pa Highbarger.

When we got back to Chicago I forgot my camera everywhere, so I have no good pictures. He spent the night in Chicago the week before and saw the Macy's windows and all that. We went to Lincoln Park Zoo and saw the animals, the lights were turned on just as we were leaving, we also saw the conservatory and looked and all kinds of plants and they had some trains also.
The next day we went to the Winterfest and the kids played there. There were more people there this year which was a bummer but no huge snow storm to worry about which was good. Bailey's shoes got taken outside of one of the bumper/slide things. She spent the last 2 hours without shoes and had to walk to the car in her socks! Christmas morning was great. I over did it again but everyone was basically happy.
This may be the last picture I get of them hugging.

Teck Deck is a must for 10 yr old boys

We're back to Hot Wheel tracks all over the place. Brayden had fun with this one.

Auntie Breanna send us some thing to shut Brayden up with. So sweet of her.

Grandma's Smith has such good taste. Bailey calls this her Paris outfit.
Hours after all the fun was over, Holden, without saying a word, climbed into the chair with me and started rubbing my arm and within 3 minutes he was out! One of the cutest moments EVER!
Christmas was great!

Bailey's a Poet

Here's a card Bailey made for me saturday.

Here's Brayden's:

People DO think he's awesome!
We love you do Bailey!

Potty Training Pt 2

What you are about to read is disturbing. If you have a weak stomach (Dusty) don't read on.

I knew Holden had to go potty but when I asked he said no. So I didn't push it (heaven knows why). He was really quiet, which was my first clue that something was wrong. I go to find him and I asked where he was and he answered, "I'm going poopies mom but don't come in, I'm fine". Clue two. So I go in of course and he had started pooping in his pants and then tried to make it to the toilet. So there was poop EVERYWHERE. He'd tried to "clean it up" himself. There was poop on the toilet (not in, ON), on the walls, on this clothes, legs, feet, hands. I mean EVERYWHERE. I've heard/experience this with younger children but never with a 4 1/2 year old! Blessings, Blessings!

Potty Training

It's amazing that anyone is peeing in a toilet these days. Holden is having an especially hard time with pooping and peeing. Today I smelt something not nice and checked him, yet again he start to poop in his pants. So I get time to the toilet to finish and all cleaned up and I'm trying to have a heart to heart with him about this issue (since he is 4 1/2) and after I talked he says, "Mommy, your eye's are small to me. They are this big and my eyes are this big (as he's measure our eyes with his little fingers)." And he continues on this track for another minute or two. I finally did get him focused in on the problem at hand but I don't know how much he cared in the end. He just wanted to talk about eyes. I guess we all learn to poop and pee in the potty eventually right???

Bailey's Bum

My wonderful friend Amy was babysitting last week for us and she told me a funny Bailey moment. I guess they were all going to bed and Parker smacked Bailey on the bum for fun. (this is something done often in our house because I do like to pinch my kids bums, they're just so cute!). I guess he did it a little to hard and she started crying and Amy went to hug her. And Bailey said, "I just wish I didn't have such a cute bum." Yes, we all wish we had this problem, huh girls.
