A Little Story About a Boy Named Ashton, and His Glasses

I thought I would take a break from the Halloween posting to tell a little story about my day with my son yesterday.....

I was out shopping when I got a call from Ashton from school. He told me he lost his glasses on the playground. I told him I wasn't sure what he wanted me to do about it, but that he needs to do everything he can to find them, and to see if his teacher would help him, or send a friend with him to the playground to search. I decided to head over to the school anyway to see what I could do, because these glasses weren't cheap. I went to the school and first stopped by the office. The office assistant told me that the recess aid had been out there searching on the playground for a long time with no luck. I headed out to look on the playground too, and I saw Ashton's teacher with his whole class heading out there to search also. Ashton's teacher, Ms. Cummings, had all of the kids searching and digging in the rocks. They had no luck, and left to go back into the school while Ashton and I kept searching. I kept asking Ashton the story of how he lost them - he told me he had been swinging on the swing with his glasses on, and jumped off and his glasses went flying. I asked him if he was sure he even had them on and didn't leave them somewhere else, but he insisted he had them on. It also came out that his friend had told Ashton he found them and buried them so they would be safe. At this point I knew it was like finding a needle in a haystack, so Ashton and I headed back into the school. I talked to one of the recess aids who asked if we found them, and she told me she had the kid who said he buried them search for a long time but he couldn't find them. Then I saw Ms. Cummings and told her about the kid who claimed to bury them, and she said she would have a talk with him. I headed home, frustrated.

I was home for maybe 10 minutes when I got a call from Ashton. He told me he found his glasses. Sitting on his desk.

Oh that little stinker of mine! I guess the kids hadn't been in their classroom for awhile - Ashton noticed them missing at lunch recess, then went to lunch, then they had computers, and then the library. He's still convinced they fell off on recess and just somehow appeared on his desk.....who knows. They looked way too clean to have ever been on the ground at the playground though. I just hope the kid who said he buried them didn't get in too much trouble - why he said that I will never know!

I felt so bad and embarrassed, yet so appreciative of all of the people at the school who took so much time out of their day to help find them, so I wanted to do a little something for them.

These are Swedish Fish for all of the kids in Ashton's class for helping look for his glasses:
And these are for Ashton's teacher, the recess aid who searched for them forever, and the office assistant who Ashton kept needing to have call me tons of times while he was panicking!
So that was my excitement for the day. It's always something with that little boy of mine. It keeps life interesting, that's for sure, and somehow, after the frustration has gone away, it turns into kind of a funny story. Someday, I think I'm going to write a book!!

hallloween FUN part THREE!

We have decided that October and Halloween festivities is way busier for us than Christmas nowadays, but we honestly love every minute of it! Last week was the craziest - I think we had something every day! At school the kids had what they call "Red Ribbon Week" which is to promote and celebrate saying no to drugs. Every day is a different theme and the kids get to dress up, so basically every day last week was Halloween for the kids!

Tuesday, Day 1: Crazy Hair Day
Wednesday, Day 2: Western Wear Day
Thursday, Day 3: Rockstar Day
(Brayden had to sleep in curlers for her Shirley Temple costume to wear that night, so the ringlets kind of took away from the rocker look, but it's the best we could do! Her look confused some people at school! Ha ha!)
Friday, Day 4: Wear All Red Day
Being a HUGE BYU fan, Mike doesn't allow much red in our house, and wasn't loving the idea of our kids wearing all red to school, plus he knew that meant lots of kids wearing a lot of Ute gear, so he wanted to make sure our kids made it clear, even in red, what team we are on! :)
After school Thursday, in the process of getting the kids ready for our ward Halloween party, Brayden had a little fun trying to scare us with these cut-outs we had on one of our pumpkins.....pretty creepy, even with ringlets & a curler!!
It was nice having the ward party to get dressed up for, since Halloween day is always too crazy, and we actually had time to have a little photo shoot. Even though the kids never do what I tell them to while taking pictures, they are such goofballs and I always end up loving what I end up with! They both LOVE to ham it up for the camera!

Alfalfa
Shirley Temple
Ashton remembered this real pic he'd seen of Alfalfa when taking pics & tried to copy the pose! Yeah, I think Ashton could be in a modern remake of "The Little Rascals" for sure! Ha ha!
Mike and I wanted to save our real costumes for the neighborhood party we had Saturday, so we came up with last minute costumes the night before the ward party. I usually come up with the costumes for the whole family, including Mike, but let him decide what he would be for the ward party. He came out of the bathroom looking like this.....

It's Pat!!!
Our kids spent most of the time at the ward party doing the cake (candy) walk!
They won lots of candy! I think I stole this one from Brayden later.....
Saturday was our annual neighborhood party! I made these eyeball devilled eggs for the party, with lots of help from Brayden - she actually decorated every single one as I cut the pieces of pepper for the veins!
Charlie Chaplin and Betty Boop
So much fun! Thanks to the Tews for hosting!!
Oh, and where were our kids during the party?
With this guy.....
and they got to have a slumber party at Grandma and Grandpa's! :)
One last Halloween post to come!
