WTF Friday

My dad told me to read this article and I am glad I did. I am using this not because I thought "WTF" when I read it, but because I was pretty sure that is what the robber thought when the family jewels were suddenly under attack! I'm not sure what consternation means (and, frankly, don't care enough to look it up), but I assume it refers to something mightily painful. For your pleasure, I will make my favorite parts of the article bold. I LOVE IT!

Victim fights off would-be robber
February 27th, 2009 @ 8:20am

SALT LAKE CITY-- A victim fought back and thwarted a robbery attempt near Westminster College.

Salt Lake City police say a man was walking just outside the school's campus at 1300 East and 1840 South around 3 a.m. Friday when a man with a box cutter jumped out of some trees.

He slashed the victim's coat and demanded he give him his wallet. The victim reacted quickly.

"(The victim) was wearing some sizable boots and actually kicked the suspect in the groin, which causes some consternation to our suspect. He dropped the box cutter and ran off," said Lt. James Tracy of the Salt Lake City Police Department.

Police used dogs to try to look for the suspect but had no luck.

The victim was not hurt.

Mr. Jax

About a month ago, I was talking to one of my sweet cousins. We were discussing having children. She told me that she was nervous to start having kids because everytime she asks someone about their children, they tell her it is harder than they thought it would be and it changes your whole life. She told me that she just wanted someone to tell her that they love it and that they would not trade it for the world.
Yesterday, our YW lesson was on homemaking and housekeeping. There was a story linked to the lesson about a woman who asked her class what their goals were and not one of them said, "To be a mom!" It broke my heart.
So, YW of the Droubay Ward and cute N.T., here is why I love being a mom and can't wait until it is my turn for another one.....

Every morning as I pull a drowsy Jaxon out of bed, and bundle him up, to take him to the babysitters, he squeezes me tight and falls alseep on my shoulder. I would not trade it for the world. It helps me get through the long work day.

Jaxon brings the spirit into our home. After church yesterday, he told me all about Satan and how we have to build up a wall so he can not get to us. He also informed me that Satan is Jesus' bad brother. Every night when I tuck Jaxon into bed, he tells me that he misses Jesus and wants to go live with him again. It melts my heart. There is never a night when he forgets to say his prayers. He has such a strong spirit and gives our house the little extra umph that we usually need.

On Saturday, Darrel and I had an argument. I started crying while talking on the phone to him. Jax came over to me and put his arm around me. After I hung up with Darrel, I went to my room and layed down for a minute. Jaxon came in about three minutes later with two stuffed animals, one for me and one for him, and laid right beside me until I felt better. Then he whispered, "I love you, Mom!"

He loves to help. I was working on a vinyl order Saturday when I heard the sink running in the kitchen. I asked him what he was doing and he said, "I am helping you do the dishes, Mom." He loves to wipe the dust off of the TV, shelves, cabinets, counters, floor, books, etc. and loves to do the laundry. Nine times out of ten, he is standing right beside me, adding ingredients to our dinner cooking on the stove. When I am worn out and ready to fall over, he is there as my personal assistant ready to tackle the jobs I despise the most.

When I enter the door at Kelli's to pick him after a long day at the office, as soon as hears me, he runs toward me, jumps into my arms and gives me the biggest, tightest hug you could ever imagine.

He keeps me laughing. He is always trying to make up his own silly jokes. He loves to put on wigs and jump on the bed with me. His favorite activity is to turn up the music and dance his little heart out. He thinks fart-kisses are the bees knees and he loves to do his own special "sweet moves" when he sword fights.

I have to admit, there is a little truth in what she has heard. Kids are hard. The constant "Mom" over and over again, can really get to you somedays. But, those days are few and far in between. When I look back at all the things I have done in my life, Jaxon is my greatest achievement. He keeps me sane, he puts a smile on my face and a tear in my eye. If I could do it all again, I would in a heartbeat. He is my little miracle!

WTF Friday

Did you know that during a typical Utah winter it is entirely possible to grow stalagmites in your front yard? I, luckily, have the picture to prove it. I hope no one slips on the ice around this sidewalk. It would sure hurt to be the recipient of this icy stalagmite enima!

Blah, Blah, Blahg!

I have nothing to say. I am worn out, tired and dreary. I think I am in desperate need of a real vacation, like to Hawaii, Disneyland or DC, not Montrose, Colorado. I would like to sleep for a week and read a few books for a month. Then, maybe I can get back to functioning correctly. This is my Blah, Blah, Blahg!

What A Week I'm Having

It all started on Monday at work. Darrel sent me a text message saying that his grandpa had died that morning. I picked up the phone and called him immediately. He did not answer so I called his mom at work and she answered in tears. He was still alive, but had pulled his oxygen out during the night and was in a coma like state. They did not expect him to live much longer because he had previously stated he did not want to be revived, hooked up to life support or taken to a hospital. We decided that we were going to head to Colorado Tuesday morning to see if we could say goodbye. At two o'clock that afternoon, we got the call. He had died. We were on the road right after.
We spent Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in Montrose going through seventy five years of paperwork, collectibles, and personal belongings. It was a sad, memorable, empty, yet hilarious time for everyone. Darrel had his surgery scheduled for Friday morning at seven, so we had to leave on Thursday night, the night before the funeral. We were very sad to miss it, but are very grateful to have been able to pay our respects to him and say goodbye at the family viewing.
I will always remember Grandpa Clarence for his off the wall humor. For the time he mooned me when they were taking a family picture and for the love he had for his sweet wife Kathy who died two years ago of cancer. We will miss him.

We are now in Heber at the cabin trying to get in a little rest and relaxation before we begin another week. Darrel had his gallbladder removed on Friday morning and is so sore. He is recouperating fine, but longs to be outside on the snowmobiles. He has had a rough week and we hope this the end of bad luck for us for a while!
