When it rains...

I've always preferred the bad news before the good, so here's the latest...

This past Saturday while Bill was cleaning our pool he lost his footing and fell into the pool. Before hitting the water we think his leg hit the side of the pool, as he heard his leg 'snap'. While trying to pull himself out of the water he yelled for me. I came out to find him laying on the deck in the 110 degree weather with 2 bones pushing through his leg and bleeding like crazy. We both tried to remain calm while I called 911. The fire department and ambulance got to the house quickly, assessed he was going to need surgery and rushed him to Mercy Hospital. By 5:30 he went in to have 4 pins placed in his leg (see photo) to mobilize the bones until he can get in for a second surgery later this week to put a plate in his leg. He's been in a lot of pain and the wound just keeps bleeding, which is delightful. With proper care he will be recovered in 6-8 weeks, just in time for baby to come and it be his turn to take care of me after my surgery.

Now the good news; due to the excitement, stress and lost sleep staying at the hospital with Bill we were a little concerned about my condition. I had an appointment on Monday and thankfully my cervix length hadn't changed and current growth ultrasounds show that 'peanut' is developing perfectly. Via 4D ultrasound, I really couldn't believe how beautiful she already looks, but maybe I've already turned into one of those partial parents.

23 Weeks (6 months)

Today marks 23 weeks and thankfully puts us in the '6 months pregnant' category. I had an ultrasound appointment tonight to check my cervix which is still holding at 2.78cm...good news! (We are really looking forward to next Monday's visit which will be my final cervix-check appointment, see the OB for a status on everything and peak-in on 'peanut' while they do a routine 'growth' ultrasound.) Bed rest still sucks, but the love and support that I've been receiving from family and friends has really helped to keep everything in perspective....THANK YOU all so much!

Bed Rest...Still Holding

I had a doctor's appointment today to check my cervix. The doctor's thought my 'stitch' may be experiencing some complications. After a bunch of internal poking and prodding they weren't 100% about the placement, but resolved to resume bed rest and reevaluate next Monday. (Sounds like it's going to be the story of my life for a while.)

At this point, everything is fine. 'Peanut' is healthy and kicking on a regular basis reminding me to keep dealing with the inconveniences of our pregnancy.

High Risk Pregnancy Sucks!

I underwent the cervical cerclage on Thursday. Wow, was that a bit more than I had expected. Let me just say; 11 people in a room, my lower end epiduraled, strapped in the air with 2 big spotlights glaring at my girl parts was more than I could have planned for. (Keep in mind all previous surgery's were always done while I was under anesthesia.) I gritted my teeth through the 10 minutes of discomfort and then waited 2.5 hours for my lower body to wake back up so we could go home and I could lay around for the next 5 days until my follow-up doctors visit. (Can you sense my displeasure in being couch-bound?) Don't get me wrong, I'll do whatever the doctors tell me to bring 'Ms. Peanut' into the world, but as of Thursday I'm no longer enjoying pregnancy! Beyond my crankiness, Bill has been an A+ hubby cooking, cleaning and taking care of all my needs.

Bed Rest

Just when we had gotten spoiled by the ease of this miracle pregnancy...

First, let me start by saying my cervix has been being monitored weekly for the past couple of weeks and everything was fine. Last Wednesday I had my complete ultrasound where they measure EVERYTHING on the baby to make sure she's developing as she should and thankfully so far she is perfect! That appointment also provided us with a DVD of the complete ultrasound examination and a 4D photo of our little peanut, which brought me to tears.

Yesterday 6/30, Bill & I went for a standard OB appointment which was pretty routine. They took all my vitals and the doctor asked me some questions and we reschedule a follow-up in 4 weeks. While I was there they figured they would squeeze me in for a cervix check. Bill left for home while I went to finish with my ultrasound. I wasn't in the room 2 minutes with the ultrasound tech taking measurements when she asked what I did for work. I proudly told her I did outside sales. She softy responded, "your life's about to change". My cervix length had dramatically decreased in size over the past 5 days and now was being effected by pressure. She went to get the doctor who promptly arrived in the room with "the note". This is when I started crying; I was being released from work immediately and instructed to go home, lay down and do nothing else.

Today, Tuesday 7/1, my perinatal doctors are meeting to discuss what to do next, as well as calling my California gyno-oncologist and discussing placing a cervical cerclage. (In case you don't know what that is... http://americanpregnancy.org/pregnancycomplications/cervicalcerclage.html) I'm scheduled to return to the office on Wednesday 7/2 for another cervical ultrasound and a potential surgery on Thursday.

At this point I don't have a lot of details other than the "little peanut" I've become SO attached to via weekly ultrasounds and daily kicks is in jeopardy. I'm scared and all I can do is what I hate most...lay around on bed rest. (P.S. We'll take all the prayers you can round up right now.)
