OK, whoever the prankster is, you can stop messing with me now and send me some good vibes. I am on my last nerve and can't really handle much more.
I went to try and get my x-rays done at lunch. They were swamped and wouldn't be able to see me in time, so I stopped at Subway to 'eat right'.
When I got out, my car wouldn't start.
A cab ride later, here I am, back at work, while my car sits in a Mac's/Subway parking lot, and I frantically call around trying to find a towing company that will take my FUCKING CAR to the shop so they can fix it and have me bend over while they feed me the charges.
I am not a happy camper right now.

When it rains, it pours
I've been pretty good at handling all that life has thrown at me over the past few months...crazy work schedule, no social life as a result, car problems. I've had a few minor meltdowns, but I've managed to power through it all with a smile on my face (for the most part).
Friday was my first day off in nearly 3 months. I got up at around 9, decided to go for a run to start my day, and then complete my errands before a big night out - celebrating a very good friend's birthday, and watching the boy rock out.
Off I go on my run, feeling pretty good, realizing that I am finally back on a good exercise routine, and that I am going to be in not bad shape come bathing suit season. I go to cross the street to avoid some sketchy drunk (how does one survive being drunk that early in the morning?) and as I'm jumping on the curb, a sharp pain shoots through my left ankle and I go down, hard, scraping my knees and feeling like a complete and utter moron.
Turns out, I wasn't completely on the freaking curb. I hyperextended my ankle and rolled it at the same time. It hurt like a mother, and it took me a few minutes of sitting on the curb to get it together. I rolled it around a few times, the initial sting started to go away, I stood up on it, didn't feel so bad. So, what do I do? Did I turn around and go back the five blocks that I've come?(FIVE BLOCKS. THIS HAPPENED FIVE BLOCKS FROM HOME!!). Nope. I continued on with my jog. Then, I went and ran all of my errands. After about 4 hours of walking around, I finally got home, sat down, and my ankle promptly swelled up to the size of a grapefruit.
I took pretty good care of it all weekend, only stayed at the wedding we were invited to for a few hours as I was in so much pain, and all day Sunday I was on the couch, ankle wrapped and iced and elevated with the Boy taking care of me.
I went to my chiro/physio guy this morning (only because my mom and the Boy insisted, I am too stubborn to get it checked out on my own), and I am going for x-rays this afternoon. He thinks I may have torn my talofibular ligament. Super. Also, no running for about five weeks.
So I'm on crutches for the next 5-7 days, I can't run, my ankle hurts, and I feel like a lump because the extent of my exercise consists of hobbling to the bathroom at home, or to the printer at work. Other than that, it's all crutches, all the time, baby.
Oh, right, almost forgot...if one more person asks me what happened, they will promptly be at the receiving end of Death By Crutch. I'm just sayin'.

Malfunction Junction
First off, my phone goes haywire.
Now, it's my remote entry for my car. There are five buttons on my remote - the top one and the bottom one lock and unlock the doors respectively. The one on the right makes the alarm go off, the one on the left opens the trunk, and the one in the middle is the command start.
Except, today when I went to start my car, the trunk opened. I tried to unlock the door...the trunk opened.
Somehow, all five of the buttons on my remote now function towards the sole purpose of opening my trunk, and nothing else.
I guess it's not bad enough that I just spent $319 on Tuesday to get the goddamn power window fixed. I can only imagine what sort of electrical glitch has been tripped now.....and how much it's going to cost me.
Life is never boring around these parts.

Wrong number
I've been trying to avoid the purchase of a new cell phone for quite a few months now. My current cell is giving me some grief, but nothing that I couldn't handle. It drops a call here and there, keeps me from sending/receiving text messages at certain times of day, and sometimes will just shut off for no apparent reason. Yet, I've been trying to make an effort to save money for useful things, such as car repairs, down payment on a house, vacations, so I've put off the extra $150 expenditure for that snazzy little Razr.
Yet, this past week, my cute little Samsung has really outdone itself. During one of my uber boring training sessions, I perused my phonebook, checking out numbers that have been in there for years, I went through and deleted some that were obviously attained during drunken bar moments (naming a contact "Cute Boy" was a dead giveaway). No big deal, right?
Well, somehow, the deleting of said numbers caused all of my other numbers to change places. By this, I mean, the number that was previously linked to the correct name has switched places.
Example:
My friend L, I've had her number in my phone for a good 3 years. She calls me on Tuesday night, and it comes up on my caller ID as a completely different name, starting with a K.
I have also had K's number in my phone for a few years, so I know that I did not mix their numbers up.
I thought at first I was just tired after a 13 hour day, but after further investigation, I realize that when I deleted the other numbers, the stored names in my phone stayed in their correct postions, but the phone numbers associated to the names have all moved up a few positions, so that now, every name in my phone has an incorrect number.
It's really made for an interesting time, calling someone and crossing my fingers that it will actually be them on the other end. I'm pretty adept at memorizing numbers, so I've only screwed up a few times so far. I just fear that one day soon, I'll try to call one of my girlfriends and end up getting in touch with an ex-boyfriend instead. Not really something I want to try and explain, because what guy is going to believe that? "Yeah, so, hey, funny thing, my phone is all screwy and I really didn't mean to call you, I was trying to call someone else and I am not some crazy stalker that you used to date once upon a time and now I am going to hang up and bask in my own mortification"
Maybe spending the money on a new phone is not such a bad idea after all.

Memory jogger
I've had all these great ideas for humor-filled posts lately…the problem is, most of the time, they come to me when I'm running. My short term memory sucks donkey balls, so by the time I get back to the house, I have forgotten what my great post was going to be about. The only other time that I ever get great inspiration is right as I'm about to fall asleep…I could very easily lean over and scribble a few notes to help jar my memory in the morning, but that would lead to me thinking more about that particular idea, which would then cause less sleep, turning me into a cranky pants for the entire next day.
So, I need to somehow come up with a way to remember my thoughts, just long enough to make it home from my run, because seriously…even I don't want to read about stupid thank you notes and just how stressed out I am.
It can't be that hard...can it? Suggestions?

A 'thank you' is worth a thousand words
I have decided that I am going to start writing thank you notes once again. I used to write them all the time, after dinner parties, when a friend did me a nice favor...but then, getting all caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, I have kind of let that gesture fall to the wayside. (wayside - is that even a word? it sounds like one, but once I typed it, it didn't look right...ah, well, whatever)
Point being, I love the feeling of complete joy that I get when I read a heartfelt thank you note. It's like a big ol' warm hug when you hear that someone appreciated your efforts.
The Boy and I cooked dinner for his parents on Sunday night in honor of Father's Day...it wasn't a huge deal, just some maple-soy glazed salmon, some nice roasted asparagus, vidalia-parm potatoes and two bottles of a nice riesling. It took me about an hour to prep and cook the entire meal, and about half an hour to tidy up his place to parent-ready status.
We had a great dinner, an even greater visit, and then settled in to watch a movie with them before they went home. It was a very low-key, casual evening, and I enjoyed it immensely.
Anyways, last night, as the Boy was checking his e-mail, he let out a big "Awwwwww!" and then called me into his study to read an e-mail from his mom. The very first line was "Please share this with Miss Pickle" and then went on to thank us very much for having them over for dinner, that everything (both food & conversation) was wonderful, that they had a really great time, and that we should most definitely make a habit of it.
My heart swelled a tiny bit...not only because it was a very genuine thank you, but also due to the fact that they accept me into their lives so readily. It's a really great feeling to get so much respect from his parents. They are an amazing couple and I am so very blessed to have met them. Pretty cool to feel that way about the maybe-possibly-one-day-future-in-laws.
And let's just hope that she hasn't noticed my lack of thank you e-mails from all of the dinners that she's cooked...or for when I stayed with them in their vacation home for that weekend...dammit.

Crossroads
I'm at a real crossroads today. Not sure why. I'm walking around in a black funk, wondering if it's all worth it.
I hate days like this, when I wake up and am so miserable. Normally, I'm a happy-go-lucky optimist, so when these days arrive, they bring me down like no other. My girlfriends and I are going out tonight, to sip merlot and have one of those gritty heart to hearts, to try and figure out what the hell is wrong with us. I take solace in knowing that I am not the only one who is feeling this way as of late, but it does not explain what the cause of it is.
I am just tired of everything. It all seems like such a struggle right now - friendships, work, relationships, family. Literally everything.
I just came back from a 4 day long business trip...I was with a few of my favorite co-workers, we had good meetings, good dinners, good wine, good shopping, good weather. Yet, still I woke up this morning, after a surprisingly refreshing trip, and felt myself sliding down that dark pit.
I'm not sure what's causing it...I guess things just feel so stale right now. Work has been the same project for the past few months, the relationship has had more bumps than usual lately, and everything just seems blah, bland, boring, VERY vanilla.
Maybe I need to go away and treat myself to a REAL vacation. A different time zone, different climate, slushy drink, cabana boy type of vacation. Maybe I need to find myself a new hobby, something that piques my interest and keeps me involved. Maybe I need to just slap myself around a bit and realize that I am truly blessed in life and should just get over this bullshit.
I don't know.

OVERreaction
So, um, yeah...I've kind of been a bit of a stress case lately. Sometimes, when not so good things happen to me, I tend to really overreact...swear, get angry, freak out, cry. You know, the usual.
That was the case with my last post...which is why I deleted it, because I don't want to be reminded of what an ass I can be sometimes.
It all boils down to the fact that after me having one of my momentous oh-my-god-work-is-the-worst-place-ever-and-I-hate-everyone-and-everything days, the boy and I got into a wee bit of an argument. Over something so stupid, that I cannot even remember what it was. I think it was something to do with the fact that he was late to pick me up for work.
ANYWAYS...he said something along the lines of he didn't want to be in a relationship with me. Meaning that he wanted the normal, sane, calm girlfriend that I used to be in days past. NOT the one that freaks out over little things and continues to rant about them just because it feels oh so good to be able to take out my stress on a real life living breathing person.
Let's just say that I took this the wrong way. Granted, he should have been a little bit more cautious with his words and maybe said something along the lines of I don't like you when you're a lunatic...but I should have let him fully explain what he meant before I took it and ran with it - and became a blame-laying, blubbering, sobbing, ranting mess. But SERIOUSLY!!!!! I am PMS'ing, am under the gun in a huge way at work, and did not need to hear anything even remotely close to THAT. WTF was he thinking?
So after a lot of tears, a lot of talking, and even more reassuring words...I have returned to my somewhat saner self, with promises to work on the whole stress management issue and try to take a little break now and then.
Thank you for your kind words, blog friends, they meant a lot. :O)
Also, I think I may have scared him from saying anything else to me. Ever. Again.
