Hello, I'm Back

I'm sorry for such a long absence, I just couldn't write. It was really a case of if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it. The war was really all encompassing, terrifying, and life sucking, and that is coming from someone who lived in an area that wasn't being bombed on a daily basis. But through the couple of Israeli bloggers who I read, I stumbled upon the world of blogs devoted to either Israeli or Arab political perspectives, and let me tell you, it's not a nice place to be. All too often it was hate being spewed onto the pages of the blogs, and I felt like I needed to take a shower after reading them to get rid of all of the nastiness I had absorbed. Unfortunately, I really understood where all of those blogs were coming from, I was feeling the need to justify my point of view as well. But the couple of times I sat down to write about what was going on I realized that what I was writing was just going to contribute to the shitstorm and decided for now, in this particular situation, writing on my blog was not the place for my feelings. I really just didn't want to be a part of all that was going on. It was my way of trying to actually help the situation, to contribute to the root of the situation, which we all know is an ugly ugly cycle of hate.

I really feel like the best thing people can do to help what is going on in the middle east is to think before they talk. One of the worst things about this war was feeling like the whole world is shitting on us, denying us our right to protect ourselves. And that feeling is oh so immediate when the bombs continue to fall on almost half of your country, and noone thinks that it's such a big deal. Israel is mean, Israel is aggressive, Israel has no right to do anything but sit in their bomb shelters.

A couple of weeks ago, before my blog hiatus, I was reading some high powered woman/mommy/whatever blogger, one of those who is very witty and all of her commenters just try to one up eachother and prove that they can be just as funny as the blogger herself. One particular commenter decided that a post on being fitted for a new bra, which really is a very important topic, I think I'm going to do the same in a couple of days, was an appropriate time to bring in her opinion on what was going on in the middle east. Apparently, according to her, Victoria has an angry little secret (i.e. that's why her bras don't fit people with big boobs), that secret is that a lot of her underwear is made in, gasp, ISRAEL. Her point was that Victoria was angry and being nasty because Israel was being mean and nasty. Now, she made this comment in a very leftist (I'm a democrat too, don't worry), what is happening to the world, vein. So, I meandered over to her website, and predictably she was a peace corps graduate, very leftist, peace peace whatever. She had a post up about how all of the leaders in the Middle East should come and eat the cupcakes that she made and then there would be no more war. Little did she know that her little comment on the internet was just perpetuating all of the hate. Yes, Vicki's is evil because they are made in Israel, that is really what you want to be saying at a time like this. Do you realize that every time you say something nasty about Israel, you are supporting all of the hate propaganda that the arab countries teach their children. Israel is evil, because they exist. Just seeing something like that taken so lightly made me steam. And if she had looked at a couple more panties she would have seen that they are made in Jordan as well, if not more so now. And they aren't doing that because of a deep seeded political belief, "cough", cheap labor.

The point of that whole story is just to think before you speak. What you think is just a cool, leftist, political comment, could really be hurtful to someone else.

But anyway, thank god, the cease fire was signed. Our fathers, brothers, and sons have already been released from the army for the most part. I pray that the non-Israeli troops in South Lebanon can do their job and protect us on the other side of the fence. I don't want that to happen again, it was really really awful.

Now I'm in the good old US of A. On vacation, preparing for my sister's wedding in a couple of weeks. I've already eaten at Panera, bought a couple pairs of American Eagle jeans, and on today's itinerary I'm going to pay Vicki's a little visit, my boobs keep growing lately.

Thanks for still reading if you're there, I know it's been a while since I've written anything. God willing I will not have anoter hiatus due to war for a very long time. For now if you don't hear from me for a couple of days it's because I'm sitting at Panera, planning my next trip to Sephora.
