Let me start by saying, I'm a classic Type "A" personality. I don't find "relaxation" or a nap an easy thing to do. So carrying a "high-risk" pregnancy is challenging because as the current economy is drastically effecting my #1 sales status therefore I'M STRESSED! Additionally I'm now having to see my OB/GYN every week so they can check the length of my cervix due to all of my cancer surgeries fearing I could still be at risk for a miscarriage...although so far everything has been looking really good, but that doesn't help with matters. On top of that, I'm tired of people telling me "don't be stressed, it's bad for the baby."
Don't get me wrong, Bill and I are still SO excited about our little girl and I'm not stressed about the wonderful gift that we have coming. I just wish that right now gas wasn't over $4.00/gallon and I was surrounded by so much uncertainty and STRESS.
Little did I know how much thought would go into naming a child, especially since if we were having a boy the name was decided about 8 months ago. I guess I figured, I've always had a talent for picking perfect animal names, so our child would be a snap. I guess the difference being our dog didn't have the potential to be a doctor, actress or next sales person extraordinaire. ;-)
So I thought we had agreed on a name that we shared with some of you, but a couple disagreeing conversations between Bill and I and sitting down in front of the Social Security Administrations Top 500 has turned us full circle. (Luckily Tyler is here to participate in the decision making process, so that makes it even more fun.)
So, before you have anything personalized...hold off, the verdict is still out.
Bill & I went for our 16 week doctor appointment. We met with the doctor, which was pretty routine. Everything is going well. They are still trying to find me a gyno-oncologist to deal with the cancer at the time of delivery. We then went back to the waiting room to wait for about an hour to see the ultrasound tech. While waiting we agreed that if they told us it was a girl we'd go out to dinner to celebrate, if it was a boy we'd probably go home and have beef stew. Anyway, I'll spare you all the medical details but medically my cervix is looking good even with all the surgery's I've had. (I have a follow-up appointment doctor appointment in two weeks...still keeping our fingers crossed everything will remain good.)
Now on the good stuff. We told the tech we were hoping she could see something, or the lack of something, today. I told her I had been having really strong "boy" feelings. Not any sooner than I got those words out of my mouth she responded with..."well, you're having a little girl". Bill about jumped out of his seat, questioning her certainty, while I started to cry with excitement. She kindly made some more passes over my tummy to snap some close up shots to confirm GIRL status.
WE ARE HAVING A FREAKIN' GIRL!!!!!!!!!! I'm excited for us, but I think I'm more excited for Billy, he deserves a daddy's girl and he thinks I deserve a hormonal girl to make me regret what a brat I've been to my mom over the years. (Sorry Mom, I love you!)
GOD's definitely having a laugh at our reactions of disbelief as he keeps dishing out these amazing gifts to us. Without a doubt we couldn't be more excited and ready to raise a little one of our own. Bill says "we'll never forget today, one of the biggest days of our life" and I agree.
