These are the moments

I had one of those reflective moments today. I was going to do a workout video during Douglas' nap so I laid him in his crib and got dressed. Before starting the video I peeked my head into his room to check on him. He was wide awake staring at the mobile, looking so cute, so I walked over. I ran my fingers up his tummy and "got his nose" and he started smiling and opening his mouth like he wanted to talk. His reaction made me so happy that I picked him up and sat on the couch w/ him. I proceeded to make faces and coo at him and he smiled and gave me some new sounds. I was so happy that I postponed my workout to spend these few precious moments with him. It made me so thankful that I'm not working and get to stay home with him. He is so precious and I couldn't imagine missing these sweet tender moments.

As of this past Sunday I can offically say that Douglas is giving us social smiles! His best time is after I've fed him and I've laid him on his play gym and talk to him. He likes when I laugh, stick out my tongue, and pinch (lightly of course) his lower lip. He coos a little more but still not that much. I'm just excited that it's starting. He absolutely melts my heart when he smiles! Here's a video of me playing with him. Look closely for his smiles. Notice how much more he's moving since even last weeks' video. Also, his latest thing is putting things in his mouth. He can't grab anything yet but he waves his arm over to push his shirts and stuff in this mouth.



While trying to get more smiles later in the day I caught him trying to poop. This just goes to show my sick sense of humor, posting my baby in the act. I can't help it, I think his grunts are funny.

2 months

Douglas went to the doctor this last Thursday for his two month checkup. He weighs 12lbs 4 oz (75%) and is 23 3/4" long (75-90%). He was a champion during the shots! As soon as I picked him up his cry turned to a whimper and quickly disappeared. I was very happy that it wasn't a huge ordeal.

Today Douglas is 9 weeks old and I've been waiting for 3 weeks to see a social smile. He smiles but it is either in a sleepy state or accompanied with gas. Yesterday and even today I got smiles so I listened for the gas but nothing. However, when I did the things again that I thought might have caused the smiles I got nothing. Baby center said at 6 weeks to expect them any day and I haven't really gotten anything. I've also been waiting for him to start cooing, etc. He makes sounds and does some coos but I remember when my brother was visiting with his 2month old that she was cooing up a storm when spoken to. My mom said that boys are usually late developers. So, for all of you with boys, when did they start the obvious social smiles and cooing like crazy?

This is just a random video I took with my camera to send to Travis, who is out of town. I thought since I have it why not share it. It's not much, but what can you expect from this age? Actually, it makes me wonder why we talk to babies this way. We sound ridiculous, and he doesn't look very amused!! :-)

Douglas galore!!

I've decided to combine Christmas and blessing pictures in this little slideshow. Douglas was blessed in church this last Sunday. It was wonderful!

My mother-in-law made his blessing outfit and my mom crocheted the white blanket so overall Douglas was decked out. And I have to say that he is sooooo handsome!

We've been in this house since August and haven't posted any pictures of it. It's a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom. They aren't the best pictures but you get the idea. Here they are.

I've been postponing updating the blog until after Douglas gets blessed, which is this Sunday. I'll post pictures from Christmas then too. Travis' parents are in town this week so I haven't gotten to the computer much. I'm going through withdrawls. :-) I hope everyone had a great holiday and I'll post more early next week.
