LDS Gems

A few months ago I was looking on LDS.org and came across this email subscription page. Maybe everyone already knows about this but if now I will share it with you. You can sign up for these "gems" and a couples times a week you get an email with a great quote from a church leader. They have some for singles adults, families, youth, church history, etc. I look forward to the emails coming because they are so good, uplifting and seem to be what I need to hear every time.

I'd rather be....

Vegas has been freezing cold lately! I can't really handle the cold at all and I'm sure the problem is that I don't know how to dress warm. I'm ready for winter to be over but until then I will imagine myself somewhere else. How about an overwater bungalow in Bora Bora?! I don't think it gets more perfect than this! Since this is not realistic right now, I'm heading down to California where it is 15 degrees warmer than here!

The Inspiring Death Perspective

In the last few months, I have thought a lot about death. No, I don't want to die, but I wonder what it would be like to know you were going to die. How differently would you see yourself, your life, the world? I imagine you would have the most clear perspective on life, appreciate all the little things, and not worry so much about the big things.

I love the idea of a person, at the end of his life, telling you everything he knows, what he has learned, what he regrets, what he wish he did more of, and what he wasted too much time on. Who wouldn't love that kind of insight? How different would we be? What wisdom would you share with the world if you knew it would be your last chance?

Recently,there was a speech given by a Professor, Randy Pausch, who was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer and given only a few months to live. He titled his talk "Last Lecture". The speech was so inspiring that he quickly became a media sensation all over the world. He was even on Oprah! After hearing all the hype, I watched his talk online and it was so moving! He had so many great life lessons to share. Here are a few of my favorite things he said that I LOVED!

- Brick walls are there for a reason: they let us prove how badly we want things and let us show our dedication; they are not to keep us out, but to stop the people who don't want it badly enough.

- Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want.

- Find the best in everybody; no matter how long you have to wait for them to show it.

- Be prepared: "luck" is where preparation meets opportunity.

- Don't complain just work harder.

- Be good at something, it makes you more valuable.

- Wait long enough and people will surprise and impress you. When you're angry with people, you haven't given them enough time.

I really want to see this movie for some reason. Maybe it's because it has actors from a few of my favorite shows, Dwight from "The Office" and Michael and George Michael from "Arrested Development." The movie has a different feel to it that I like and seems dry and quirky. I can't wait for it to open on December 25th! Here is a preview:

Weekends Rock!

I love having a great weekend! This was one of them. I had our ward Christmas party and talent show, a hawaiian party, saw "I Am Legend", went Christmas shopping and then ended it tonight with a cousins dinner. We had so much good food! I made roast and potatoes, Megan brought the best appetizers like homemade quiche, stuffed mushrooms, and this asparagus roll up thing, Jessica and Abby brought a salad and rolls, and Aaron and Celina brought cookies.

Then we played Apples to Apples (my favorite game lately). I didn't get very many pictures. It was a fun night. I love that even though I have so many cousins I am still close to them and they are some of my best friends.

Massage Heaven!!!

I LOVE massages! They are in my top 5 favorite things! I have always enjoyed them but didn't get them very often. A few years ago, I worked with a girl who was going to school for massage therapy and she practiced on me everyday. This is when my obsession began. I was so used to getting them that if a few days passed my body would begin to crave one. Sad I know!

For Christmas this year my sister, Megan, paid for me to get a massage. I couldn't ask for anything better! My back has been so achy and sore for the past few months and I've been dying to get one done. The girl Megan works with came over tonight to my house to massage Megan and me. I was in heaven for that hour. I still feel amazing! I can't believe the difference a massage makes. The girl even commented "Wow, you weren't kidding about your back. It was bad!" I'm sure I will have the best sleep of my life tonight!

Thanks Megan! She also brought me Cafe Rio. She is such a great, generous sister. I love her so much! She's been one of the few consistent things in my life and I can always count on her to be there. She would do anything for me. We have been through many hard times together and it makes our relationship closer each time. We are best friends but still fight all the time. I love that we can argue and then one minute later be laughing again. She is so funny and entertaining to be around! I can always get an honest opinion from her and I respect what she says. She is so beautiful and has the most gorgeous eyes! Megan is one of a kind and one of my favorite people!

World Cruise 2050

When I'm old, retired, and my kids have all grown, I want to take a world cruise! Imagine taking three to four months off to see the whole world and not have to worry about where you'll sleep or what you'll eat. You can sleep and wake up in a new country, get off to explore for a day or two and then come back to your little room on a beautiful ship awaiting the next port stop! Can you imagine 6 continents, 50 port stops, 30 different countries? There are so many different destinations and cruise lengths that your options are endless. I am getting so excited planning it out now! I can't wait for 50 more years. The only setback is the cost. Most of these cruises start at $30,000 each! It seems so worth it to me!

Life Is.......what??

I like to have a "Question of the Week" that I ask every one. This week the question is "Life is ________" and you have to fill in the blank. The last few months have been the most difficult of my life and I have found myself thinking deeply about life. I would answer my question with "hard". I don't want to seem like I have a negative outlook on life but I think it's mostly hard with great moments of joy that make it all worth it.

Black Friday

Every year, my Grandma Cope takes my sisters and me shopping the day after Thanksgiving. We spend the night at her house and then wake up at the crack of dawn to get to the mall when it opens. Although it's a hectic day with all the crowds, we always have so much fun! It's the only time that we can shop and not have to look at or worry about the price tags. After seven hours of shopping and creating a huge hole in Grandma's wallet, this was the end result. We love you Gran!

I don't have a camera anymore so I don't really have any pictures worth posting but here are a few taken lately with friends. I sometimes amaze myself with how ugly I can make my face!

Happy Music Only

I decided that 99% of my music is depressing. Well, not really depressing but slower and acoustic with sappy lyrics. When I am down or having a hard day and start listening to my Ipod, I notice my music doesn't help my mood to improve. I love this kind of music but need to balance it with more upbeat, happy songs. I started making a playlist and didn't get very far! "Faith" by Boy Least Likely To, is a song that makes me smile and puts me in a better mood when I hear it. What are some of your suggestions for happy music?

For the Love of Shoes

I like to go shopping but I would never call myself a shopper. I like clothes but wouldn't call myself trendy. I have my own low maintenance style which pretty much consists of anything that I fall in love with and have to have. I don't buy clothes unless I LOVE them. I have learned that when I do buy something that is just okay or was such a good deal, I don't wear it. I don't have that many clothes at one time because I am constantly going through and giving the ones I don't wear away. (My little sisters have SO many clothes! You're welcome!) My clothes don't have a long shelf life with me. When I buy a shirt I adore, I find any excuse I can to wear it everyday. I have realized that by doing this I get sick of my clothes much faster. Now I try to not wear my favorites as much so I can enjoy them longer.

Normally I don't like to buy pants or shoes because they are more expensive and I would rather have a few shirts instead. Lately I have been loving shoes and buying more and more. There is one pair that I have been wanting for a few months and trying to wait patiently for them so go on sale or for Christmas to come.


Also here are a pair of shoes I bought recently that are my favorite right now. The only problem is that the first few times I wear a new shoe I get blisters. Why are are all cute shoes painful to wear?


Speaking of shopping, my roommate Diana is the biggest bargain shopper and has the most unique style. I love this about her! We have been trying to furnish and decorate our condo for the last month but we both don't have too much extra money for that. Diana takes me to DI, Salvation Army, and a bunch of other thrift stores to find stuff. We got a dang cute table for $20, barstools for $5 each, a bookshelf for $10 and a lamp for $2. I never really went to these types of stores before so I'm really excited Diana introduced me to them! Yes, most of the stuff there is junk but we have been lucky to find some great things! I will post pictures as soon as I can.

Snack of the Month

I love to snack especially salty ones. My two sisters introduced me to Stacy's Pita Chips this summer but I couldn't find them again anywhere and forgot about them. Lately they have been everywhere! I love them and eat them by the bag. The "parmesean garlic and herb" are my favorite but the "bare naked" or "pesto and sundried tomato" are also very good! I recommend trying them. They are good to use for dips since they are thicker. I love to cover them in cream cheese too!

Who do I look like?

Not a day goes by without someone asking me, "Do you know who you look like?" I am serious when I say everyday I am asked this question. (Today it happened twice!) Most of the people asking are people I have never met. My roommates in Provo noticed how much this happened when we lived together. I think this is very funny because I always wonder what people think when they see me so I get excited to hear their responses. There are a few names that come up repeatedly but mostly it is randomness. Usually it's a compliment!

I also have found that I look like whoever I am friends with. Maybe when you hang around or live with girls long enough you start looking alike. My roommate, Ashley, and I got this EVERY TIME we went out together. People would stop us to ask if we were sisters. We never really saw the resemblance except for our long brown hair. Is this normal? I finally came to the conclusion that I look like everyone!

Second attempt will be a charm!

Yes, here I am starting another a blog. I love blogs. I have kept a list for the last six months on topics I want to post about. Myspace and Facebook have been getting really old and lame lately so I figure the next step is to have a blog. It feels like a more mature, grown up thing to do. I am excited to get started again!

I am back in Las Vegas. People keep saying "welcome home" and I really do feel like I am home. I love it here! I love driving over the hill and seeing Vegas for the first time, especially at night. This still makes me excited every time. I live with one of my best friends, who also happens to be one of the funniest girls. Our first week in our new condo has consisted of out of control laughing and ugly dancing. These are two of my favorite things to do! I got a job working for a doctor as a medical assistant and start on Monday. Life seems to be working out bit by bit.

I like to look at blogs especially when they have pictures or something funny to look at. So for today I have a video my friend Ashley showed me. I have watched it so many times and it keeps getting funnier! Make sure you can hear it because the people's laughing makes me laugh even harder. I love funny things! Enjoy!
