*i recently read an article about how riding down a slide on a parent's lap can be dangerous for toddlers and can result in broken legs (this photo was taken before i read that article). i guess we'll have to lay off the slides until Ruby can ride on her own. 

**i tried cutting Ruby's hair by myself a while ago and it didn't turn out well. after some debating, we decided to have the professionals clean it up a bit. if you think Roo looks terrified in this picture, it's because she was. we took her to a special kids' hair salon where they had sesame street, bubbles, and the whole nine yards. despite how great the hairdresser was, there were some serious tears. 

"nobody touches my hair but my mamaaaaaa!"

this week

downs:
-Bubbs learning to hide my phone around the house (under the couch, tucked in a kitchen drawer, in the heating vent, etc.) the fact that my phone is on silent 90% of the time doesn't help
-temper tantrums getting more and more common
-driving half an hour to the only fabric store near our town and finding out they're being closed down. i showed up to get the finishing touches for the quilt i've been working on and they were selling off the last of their scraps. all that was left were those awful fleeces with paw prints or unpopular cartoon characters on them. quilts don't really need binding, right?
-realizing we're moving so so soon! and i'll really miss it here! and what a bummer!

ups:
-chocolate chip cookies.
-compliments from strangers. i spend all of my time with a toddler who hardly speaks. a kind word from someone other than my husband (who is required to tell me i'm awesome) is like winning the lottery.
-sesame street parodies
-realizing we're moving so so soon! and we'll see our friends and family again! and cafe rio!
-every time Roo plays with her dolls she gives them big hugs and kisses and says "aaaawwww"- because that's what i say when i see her loving her bee-bees. my kid is cute, guys.
-being elmo. that kevin clash. so cool.
-seeing Tyler's face light up when he talked about how much the boys enjoyed the young men's activity he planned for them.
-Ruby learning to help clean up. you better believe i'm going to encourage this new interest!

it's been a good week.

summertime rites of passage

I know it's still early to be talking about summer, but this weather has us fooled. we've been outside trying to soak in as much sun as possible. we haven't quite pulled out the kiddie pool, sprinklers, and popsicles yet, but there's still time!

this week

downs:
-sleeping. lack of it. Ruby has been having troubles and i'm not sure why (i'm thinking tooth #7). i just hope it passes soon.
-being volunteered to do something without my knowledge or approval... ahem...
-missing another bijou market. then finding out that the next beehive bazaar is going on during our 3-day drive home and will be over by the time we get there. boo.
-Ruby's hunger strike continues. vegetables, grains, fruits, cheeses, or proteins? no, thanks. cheddar bunnies and graham crackers? ok... unless i'm not in the mood.
-missing another birthday in utah for one of Roo's buddies. happy birthday baby J! we miss you!

ups:
-watching Roo start playing pretend. she moves her dolls and stuffed animals around and makes them interact with each other. it's kind of the most adorable thing.*
-the trees in full bloom. so so pretty.
-this growing vocabulary:

-the way the hubs makes me laugh until i can't breathe.
-Little Miss learning how to blow kisses.
-my sister going to the bijou market and being my personal shopper for the day. it's nice knowing that my doppelganger is scoring all the best stuff for me.
-the look on Ruby's face when she's on the swings.

pure joy.

dandelion-picker

over the last week our neighborhood has become completely overrun with dandelions. i'm sure it's a complete nightmare for the landscapers, but Ruby loves it!

we went on a walk yesterday and Roo went nuts for them. she ran around picking as many as she could and then would come show us her collection. 

we kept saying, "oooh, Ruby! wow! look at the pretty flowers!"

 so what if they're weeds. it made no difference to her.

fun with photoshop

my awesome sister got me photoshop for my birthday/christmas this year. best gift ever! i've been having so much fun learning how to edit and do fun tricks with my photos. i used this tutorial to learn how to make an animated gif! they're a little sloppy and i definitely didn't use a tripod, but i still like the way they turned out. 

thank you, dawnica! you're so my favorite sister.
