Why can't I edit some particular pages?

Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.

How do I create an article?

See how to create your first article, then use the Article Wizard to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.

How do I create citations?

1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:

New pages patrol September 2026 Backlog drive

September 2026 Backlog Drive | New pages patrol
On 1 September 2026, a one-month backlog drive for new pages patrol will begin at a particularly important time for NPP. The backlog has now passed 30,000 unreviewed articles, a level that has been described in current NPP discussions as exceptionally high and potentially difficult to overcome through normal reviewing alone. Backlog drives are one of the few measures that have historically produced a noticeable reduction in the backlog, so the participation of as many active patrollers as possible will matter this month. If you can review during September, please make articles your priority. Every article that is reviewed is a meaningful reduction in the backlog. With the queue at its current size, even a relatively small increase in the number of articles each patroller reviews can add up to a substantial difference over the course of the month. This is a hybrid drive, so redirect reviewing is still included. Redirects can be a useful way for newer patrollers to get comfortable with NPP and can help people build up to reviewing articles. However, the main goal of this drive is to tackle the article backlog, and experienced patrollers are particularly encouraged to spend as much of their available reviewing time on articles as they can. Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Each article review will earn 1 point, while each redirect review will earn 0.2 points. Streak awards will be given out based on consistently hitting point thresholds for each week of the drive. Barnstars will also be granted for re-reviewing articles previously reviewed by other patrollers during the drive. If you have been thinking about doing more NPP, this is an especially good month to jump in. Whether you can review a few pages or hundreds, every review helps. Since it's the 1980s I'd check newspapers.com and newspaper archives. By academic, I meant things published about him, not by him - books are also good that discuss him on some level.

Of the sources you provided:

1 is solid and useable - good find

2 (the library) is also solid and useable

3 is not a support for notability (it's a company witha financial relationship with Stoneman)

4 is a blogspot, so unusable

5 is IMDB - which is user-generated - so unusable.

6 is a solid critique - useable

Poorly sourced medical claims on [Khader Vali]

There are medical claims and typically these should source from peer reviewed sources and not generic questionable podcasts and so on which typically just echo primary source where they get to say what ever they want. Advocacy doesn't make a notable scientist either. Is there not any peer reviewed research or independent credible analytical sources that can be referred? Advocacy doesn't make notability under NPROF, true, (usually, there are some cases where it can), but enough sigcov does make notability under GNG - and the page is about Vali, not about his claims on millet (or at least it should be). I do think the page should be cleaned up, but WP:Deletion is not cleanup, so what I did was support notability through major Indian WP:RSs. The research / medical claims on millet either way and it's pro's / con's / supposed medical benefits or otherwise should be on it's own page and the bio needs to be neutral without hyberbolics and questionable medical claims. It follows the standard format for bios to make sure there is no unnecessary emphasis that can result into appearance bias. Just bringing your attention to this

I'm sure you've noticed that AN/I is currently page protected, so I thought I'd mention this here: Binksternet has nominated an article that I created, and am responsible for 99% of, for either deletion or merging. Zirthes has just appeared and voted merge. Zirthes didn't think it was unsuitable for a standalone encyclopedia article in mid-August when I created the article, because they were editing it and fiddling with my formatting.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I wasn't trying to get you to vote in the thread. Instead, I meant it as an another example of the many supposed coincidences that I've been pointing out. A day after an opportunity to get my article deleted presents itself, Zirthes suddenly believes that the article (that they edited half a month ago) needs to go. @Silassamuel: generally it's discouraged to write about someone you know personally (see WP:COI), especially one you have a financial relationship with, like a boss (see WP:PAID). I'd recommend creating a different article, and instead just putting your boss on one of the many WP:Requested articles lists. Not really, no. Seems the sourcing is insufficient to show that he meets notability, and regardless WP:COI and WP:PAID editing, which it seems like you fall under, is very much disapproved of. If he becomes independently notable, an independent editor can reassess at another time, and you can add his name to the Requested articles list (of course disclosing that you're his employee), but for now it's not workable. Hi! Sure. I'm guessing you're talking about visual editor, which is a great place to get started. The main ones you'll need to know are bold and italic (both of which are under the A icon) and citing (the quote mark). There are also a ton of templates (like Short Description, Reflist, Infobox, etc) which you can get to by typing {{ and then stating the template's name. If you're trying to do a link between articles, you do [[ and then type the name of the article you're linking to, or just use the link icon. Hope that helps! The 2026 Developing Countries WikiContest has now been running for two months! I have been trying to CORRECT numerous errors in the "St. Peter" page, being the ultimate authority on the subject (I led the 3 year search for her, discovered the wreck and then led the 15 years of artifact retrieval diving on her. There is NO ONE more qualified or a better source for all things St. Peter. Your system keeps kicking out my corrective edits and threatening me.

THAT exactly IS the problem....

There are NO such sources; just a bunch of articles written years after that all referred to each other-- it is like a circular firing squad. Someone wrote an article with a ton of "editorial license" then someone else quoted that then someone else quoted that and so on and so on.

THAT is why I am trying to correct all the mis-information that is out there-- at the top of the list is Wikipedia. You refer to sources that are INCORRECT, including NOAA (they are fixing theirs next month) and the National Registry of Historic Places (trying to get them to correct their errors.) The picture of the supposed St. Peter the author just "made up" as he needed a picture for his 2012 newspaper article (which, BTW, he plagiarized from a 1947 Toronto Telegraph article!!! Got that tidbit direct from his lying mouth in a telephone conversation- stole the picture from a 1906 postcard that had no information on it)

Wiki does not seem to understand that myself and my dive partners are the ONLY reliable source!!! We do not reflect "knowledge" on the subject-- we ARE the subject...

Telling the same lies over and over again do not make them correct.

If you need to verify my expertise and claim contact the correct Director at the State of New York Museum (owner of the artifacts). I can supply that contact if desired.

I have over 58 YEARS involved with the St. Peter Discovered its' existence in April 1968, then led the three year search and discovered the wreck on August14/15, 1970 along with Bob. Then I led the dive team for FIFTEEN years documenting her and recovering the artifacts.

Your sources are just poor after-the-fact publications trying to document something they known nothing about, unfortunately.

@Tmuilhall: If NOAA is fixing their publication in a month, I feel the cleanest solution would be just waiting that month, then submitting a WP:Edit requests to update? I'd even be happy to make the updates for you once there are valid academic/scholarly/news sources supporting your statements.

Alternatively, we could use a scholarly, peer-reviewed article on the subject written by you, if you happen to have one. We unfortunately can't just take someone at their word, even an expert in the field - we need academic/scholarly publications, academic/scholarly books, or news sources for that.

As for the image, unfortunately that phone conversation is unverifiable and therefore can't be used in any way to support the image being of the wrong ship. However, the image currently there still doesn't make any sense (it's sourced to a not just nonreliable but actively un-reliable blog which doesn't cite it) - so I have switched it out for the NOAA shipwreck image that is also used below.
