My weekend in colour.

I love all things Thai.

I love the country, I love the language even though I don't speak or read it, I am a huge fan of Thai rock music, and I love Thai people and their culture. I also love their rich history, intriguing politics and society. But most of all, oh my god - I ADORE Thai food.

So, when my foodie mother told me about this tiny "authentic" Thai eatery along Bencoolen Street (in Sunshine Plaza to be more precise), I was more than happy to give it a try, after being previously disappointed with many well-known but substandard local Thai restaurants which I shall not name here. :D

It was slightly past 3 in the afternoon when we arrived, so there were practically no other customers. But don't let the lack of activity and simple decor fool you - the little eatery had a rather extensive menu at very affordable prices (set lunch and set dinner at SGD $6.50 and $7.50 respectively, inclusive of drink, soup and dessert!!!!!!). I wasted no time and ordered my all-time Thai favourite - fried beef kway teow.

Okay, to be fair, I will not say that it was "mouth orgasm" or the best beef kway teow I ever had (I'm SURE there are better ones in Thailand itself), but in consideration that it was so cheap and tasted pretty decent, apart from the strange 'beefy' taste of the - duh, beef (not the first time it's happened to my beef when I eat out, made me wonder if there was something wrong with our beef imports?!?!)... the mother and I thought it was worth every single cent. I'll definitely go back sometime to try out my other favourites - Thai green curry chicken, stir-fried chicken with cashew nut, stir-fried whatevers with basil leaves, etc. and etc. and etc. :)

If you're in the area sometime (for example, when you go shopping at SL Square, hahaha) with not a lot of time/money for a meal to fill your tummy, give Aroy-dee (it means 'delicious' in Thai) at Sunshine Plaza a go. You have to really keep your eyes open for it though, as it is very easy to miss (in fact, it hardly looks like a cafe/eatery from the outside). I suspect it is a relatively new place because it doesn't even have a website and no one has written reviews about it yet.

I'm still feeling happy from lunch this afternoon, and also with the fact that I finally found a decent place in Singapore that serves my favourite Thai food at affordable prices.

Hmm, or maybe I am just easily satisfied when it comes to food, as always. :P
