“Maybe Later”

This will reveal my bad parenting skills but I couldn’t resist sharing and I have since repented. After FHE last night, John and I like to go over the calendar for the week. Eyrlin came into the living room and asked if we wanted to hear her book.

(She colored pages in her coloring book tore them out and then put them in order to create a story. It’s about 20 pages long and she worked really, really hard on it.)

John and I declined with the “maybe later” bit and she went on to ask her brothers, everyone declined her offer.

Later, John went upstairs and quickly came down and said, “Babe, you have got to come up and see who Eyrlin found to read to.”

Here she was with her blanket laid out, dolls lined up, and a chair in place, reading her book.

I felt so bad!

Eyrlin is not a downer at all, actually, none of my kids are, and she was completely happy with finding an acceptable, quiet, still, stiff crowd to read to. She even commented to us, “My dolls love it when I read to them.” I agreed, the smiles on their faces said it all.

I have tried to redeemed myself this morning. She was the first one awake and I asked if she had any stories that she could read to me. Her response, “Sorry mom, I’m still kind of tired but maybe later.”

MAYBE LATER?!

So now I have decided that “maybe later” will no longer be an acceptable phrase in this house. I think “maybe later” is a frequent visitor in my vocabulary so this will be really good for me to leave him/her at the front steps of my home.

In this house “maybe later” is a thing of the past people!

Wish me luck!

Sick Little Canon Ball

Sick Canon

I am home from church today, yet again. Canon is sick and we can’t figure out what is going on with him. Canon tossed his cookies once and has been running a fever for two days. Stomach flu? Ear ache? Tooth? Who knows, but we are taking advantage of all the snuggle time he’ll give us.

Canon is an independent little guy and loves to move, climb, be into things any chance he can get. Canon just loves to explore his life. It’s weird not walking into the kitchen to bowls scattered around the floor or Canon running from me with my pen in hand. We miss he’s spunky personality and can’t wait for him to be back to normal.

Something to Talk About…

Enough will all the medical drama, it’s time to talk about something else.

I am feeling pretty good, everyday just keeps getting better. I feel pretty optimistic in going forward, and I am off all the crazy meds (YAY!). I really feel extremely blessed by the love and support from friends and family. I wrote 32 thank you notes to everyone who came to our home and expressed love and concern towards us. It was absolutely overwhelming and, I don’t know how I will ever repay them all. I have a few ideas.

Now that everything is moving forward again we decided to start school. I am suppose to be pretty home bound so I thought it would keep my mind off of  cleaning and on to sitting and teaching and reading and loving and taking it easy.

Canon at School

This sweet little guy decided to join us and he thinks he is so big. Canon grabbed the pencil and started writing on the table. Instead of pulling him away I just slipped the paper under his eraser. Canon sat there for most of the school day, honestly, I was surprised but really happy.

Canon is a walking, talking machine. He is adorable. Here is an extra sweet moment with him in the tub.

Canon Bath

Anyway, back to school. We have been taking things a bit slow. Jax is starting 4th grade curriculum, Rylon is starting 1st/2nd, Eyrlin Kindergarten, and Broden preschool.

Broden has been so excited as he watched me printing and putting things together for him. Broden had no idea why he was excited he just was.

I love this boy! He always makes me laugh.

One big thing that we have changed is our wake up time. All kids, minus Canon, wake at ……….. 6:00AM. Ouch, I know.

Eyrlin Asleep

As you can see, Eyrlin is struggling a bit with the new time. She is sitting on her bed and laying on her dresser asleep. The kids have gotten use to the early time and wake on their own now. It was a rough first week but we made it through.

I don’t have pics of Jax and Rylon but, they are doing well with all the new changes and when school is done for the day, I find them digging deep in a sea of Legos. I LOVE you Legos, now lower your prices a bit.

John is doing well. I hear the alarm screaming at him around 4:30AM every morning and he is passed out by 9:00PM every night. I wish I were as diligent as him but I use any excuse to squeeze out another 15-30 minutes of sleep in the morning.

Life is delicious with all the sweet memories we are making here in the Tober home. I love my bundles of joy and my ruggedly handsome husband.  Life couldn’t be sweeter!

YUM!!

It’s Drama, Real Life Drama

I have to post this and my fingers hurt so you BETTER read. I also intrigued you with a catchy title, so you sit down and get comfy. I debated to share my personal, intimate feelings, but it is all about being AWARE.

This was the antibiotic I took through my IV in the hospital everyday. I also received this prescription from the doctor with the instructions to start taking it right away once I was home. Of course I listened. John took it to Wal-Mart along with some others I needed filled. I received a call from him.

“Hey Babe.” John

“Hey, so how much are the prescriptions going to be?” Me

“I don’t want to tell you.” John

“Tell me.” Me

“The Levaquin is going to be $106.” John

“WHAT!!!??? Let me call the doctor and get a cheaper prescription!” Me

“I would rather not. I would feel much more at ease knowing you are taking the best kind of antibiotic.” John

Remember we were still in scared, freaked out mode. A lot was discussed, and I finally agreed.

John brought home this golden pill, and I swallowed $15.

The first night I took the golden pill I couldn’t sleep. I was restless.

The second night, my sister convinced me that sleep was a must so I should take my Motrin and some Lora tab to help calm my nerves and allow me to sleep. I agreed.

In the middle of the night I woke up sweating and freaking out.

“John, someone is trying to choke me!!” Me

“What?!” John asleep.

“Where have you been!?” Me

“When? I’ve been asleep.” John

“I can’t breath! My hands, lips, and tongue are numb! I feel like someone tried to choke me! I feel pressure on my throat like someone choked me!” Me

This went on for awhile. I started to cry and felt a little out of control of my emotions.

John checked my pulse and watched me breath and concluded I was fine and it was probably the pain medications. (Uh huh, right John!)

(Background: I NEVER take anything stronger than Tylenol for pain.)

I agreed.

“Just to be safe, I’m staying awake!” Me. I sat up straight in bed and kept checking my bedroom door.

I felt this overwhelming feeling of paranoia, confusion, and anxiety. I was jittery, frightened, and thoughts were scrambling in my head that had me stressed. I was freaking out! Finally, after a few hours of this, I fell asleep. I woke in the morning and called my sister who is an RN and a trusted source who knows me.

“Mary, I can’t take the Lora tab or Motrin, it’s just too much for me.” Me.

I explain my symptoms.

“Kathy, maybe it’s your antibiotic. I would go read up on it and see if any of it fits your symptoms. It’s just doesn’t sound like the pain meds you are taking.” Mary

“But I took it in the hospital and was fine.” Me.

“It might not have manifested itself then but is now. Also, pill form is different then liquid in an IV.”Mary

We hung up. I read it and this is what I found. (Just so you know these were just two of the MANY, MANY side effects. A matter of fact it had a number to call to get the complete list.)

What are some of the side effects of LEVAQUIN®?

Central nervous system side effects may occur as soon as after taking the first dose. Talk to your physician right away if you experience seizures, hallucinations, confusion, depression, anxiety, trouble sleeping, nightmares, feeling more suspicious, or other changes in mood or behavior.

Damage to nerves in the arms, legs and hands can happen. Tell your healthcare professional right away if you feel pain, burning, tingling, numbness, or weakness in your arms, hands, legs, or feet.

(I underlined my symptoms for you.)

Along with this, it said to not take with iron BUT docs orders were to take iron.

I still can’t sleep at night because I am scared, paranoid, and emotional. I cry a lot, over everything, good or bad. You know what else it said:

“These symptoms can last up to 2 months after the use of antibiotics.”

LUCKY ME!!

I wish I was a little smarter in the drug department. The $106 made us think it was the best. I realize the $106 is paying for all the lawsuits they have against them. Sorry, I don’t mean to be mean but it does makes you think. The positive side, for two more months I can blame any meanness, crying, and any stress on the antibiotic. Right?

This could be an interesting two months. You might want to stick around, just sayin’.

Anyway, if anyone has any great advice for sleep let me know, or if you want someone to cry with, I’m your woman.

Just so you ALL know, last night, we flushed $75 down the toilet. IT HURT and yes, I cried, but so did John.

Cinderella was Married in the Temple

IMG_2658

Eyrlin is into decorating her own room. She will shut her door and then come out and round us up for a tour of her latest decorating creation.

I loved this one.

“See look mom, Cinderella and Prince Charming were married in the temple.”
