A Very Sad Day

This year I had a very sad Thanksgiving. Although I do have much to be thankful for none the less. I took Derrik and Kamryn to Eagar this year while Doug stayed home with Sadie. She was still not feeling well. He went to his mom's house. We weren't together so that was sad but I felt like I needed to go home this year.

Then I find out that my friend Shelley has lost her battle with cancer. She was such a great person. What an example she is as a mother. She raised 8 kids effortlessly it seemed. She will be missed.

Then Doug calls me and tells me that his work has offered him a promotion. Being as the economy is crap we have decided to take it. It is in New Mexico. It is a much more stable job. They want him to be Air Product's Site Manager at the Intel in Rio Rancho, by Albuquerque. My heart is breaking as I think of it because I love it here so much. I truly feel like I have had a perfect life here. I love my neighbors and my ward and my school and my job and especially my friends. Everything. We don't know dates yet but we should find out Monday. I have cried all weekend and my head hurts. I have prayed about it and feel that The Lord wants us to go even though I don't want to. My kids are upset but are willing to give it a try. I have to be positive because I feel like we have no choice but it is probably the hardest thing I will have to do. I have to be thankful because there are so many who don't even have a job or have other problems that can't even compare. It just makes me so sad.

Don't talk to me about it to my face because it makes me cry. I don't want to cry anymore.

Cardioligy Update

Sadie went to the Pediatric Cardiologist Monday. She has a bad cold right now and being as they said if we didn't take her in then she would not be able to get in until Feb we took her even though she didn't feel well. Well when we got there she had a fever of 102 and she felt lousy. I feel bad that she has to go through all of this. All of the blood work she had done came back and was normal including blood sugar and vitamins.

The Dr's office was in a building by Phoenix Children's Hospital. When we walked into the office much to our surprise one of our neighbors were there with their son seeing the same Dr and right before us. Weird.
Sadie's EKG went well and everything read normal, which was good because I thought it would be abnormal do to the fever she had. He also said everything else looked good. He thought it could be something called Orthostatic Hypotension which is when you don't get enough fluids so it causes you to black out when you are standing up. I personally don't think that is it because it happened one time when she was just sitting there at her desk doing nothing. He couldn't really explain that one. He also said she should start to feel better soon. She felt fine before and after the episode. Not dizzy all the time or anyting. It would be nice if that were it because to fix it all you need to do is increase your water and salt intake. She will be drinking more water.

We now go to the Pediatric Neurologist next week. He wants an EEG before we see him.

A Parking Spot at The Dr's Office.

Today I feel like I need to get a permanent parking spot at the Dr.'s office. Again compared to others trials I feel like this is so small but it is happening in my families lives so I am going to document it for my book that I can't wait to print up in Jan. Anyways...

This morning I wake up to Sadie being very loud in the bathroom. It was 6am. She goes to violin early on Thursdays. The next thing I realize she is on my floor with no clothes on crying in a panic that she can't see. It was dark still and I was just coming out of a deep sleep. Just for background reasons Sadie has had this weird thing happen to her once when she was 5 and again at 9ish and then this Jan-during school, April-while mowing the lawn, and then today. She said she was in the shower and then she got a sick feeling in her tummy so she hurries and gets out. She is then picking up her stuff when she all of the sudden goes BLIND. She then fell into the tub and managed to crawl out and into my room. She couldn't see for at least a couple of minutes. The first time this happened is when she was 5 and it was very short like 30 seconds. Doug's mom was doing her hair and all the sudden she was screaming "I can't see! I can't see!" We did an EEG and it came back normal but we didn't get it done for almost 3 weeks after the fact. Then the other ones I just kept making up excuses on why it was happening. Maybe low blood sugar, or too hot, or just got up to fast. Today I couldn't do that again so I took her in to the Dr's. He is going to send her to a Neurologist and a Cardiologist. He said it could be her heart not firing right or in her brain. Doug's sister has Epilepsy so it could be that she has had a small seizer. We are going to try and get that EEG tomorrow to see if it was or not. It just depends on if we can get her in or not. She seems to be fine now and she went to school. She said she just feel like she has a little shock from the trauma.

I just wonder how come there seems to be so much bad news lately. I know The Lord has a plan for us and as I said in my talk on Sunday there are trial for various reasons. I just feel sad because of the numerous ones lately for everyone. It is like the world is coming to a screeching stop. It could always be worse I suppose no matter what your circumstances are.

Anyone know of a good kid Neurologist or Cardiologist?

Hunting Season is over

HURRAY!!!!! Doug had his last hunt and is done for now. He got his deer and it is all cut up and put into the freezer.

We made crockpot green chili and it was wonderful.

No wimps at our house. Doug and the kids ground up meat from his elk.

Sadie's First Violin Concert

Tonight was Sadie's first of many orchestra concerts. She did a great job. She has to get up early 3 times a week to be to practice at 6:50am. I can tell her sacrifice has been well worth the effort. I hope she enjoys it as much as I did.

Before the show started a lady sat down next to Kamryn. In pure Kamryn fashion Kamryn started a conversation with the lady instantly. It went like this.


Lady to Kamryn "How are you?"

Kamryn "I had pneumonia!"

Lady "Oh?"

Kamryn "I am better now."

Lady "I am glad you are feeling better."

Kamryn "My brother has it now."

Lady (as she is leaving) "We'll see you later."


That is one way to clear out seats. Doug and I laughed so hard. Kamryn didn't think anything of it. In fact she thought for some reason that she was the conductor and needed to go do her job.

We are one big happy Pneumonia Family

Talk about a long month! I know nothing compared to others trials but I am kinda tired. We found out that Derrik now has Pneumonia. He has been coughing for 3 weeks and has had this strange fever that would show it's self randomly for the last week. X-Rays confirmed it. Boy was Derrik different then Kamryn in the Dr.'s office. He hasn't been since he was 5 and then it was only for his shots. He has never even had his blood pressure taken. He was so excited about getting his blood drawn. He was smiling with wonder. They even had to poke him twice! The Dr. started him on antibiotics. Hopefully he will be like Sadie and not be allergic to them like Kamryn. He should be good to go by Sunday. Hopefully because Doug and I have to SPEAK in Sacrament!!! Crazy.

A Day of Canning

Recently I have renewed my love of canning. I don't know why I love doing it. I guess it is because of after all the work is done there is something to show for it. Not like cooking where all there is is dishes to show for when your all done. I love my grandparents (really they are Doug's but I love them as my own- I would even say they are my friends.) They taught me when I was first married and was cooped up with little kids and little money. It was an outlet for me. Today I canned Beef Stew with potatoes and carrots and onion. It doesn't look all that great but it sure tasted good tonight for dinner. I also canned chicken that I got on sale. Cheap, healthy, quick meals in a bottle. I was going to can pumpkin. I canned it once before but I guess you can't can just any pumpkin for cooking. They have to be pie pumpkins. I guess we will have to plant them for me do that next season.

Halloween 2008

I am not a huge fan of Halloween but I do love the time of year. I love that the weather is finally nice and that all my neighbors get together and enjoy each other's company. I do live in the best neighborhood on the planet.

Derrik went with the Shumways as a Blue Man. He made the costume up himself. He cut a squishy ball (Kamryn's ball- He is going to buy her another one) in half to make blue haif. Very creative.

Kamryn went with all the girls in the neighborhood as The Pink Panther (Sadie's from Science Camp). The eyeball just didn't have time to happen with her being sick. She was still cute.

Sadie had a tough decision to make this year as this was going to be her last year to trick or treat. I feel 12 is the last time before kids are too big and should let the little kids take over. However this year our ward was assigned Halloween night for the youth to go to the temple to do baptisms for the dead. She had never been. I am grateful she made the choice to do service and experience the temple. She enjoyed it very much and was glad she went.

She was able to be home in time to go out with her friends for 30 minutes.

Sadie was a Slumber Party Girl with Tori.

We had Seneca too. She was super cute as Strawberry Shortcake or Stawberry Cake Cake as she calls her. She got the hang of Trick or Teating real quick when she figured out that all she had to do was say Trick or Treat and stay there for along time and she would get lots of candy. She would repeat it over and over as she ran all the way to the next house. Then she would stand there as long as she could to get as much candy as they were willing to give her. Her bucket got so heavy but she would not let her mom carry it. She sure is cute.

Remembering an Icon

Please join me in remembering a great icon of the entertainment community. The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection and trauma complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71. Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin. Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs. Butterworth, Hungry Jack, the California Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Captain Crunch. The grave site was piled high with flours Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy and lovingly described Doughboy as a man who never knew how much he was kneaded. Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times he still was a crusty old man and was considered a roll model for millions. Doughboy is survived by his wife Play Dough, two children, John Dough and Jane Dough, plus they had one in the oven. He is also survived by his elderly father, Pop Tart. The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes.
