The Unrein Update

The Unrein household has added two more to our family of three. We now have two lovely parakeets. We went to the pet store on Friday night with Matt and Holly and somehow ended up looking at the birds. We enjoy having a pet around the house, but a dog proved to be too much for both our busy schedules and my husbands patience. To make a long story short, we went back into Salt Lake on Saturday with our neighbors and bought two birds. They have been fun to have. They already know how to poop on the newspaper, if we cover their cage with a blanket at night, they do not make a sound until we uncover the cage in the morning and Jax now has a permanent babysitter for the next 10-15 years. Yesterday, he pulled up his little recliner, grabbed a few of his books and read to the birds for about an hour. It was awesome! They are beginning to let us hold them now too. That is Jaxons favorite part. I have to watch him though because nine times out of ten if I can not find him, he is in front of the cage with the door wide open and both his arms inside trying to get one of the birds to perch on his index finger.

Speaking of Jaxon, can you punish a child for saying a swear word if he told you he learned it from his dad? Or do you punish the dad? Hmmm! I can not tell you how many times a day I nag my husband to watch his language. I had no idea that those adjectives I learned in 9th grade English, I would never need. I was thinking that Chemistry or PE would've fit more into that category. So, its official, besides the birds, I have the cleanest mouth in our home and I can not honestly say that I did not see this day coming!

I was shocked and pleased to learn that last Monday when my husband called me at work wondering if I had seen the keys to his work truck, he found them by himself. I am also pleased and extremely shocked that the truck was not stolen out of our driveway. You see, the keys were still in the ignition of the $50,000.00 truck that was packed with around $45,000.00 of inventory. Ah, the sweet town of Tooele. I love my honest neighbors!

Paranoid?

When we potty trained the Jax-Man a few months ago, it was so easy. We waited until he was ready instead of trying to make him go when I was ready and it worked really well for us. He was successfully potty trained in less than a day. As of today, he has wet his pants six times at the babysitters house. (He has never wet his pants at home.) The other night we were over at Mike & Kellis house and he went to the bathroom three times in an hour.

He also begs for something to drink constantly. It is always "Mom, I firsty." He can drink a whole bug juice in two minutes flat. Given, his mom can do the same with her 44 oz refill, but he is still three years old. Then, he will wait like five minutes and tell me his is "firsty" again.

Another thing he does lately is ask for food. He always wants to eat. He is constantly in the fridge, pantry or candy cubbies, looking for his next treat. He always eats his dinner. I send him to the babysitter with a yogurt for breakfast and a peanut butter sandwich, string cheese and a fruit snack for lunch. Usually, I sneak a little treat in his bag too. It never fails though, he is always hungry still.

This is where my paranoia sets in. I can't help but remember twenty years ago when I was eight. I remember waking up each morning in a puddle of urine and being so worried that I would never have a sleepover again. I remember the feeling of never being able to satisfy my thirst. My mouth was always dry and chalky. I would drink and drink and drink and drink, which in turn would cause me visit the bathroom more than usual. I remember always being hungry and wanting to eat all day. I also remember the day I was taken to doctor to see what was wrong and having been sent directly to Primary Childrens Medical Center because my blood sugar was in the 800's. I remember being sat on and held down so that my mom, dad and neighbors could give me an insulin shot. I remember sneaking a bottle of Butterscotch Ice Cream topping into my room and hiding it under my bed. I remember my mom waking my whole family up sporatically to test their blood sugar in the middle of the night to calm her worst fears.

I snuck into Jaxons room this morning at 5:30 to test his blood sugar. He woke up the minute I poked his finger and smeared blood all over the bed sheet. I did not get the test done, but I will try again tonight!

Shout Out!

This is a shout out to Mama Tye. Because of her, Jaxon was able to keep with tradition and color Easter Eggs this year. Don't get me wrong, I bought the official egg coloring kit from Wally World, boiled the eggs and even layed out the newspaper on the kitchen table, however the hard boiled eggs are still sitting in my fridge uncolored. My husband attempted to eat four of them but refused and threw them in the disposal after he could not break the shell without demolishing the egg. He let me know that he will teach me how to properly cook eggs sometime in the near future. Yipee!

Mom Email

I got this email from one of my cousins and I thought that it was pretty cute. Lately, I feel like I am not cut out for the title of "MOM," so these cute kids made me smile a little. Their answers remind me of my all time favorite church movie, From The Mouth Of Babes.

WHY GOD MADE MOMS
Answers given by 2nd grade school children to the following questions:

Why did God make mothers?
1. She's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.
2. Mostly to clean the house.
3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.

How did God make mothers?
1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.
3. God made my Mom just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts.

What ingredients are mothers made of?
1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.
2. They had to get their start from men's bones. Then they mostly use string, I think.

Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom?
1. We're related.
2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's moms like me.

What kind of little girl was your mom?
1. My Mom has always been my mom and none of that other stuff.
2. I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.
3. They say she used to be nice.

What did mom need to know about dad before she married him?
1 . His last name.
2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer?
3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?

Why did your mom marry your dad?
1. My dad makes the best spaghetti in the world. And my Mom eats a lot.
2. She got too old to do anything else with him.
3. My grandma says that Mom didn't have her thinking cap on.

Who's the boss at your house?
1. Mom doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because dad's such a goof ball.
2. Mom. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.
3. I guess Mom is, but only because she has a lot more to do than dad.

What's the difference between moms & dads?
1. Moms work at work and work at home and dads just go to work at work.
2. Moms know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.
3. Dads are taller &stronger, but moms have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you want to sleep over at your friend's.
4. Moms have magic; they make you feel better without medicine.

What does your mom do in her spare time?
1. Mothers don't do spare time.
2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.

What would it take to make your mom perfect?
1. On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of plastic surgery.
2. Dye it. You know her hair. I'd dye it, maybe blue.

If you could change one thing about your mom, what would it be?
1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of that.
2. I'd make my mom smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.
3. I would like for her to get rid of those invisible eyes on the back of her head.

Thanks Katie!

Remind Me To Get More Sleep

Have you ever forgot a very important item of your wardrobe? I can always tell when I have not had enough sleep because I forget very important aspects of my outfit. In junior high, I was changing into my PE clothes when I realized that I had not put on my bra that morning. What made the situation horrible was that all I had to wear was a white T-shirt and we were supposed to run the mile that day. Thinking about it still makes my stomach ache! The next time I recall having a wardrobe malfunction was when I was employed at the RadioShack Service Center. I showed up to work one day only to realize half way through that I had conviently placed a Nike sneaker on my left foot and a Sketchers tennie on the right. Oh yeah, that was a smooth move. Today is the newest addition to my list. This one is not nearly as noticeable if you are a straight man, however, to all women and those who are currently gender confused, it is a huge fashion faux pas and I am sorry. I am wearing the comfiest BROWN shoes on the planet with a really warm BLACK zip up jacket. That is right folks BLACK and BROWN. I know that this is in direct connection to the fact that I was up until midnight with a scared toddler and rudely awaken at three this morning by a pack of mean, ravenous dogs and one very upset husband (who is oddly enough such a light sleeper that he cannot sleep through anything, except a baby needing a bottle or a diaper change). I need a long nap and a new jacket!
In other news.....Jaxon and I put on quite the concert last night while jumping on my bed. We wore wigs and sang music from the Goofy Movie at the top of our lungs while Darrel was attempting to fix the garage door. The two of us together are rather entertaining if I do say so myself!

Is There Something In The Water?

Why is everyone pregnant? What is the secret?

**For those of you who may take this question seriously, I know that is how it works....usually!**

America's Best Entertainment

My dad, mom, Jaxon and I spent the weekend in Heber. It was nice to sit back, relax, shop and munch all weekend. The best part of the weekend however was when I was introduced to "Randy Jackson Presents America's Best Dance Crew." I caught a rebroadcast of episode 5. The heavens must know me pretty well, because it contained two of my favorite things......DANCING and MICHAEL JACKSON! Can we all say "Awesome!"
Here are a few of my favorite dances:

You can dance on roller skates? I can barely skate on them!

I have come to the conclusion that I should really get with the times and invest on Cable TV! There is such good, wholesome and quality entertainment on those extra channels!!

Su-Bie Or Not Su-Bie

The awe inspiring, legendary, 1993 Subaru Legacy, which has been my commuter car, has officially gone on strike. This strike will end only when and if I can get a duplicate key made to unlock the door. The one I have has snapped in half. Negotiations are under way with a locksmith. Until then, take care little one.
